Best PSU football players all time

It’s tough. I’d argue gesicki is way too high. Warren and Kyle Brady probably both higher in my opinion.

Good list. Mike Reid needs to be at the top. He essentially started the Paterno era. Barkley deserves to be on the list too. He is clearly the best running back ever to play college football in the state of Pennsylvania.

Remember Joe being asked once who was the best player he ever coached. He replied by saying that was hard to say since he was fortunate to coach so many great players but then added something to the effect that if he had to pick one he would say Lenny Moore. Works for me.

Trace McSorley? I can confidently say that his is the worst full time starter we have had at the position since the turn of the century. Not by a wide margin but definitely the worst. In my time watching Penn State (92 to present), Kerry Collins, Darryl Clark, Michael Robinson (putting MRob three makes me very sad), Christian Hackenberg, Wally Richardson, Sean Clifford, and Rashard Casey, in that order, or the best.

For my money, the best Penn State football player for his career was Courtney Brown who I also consider to be the best defensive end I have ever seen at the college level.

QB - Kerry Collins
TB - Lenny Moore, the most underrated football player ever
FB/Flex - Tyler Warren
TE - Kyle Brady
WR - Bobby Engram
WR - Allen Robinson
OT - Keith Dorney
OG - Glenn Ressler (forgotten legend!)
C - A.Q. Shipley
OG - Jeff HARTINGS
OT - Sean Farrell

We are running the new Jim Knowles defense with these people
DE - Tamba Hali
DT - Mike Reid
Spaceater type NG - Anthony Adams
"Jack", which I hope Knowles calls Fritz - LaVar ARRINGTON
LB - Posluszny
LB - Ham
LB if not in nickel - Shane Conlan

DB - Brian Tate (such an underrated player)

This is all off the top of my head

Ray Isom is on there because he was a freaking animal

We are running the I-Formation, by the way. If you are athletic enough to use it, nothing beats the I. Ask 94.

Anyone who thinks Casey, Seneca, Mills, Morelli, Bolden, and McGloin were all better than mcsorley.....I'm astonished beyond words 😂

Lenny Moore is the only man with 40+ rushing and receiving TDs in NFL history.

He also played defensive back competently at State.

It's a testament to how great Moore was that I don't think Barkley or Curt Warner were the best backs ever at State.

Posluszny is way too low.
He is most decorated defensive player in the history of Penn State football.

Kim Herring is the best safety to play at Penn State since 1982

You're right. Put him on instead of Isom, although it pains me to do it. Isom once all but suplexed Ironhead Heyward

Paul Posluszny is the best defensive player to play at Penn State in my lifetime. He should be #2 at the lowest. Most decorated PSU defender ever.

I'll shoot anyone who actually believes Gesicki was better than Brady or Ted Kwalick.

You left Munchak off, he's probably the best offensive lineman in PSU history.

I considered it. Penn State is loaded at guard. HARTINGS is THE best guard ever AT Penn State. Munchak, of course, is NFL HOF, but, frankly, JH was not far off. He toiled for some bad Lions teams and was most likely the best player not named Sanders in Detroit.

The reasons I included Ressler: he was ludicrously dominant playing both ways at Penn State. He almost singlehandedly crushed Ohio State in the Shoe in 64. We won 27-0, in an upset, and Ressler was in the Ohio State backfield almost every play. This is one instance of his greatness. He might very well have been the best player in college football his senior year. He was subsequently an excellent guard in the NFL. I am fully confident he is TRULY one of the 30 best players in Penn State history - regardless, that is, of position. I feel similarly about HARTINGS

No Courtney Brown is criminal

Well, for starters, Seneca and Bolden were not full time starters. Second, the rest were all better. Trace was the product of a collection of skill position talent that was unmatched in quality. He had all time great players around him at multiple positions and had the best O-lines of the Franklin era. Trace was the weak link. He wasn't better than Morelli (underrated) or McGloin. Mills was better as well.

I'll shoot anyone who actually believes Gesicki was better than Brady or Ted Kwalick.
How do you define tight end? Brady was the best "traditional" tight end I have ever seen. He was a reliable reciever who could get open and make catches while blocking better than most tackles. Gesicki was more receiver than tight end. Still is. But, was an underrated down field blocker. You almost have to evaluate him (and Andrew Quarles) separately from Brady. Warren is more in line with Mickey Shuler, Pat Freiermuth or Tony Stewart. Overall, Brady is #1 in my mind. If you want a receiver, Gesicki is by far and away the best, if you want balance, Warren is the man.

Well, he'd put Trace that low simply because he came with Franklin.

Mike Reid
Tyler Warren
Jeff Hartings
Bruce Clark
Dave Robinson : played TE and DE. All pro for Vince Lombardi's GBB
Larry Johnson : for one year the best I have seen. Looked like JBrown
Mike Reid : any questions?
Shane Conlon : ask Vinnie Testeverde

I think he was starting center for BColts, not guard

I was at that game. First ever CFB game as a spectator at age 7. My father was an OSU faculty member at the medical center and therefore we had faculty tickets. Little did I know I would be going to PSU as a student in 11 years.
