I missed it on Monday evening, but am watching the rebroadcast today.
#6:
Jake Short (Minny) vs. TJ Ruschell (Wisky) @ 157
Short was ranked #9 (believe that's InterMat), while Ruschell was unranked. Minny with unusual unis for the dual. 2-2 heading into the 3rd. Short with a TD with 25 sec left, and Ruschell with a quick esc. A stall point against Short for going off the mat (he already had a warning from passivity when on bottom in the 2nd) ties it up. Ruschell had riding time, so he gets the upset, 5-4
#5
#12 Gulibon vs. #6 Anthony Ashnault (Rutgers) @ 141
You should know the final score of the match, so no commentary from me. Scratch that ... Jimmy was a little sloppy in giving up the TD along the edge in the 1st period. Ashnault is tough, but depressing to see Jimmy ridden out after the TD in the 1st. Fricking telephone call that I had to take, so I missed the 2nd period. Jimmy has 0:43 in RT, so he must have ridden out in the 2nd. 1-4 heading into the 3rd. Stalemate with 23 sec left. Jimmy was in deep, but Ashnault got the ankle. Stall point on Ashnault with under 10 sec left, but Jimmy needed a TD and couldn't get it. 2-4 loss for Jimmy
#4
#4 Zane Richards (Illini) vs. #2 NaTo (Ohio State) @ 133
NaTo looks pretty tough in 1st & 2nd period. Richards is good, but he's not at NaTo's level. Richards putting on a decent ride in the 3rd, but having trouble turning NaTo thru 1st min, then NaTo escapes with 59 sec. NaTo in on a head-inside single for a TD with 15 sec left to get the major, 12-4
#3
#3 Tyler Berger (Nebraska) vs. #10 Brian Murphy (Michigan) @ 157
Figured this match would make it. Amazing what giving the broadcasters t-shirts will do. I wrote about this match a bit on Sunday when I saw it live on BTN, so I'm not going to write about it again.
#2
#2 Bo Nickal vs #14 Nick Gravina (Rutgers) @ 184
Another match most of you have seen, so no commentary by me -- at least that's my plan. Wow, still love seeing that move that Bo executed from bottom. (As an aside, I was at a wrestling tourney on Saturday. That morning, the refs and coaches were all talking about the move when they chatted before the start of the tourney.)
#1
#3 Eric Montoya (Nebraska) vs. #8 Stevan Micic (Michigan) @ 133
I wrote a sentence about this in another thread on Sunday, when I watched the match live on BTN. Micic was very impressive -- his early season hiccups aside, he could be a major factor at B1Gs and NCAAs.
PSU in 2 of the 6 bouts.
