I am traveling up tomorrow with my family for the weekend and staying at a hotel in town. With two young kids, going out to eat for dinner is not really an option.

Looking for suggestions on a good place that does take out for dinner.

Thanks in advance.

That's about all we have in this town...depending on which hotel you are staying, and what kind of food you and your family enjoy (Italian, sandwiches, Chinese, etc.) you do have many options.

The new Prospector's near the Benner Pike Walmart is horrific; I won't be going there again.

My My Chicken is fantastic if you're into that kind of thing: https://www.mymychickensc.com/menus/

The mac & cheese, baked beans, and corn bread are awesome in addition to the delicious fried chicken. Grilled chicken is pretty good too. I get the "Big Bird" family meal and it easily feeds 4-5 people (fat adults)--the sides are huge, and the chicken is delightful.

Plus, your kids will like going in My My Chicken even if it's just to pick things up. They have free arcade games to play.

One of the best Chinese restaurants this side of the pacific is right in State College. Little Szechuan which is right next to Five Guys on College Avenue. The chefs are all from the Szechuan (Sichuan) region of China and therefore some of the dishes can be quite spicy. They do have some of the typical Americanized dishes but the vast majority of their customers are the Asian students so most of the dishes are prepared exactly like you would find in China.

I usually order one of the hot pot dishes and then ask my waitress what she would recommend and order whey whatever she says. Hot pot won't work for take-out as you really need the heated pot. The daily specials are amazing so if you go in read the listing before ordering.

They also have tanks of live fish, crabs, lobster, etc. I've seen frogs and eels in their tanks as well but not usually. This place even smells like the restaurants all over China and Southeast Asia.

Little Szechuan is fantastic, but there's no way in hell I'd be caught near there this weekend. You won't even be able to get in the door to pickup food.

That's disappointing to hear about The new Prospector's.
I normally like their food.

Me too--I was so excited when they opened.

I got their family meal for 2, which was supposed to come with a pound of meat, 2 large sides, and 4 rolls. So I ordered brisket and pepperjack mac & cheese x2.

Got home, opened it up and found 2 small sides of macaroni salad. Tasted the brisket and it was so oversmoked that you couldn't taste beef....and there was only 6.5 ounces of it (I weighed it). So, I took the macaroni salad back to exchange it for the mac & cheese--didn't mention the brisket issue because it was so bad I didn't want any more. Well, the mac & cheese was even worse--it was a tasteless sauce with overdone noodles and a few pepper chunks thrown in. The staff, sans one person, was absolutely miserable.

So......never again.

Every time I've been there it's mostly Asian students and a few Westerners. Either way, I'd wait as this place is really good.

Related side story. I'm in the Harrisburg area and have been getting take out from the same Chinese restaurant for about the last 10+ years so I've become friendly with the owner and his daughter who works the counter (no pics, don't ask). A few months ago I was in there picking up an order and I mentioned Little Szechuan and she said she's been there many times and also thinks it's the best around.

Nice!

I love Little Szechuan's food--it's second to none, really. My point to the OP was that it's extraordinarily busy for a regular Friday/Saturday night, let alone an event weekend. I've waited an hour after an alleged pickup time for takeout orders on several occasions. But, the food was amazing.

Anybody have Doan's Bones Bar-B-Que. It looks great on their website, but I'm really getting hungry.

It's really disgusting and way over-priced. I feel bad for people who think it's good.

Danny's BBQ in Bellville and Curt's in Mill Hall are the two best barbecue spots around here, IMO.
