Basketball is better....

Dereck Lively recruiting update

Dereck Lively, the 7-foot-1 forward/center from Westtown (PA) who helped lead Team Final to the Peach Jam championship in July, will host several high-major schools this week when the recruiting period ramps back up.

Lively will host Kentucky, Penn State, Michigan and Duke between Thursday and Saturday.

I hope he picks penn state, even if he’s a one and done. Obviously prefer him to stay but that is not realistic.
Even getting him for 1 year would be an incredible boon for the basketball program to show that PSU is capable of getting a 5 star player (even if he is in their literal backyard); not to mention how good of a player he is, and he would instantly make PSU a good tournament contender.

I would be fascinated to see what the local fan interest in terms of ticket sales to watch him play for the year he would be here.

Could he make a mil a year with NIL while prepping for the NBA? Could the NIL actually allow top prep BB players to make good money in CBB instead of minor league money?
He’d only be here for one year…if it’s the $ that’s most important, id think a Duke/Kentucky/NC would offer a lot more opportunities than we would. Just need to hope that it goes beyond $.

Don't know the exact terms but apparently there are some lucrative opportunities for the top prospects.

Duke freshman Paolo Banchero is one of the top two or three prospects (similar in ranking to Lively) from the 2021 recruiting class.

Duke freshman Paolo Banchero is making history as the first college basketball player to appear in the NBA 2K video game series.

Banchero has signed a first-of-its-kind deal with 2K Sports that will make him a playable character in NBA 2K22 and allow him to create additional content for the game during the upcoming season, according to Boardroom's Sam Dunn.

Banchero's deal comes just over two months after the NCAA passed its interim name, image, and likeness policy permitting student-athletes to profit off their likenesses.

The 18-year-old was one of the highest-rated recruits in the 2021 class and is projected as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

3rd CB for Oweh to PSU. I feel that you can pencil that one in by this point. Gives us currently a top 10 recruiting class in the nation

So does this mean a player will be trying for slamma jamma or huge drives to ‘create additional content’ instead of playing as a team? Or playing to win? Will injuries go up as guys go crazy?

Maybe, but I’d say those players were already doing those things prior to NIL

You sound pretty sure about that. I thought it was a reasonable question.
Same answer Banchero's coach would give for this question. Bamchero had other alternatives than playing in college for one year. He chose to go to Duke and play for a coach considered by many to be the GOAT of his sport.

So, no, I don't assume selfish behavior because of this agreement. And I feel certain Coach K would not like the insinuation either.
