Best/Worst coaches in close games; by conference.

So he says Franklin is technically the best. The writer just chooses Suburban because he has a larger body of work. Also, if they watched last year's contest, they would know that Urby got the W because the zebras gave it to him. That would skew the data even more in favor of Franklin if officiating was not used by the B1G to have decided another close game.

I guess the numbers don't lie but then again, what about the games that some of these coaches because of crappy coaching should have won games by more than just squeaking by.
or, what about coaches who do an incredible job just to keep their team within four? article picks on wilson at indiana but that he can keep the hoosiers that close with that horrible defense should be to his credit. yeah, i know he coaches the defense too but, really, what elite high school defender is going to go to indiana. year end and year out its the same story, the defense is just way too undersized. so numbers don't lie but what the numbers are supposed to represent can be a lie.

Winning by three points over a team with C talent at home when your team has A talent wouldnt cause me to say they are a great coach. Look at the point spreads and those will give you a better representation.

(edited post to correct an error on my part)

FWIW, while Franklin is 10-5 in his career in 1-4 point games, he is ALSO 1-6 in his career in 5-7 point games.

Makes it a more even-level .500 (11-11) in games decided by 1-7 points (e.g., 1 possession).

1-4 point games:
2011: Connecticut (W), Arkansas (L)
2012: Ole Miss (W), South Carolina (L), Missouri (W), Auburn (W)
2013: Wake Forest (W), Ole Miss (L), Georgia (W), Tennessee (W)
2014: UCF (W), Rutgers (W), Maryland (L), Illinois (L), Boston College (W)

5-7 point games:
2011: Georgia (L), Florida (L), Tennessee (L), Cincinnati (L)
2012: none
2013: none
2014: Michigan (L), Ohio State (L), Indiana (W)
