Wrestling is gaining in popularity and is going to become THE sport. Or something close to that.

I have to admit I didnt like Carter initially, with his over-the-top statements.
But I learned to enjoy them.
Like the time (and I paraphrase) he was asked if he wanted to be thought of as the best or baddest or something in the world.
And he replied he didnt like "in the world... world is a limitation."

Carter has one other thing going for him that never gets mentioned because we’re mostly guys posting on this forum. He’s one really good looking dude. If he wants to give the MMA stuff a crack, I’d say go for it, but maybe try taking a few acting classes on the side. If he gets anywhere in MMA so that he gets known outside of wrestling circles, he just might be able to open up a new opportunity that would be even more lucrative than sports.

My favorite memory of Carter was his reaction in the stands when Nick Lee took down Eirman during the finals of the Covid nationals

I loved that he went out of his way to hold up Dan Monthley's hand after winning #4.
That’s one of my favorite Carter memories. What a line, that was pure gold!
My mom always loves to talk about seeing little Carter run around the tournament we used to run back in the day. He had a big head of hair back then so he was easily spotted.
I’ve talked with his youth coach Skip Chatt a few times about him and one of the overarching themes was always about Carter’s competitiveness. Skip coached him back in Carter’s Team Erie days and he told me about when he first met Carter. The story goes something to the effect of Carters dad had brought him to sign ups and he asked Skip to coach him. Skip knew he was talented and more or less said that if Carter didn’t win a state title in his first 2 years, he’d quit coaching. Well, Carter ended up winning one in 2010 and then three more times so Skip got to keep coaching haha.

My favorite was honestly his last match! That was absolutely fantastic action. Sometimes your one takedown matches are boring but both guys put every ounce of skill and energy on the line and to end it with deep mutual respect was the icing. That was some real end of the movie Jeremiah Johnson stuff
Carter is the Penn State wrestling equivalent of Chet Parlavecchio.
Chet had an unbelievable mouth. You would never think Joe Paterno would put up with it, but what he did was use it to his advantage. Specifically, Chet famously called out Pitt in 1981. "Pitt's played that tough schedule: Rutgers, Temple, and Thiel. Now they're going to play a real football game." 🤣
It worked! Pitt was totally pissed and Jackie Sherill tried to grab Chet in the 1st quarter!
48-14! Considering just how good Pitt was, in my educated opinion this was the most impressive single game performance ever, rivaled only by the unreal demolition Kansas State did to an excellent Oklahoma team in 03.
“They’re little. They’re not gonna hurt anybody.” Or something to that effect about the Brands bros.
I think it was towards the end of Pat coaching with Team Erie. I don’t know what year he specifically stopped coaching, but IIRC he was still around in 2009ish.
I think Skip has stepped back a bit more as of late because I haven’t seen him at local tournaments as much this year. He was using a cane as of last year to get around at tournaments
What a throwback! My brother used to remark (and still does) about Pat’s voice and how he sounded like a pirate. I haven’t heard it in years.
Side note: kinda ironic that both ended up as AAs in college. Cole at Pitt and Carter at PSU.
