On paper, this is looking like the best class since 1991. Which is kind of cool since it's the 25th anniversary of that class. No real weaknesses, a bunch of top 100 type players. The 1991 class was a little more offense-heavy (5 HS AA running backs). This class is more defense-heavy.

Seems like a good time to remind people of a guy who was the least heralded recruit in that 1991 class. He was a severely undersized linemen (reportedly about 225 at the time he was recruited) out of Ohio named Jeff Hartings. Today he would be a 2 star (if rated at all) and everybody would be wondering why he got a scholarship.

My question is -- who is going to be the Jeff Hartings of the 2016 class? The problem with wrapping the class with 4 star players by mid-August is there is no room for late bloomers at all. Maybe it's not a concern. With all the camps, they have so much more information about juniors than anybody used to have. But every class should have some players with some serious room to grow the way Hartings did...

On paper, yeah. We had a couple great classes in the mid 00s that didn't pan out the way we'd hoped. You have to hope that the kids thrive here, in every way.

On paper we had a better class in 2010. 12 four star guys to 10. Remember it's ON PAPER, only time will tell true quality. A lot of the 4 stars for the 2010 class did not pan out.
That being said this is an awesome class, more to come. AND the bigger question is bringing in a class such as this, or close to it, EVERY year.

Dwumfour. Two-star rating must have been a typo.

forgot about him. It's interesting though -- his commitment was immediately followed by all the DL commits. Was that a coicidence? Or did all these guys get the message that the PSU offers weren't going to be on the table much longer.

ThIs class isnt done. You are comparing a complete class with one that is only 3/4 complete. With 6 spots left PSU will get AT LEAST 3 mors 4 stars.

What about the 2006 class with a 5 star and 14 four star recruits?

You are correct. Well, it turned out that class had a TON of problems. I will reserve comment as to why. Hopefully we will not duplicate that again.

The 2006 class was good. They played in the Rosebowl in 2009 (2008 season) and should have went back in 2010. (2009 season). The 2009 team won 11 games. If it wasn't for the OLine, we could have 12 games that year.

The most disappointing season to me was 2007. Morelli cost us 3 games that year. Should never lost to Michigan, Illinois, or MSU.

Hard to LOSE games you should win. Morelli was an OK QB nothing more. He did however have a great arm. Better arm than Henne but Henne was the better QB.

If you look at our schedule this year we "should" win 10. BUT unless we have a "decent" OL more likely we win 8 :) add a kicking game question maybe we only win 7.
I'm expecting 10 :)

Your first 2 words are the most important...on paper. The games are played on grass (sorry for the wise ass remark). Assuming they all sign, the 2016 class may be terrific, or they may be a collective bust. I am optimistic, but I'll wait a few years before making a judgment.
