I'm not a big fan of the women's game, but at least he did it with student athletes in the traditional sense.

2 totally different games and sets of circumstances. Can't compare accurately women's coaches to the men's.

Re: John Wooden best ever

But would Wooden still be held in such high regard had the ncaa back then punished him (including removing wins and championships) for boosters paying players that he knew about? Such a different era in many ways (including a 16 or 32 team tourney that was structured much different than today).

There have been a lot of great coaches and there are a lot of great

coaches out there now. I like Morgan Wooten, Dean Smith, Coach K. Ben Jacobsen is great, Thompkins the assistant at Syracuse is great, Greg Marshall, Mooney at Richmond great, etc. The game is so well coached today it is ridiculous. The folks saying the players aren't as skilled and the game isn't what it used to be are using their eyes and their eyes are lying to them, offensive efficiency (points per 100 possessions) is at highs.

Geno is a great coach. He also has 3x the talent(which yeah he is responsible for). You don't think coach K could have coached them to those 10 titles? Izzo? It's not like in the guys game where Calipari can have a team full of first rounders that maybe not even the best team on the court. There hasn't been a game in years that UConn hasn't had a MASSIVE amount more talent than their opponent. Griner kind of put a wrench into their system for a little bit I guess.

The title #'s are meaningless when comparing basically two different sports. Or even eras for the most part. Auriemma is an all time great. I don't think even he as arrogant as he is would say he is the greatest basketball tactician ever or anything like that.

Apples and oranges.....you could make a better case for Morgan Wootten

at DeMatha High School in Maryland.

from the Wiki link: His career coaching record stands at 1,274-192. As the head coach of DeMatha basketball, Wootten won 5 High School National Championships, 22 Washington, DC Championships, and 33 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships.

Wooden had some help from Sam Gilbert, but 10 NC's and 88 wins in a row speak quite loudly in my opinion. No one will ever break either of those records. They're like Cy Young's wins record. Fuggetaboutit.

Johnny W.? Nattys? Are you trying out for espn?

You're an idiot.

Yep. I was wondering if anyone would get such an obscure reference. *

psu00, and where did you get this bull sh*t?

More parity in the men's game. Hard to compare. I do think he would do well coaching MBB.

They're student athletes in the traditional sense

Because it's not more lucrative to leave. The earning power of a college degree is higher than that of a WNBA or international career.
