Have to share this with you all. This morning a Bama fan stopped by my desk and voice her displeasure with Franklin's icing of the GA State kicker. She said it was a low blow and "beneath Penn State" to make that call. I took the opportunity to have some fun with her. I told her, "are you kidding, we harbor pedophiles, nothing is beneath us." I thought she's chuckle at that line, but instead went into this rant about what a tragic event the Sandusky scandal was and it shocked her that Joe was a part a cover up. She went on to lecture me on how these administrators and coaches motives actually hurt the school more than if they had simply admitted all the wrong doing. I instantly dropped the humor line and laid into her. Just unbelievable stuff. This false narrative will never go away. I am convinced. Heck, I had a conversation with someone on Saturday who actually thought Joe was also abusing children.

Correct. Never. It will never go away. And as a Penn State fan, you will always be susceptible to the claims of moral superiority of the mindless sheep. That may not bother you (not you specifically but you generally) but there's no reason it had to be that way. When people think your institution intentionally covered for a serial pedophile just to help win football games, you fight back. Unless some powerful people are happy and content to let others think that so that it keeps the spotlight off them.

While there will always be some that cling to it.... In the end, the truth usually wins. It might take a long time, but it will happen eventually. That's why we have a handful of trolls desperately trying to cement the false narrative.

IT depends if it is a boss or a working schlub. If it is a boss then you do nothing. If it is a working stiff I give it right back to them. Temple knew about cosby in 2004. Villanova knew about Dupont in the 80s.

I would tell an Alabama fan the victims were all ALabama fans and they got what they deserved. THey probably even liked it.

Nothing you can do about it. Even if people don't believe it, they will pretend they do.

I am mostly flattered that a Bama fan not only watched us against Ga State but watched until the last play! MOVING ON UP....

HA, right, they watched the entire game.

THEY SAW THE FG / TIMEOUT PLAY ON SPORTSCENTER!

I agree. The false narrative will never go away. Not in 10 years. Not in 100. It will never go away because there is no desire to correct it by our President and Board of Trustees. The Old Guard has a vested interest in the public believing they were right in the firing of Joe Paterno, and I think many of them take great joy every time they hear an attack on his life and legacy. While many, here, including myself, attempt, as appropriate, to correct the false narrative with facts, our efforts are but a drop of water in an ocean of misinformation. Individual battles may continue, but the war was lost in 2011 and 2012. I didn't realize it then, but for the past 5 years we have been fighting a lost cause.

Has nothing to do with the President or Board. The President already changed. Some of the BOT changed. Are you that clueless that you think Pitt fans or ANY fans will change their opinion of PSU based on anything the President or BOT do or say?

The problem is the Old guard coach F'ed up. YOu can't rub everyone's noses in it, pretend you are better than them and then have a serial rapist right under your nose.

I'm shocked that conversation even came up. Peetzie said it would all be a distant memory by now.

I don't know why we get so jacked up by one or even a few fans, of any school, being ignorant and expressing their dismay at PSU and then we transfer that ignorance to reflect on an entire fan base. Most fan bases are not much different than ours.

We should realize that most of their ignorance comes from what they have read or heard from the national media. They do not have much of the information we have and when we try to correct the narrative, we are viewed as having a bias.

Now I realize that some fan bases are so envious of Penn State (Pitt) they will use any excuse and then negatively exaggerate to hopefully damage our self image. I do not believe these few schools should cause us to color our perception of the many schools we exchange with.

I took the opportunity to have some fun with her. I told her, "are you kidding, we harbor pedophiles, nothing is beneath us."

So you brought it up, made fun of it in fact, and then you get mad when she gives her opinion about it (even if it was an uninformed opinion)? It seems to me if you didn't mention harboring pedophiles she wouldn't have said a thing about Sandusky.

You really want to piss them off? Tell them the entire thing is bullshit and that there was no cover up because there was nothing to cover up. Refer them to the federal agent John Sneddon that spent 6 months investigating the case. There's also a book coming out soon.

You are an ass. No other way to put it.

Right you are. The people who fight on risk ending up like those Japanese soldiers they found on islands in the 1960s still fighting a war that was lost in 1945.

Time heals all wounds. It may take a generation or two but this stigma will go away. My two tweens know nothing about it and proudly wear their PSU gear to school here in Houston. Their classmates think it's cool, since nearly everything down here is UT or A&M.

OP, you might want to change your subject line, as you refer to the ignorance of "Bama fans" and then you go on to tell a story about ONE ignorant co-worker. We don't like when others generalize our fan base or school because of one awful man, let's hold ourselves to the same standards.

Thought so too. But it may just have been a case of a misplaced apostrophe. I'm a little protective of Alabama fans, as they largely have been supportive of us both before and following this mess.

You make a good point. But do ever get the sense that it's like the elephant in the room when you talk to people about Penn State football. I sense it from people all the time. Maybe it's just me. My wife will tell that if there is an elephant in the room....I won't ignore it. I suppose that's a weakness of mine.

1. Pedophilia jokes are a no go
2. Once the original dust on this incident settled, 99.99% of the population moved on. It's not
ignorance or their fault. Their lives go on. I rarely hear anyone bring it up anymore.

Is she hot? After an answer (and accompanying photo if the answer is - yes), I'll render my opinion.

I prefer (and especially in this case) the concept that time wounds all heels.

Still hangin your hat on Joe? Good for you Sparky. Keep at it.

Do not be defensive when some quotes the false narrative. Instead use this as an opportunity to explain the correct version. Be brief or you will lose them!
