Basketball BIG 10 CHAMPIONSHIP: PENN STATE VS PURDUE PREVIEW AND GAME THREAD - 3:30 PM - CBS

But they were not today. We were better by several points and they had several unexplainably wrong calls go their way. Even the announcers had to acknowledge several of them. That was absolutely the difference.
Stop it...Purdue is really good. They are clearly the best team in the conference.

thinking back to some games this year i reallly wish we had beaten clemson and rutgers

i actually dont think the tournament games were even considered

It's not about attention. Honestly, if you guys didn't do these back and forths regarding what I should say we'd be fine.
You have some good takes but you also make outlandish comments.

PSU MBB has virtually no chance to win the national championship so by your logic we should opt out of the NCAA tournament because it's just a glorified exhibition.

i don't mind it after funks attempts to inbound yesterday

pickett was also missing everything
But if Pickett receives the pass he could drive to the basket. We were shooting double bonus so PUR wouldn't want to foul him. He could also kick it out quick.

With Pickett inbounding the ball the only option was to pass it to the perimeter.

no team has a really high chance

that bracket we are in does not seem super intimidating though. we have been playing well and hope we can make some noise

Dallion Johnson had checked in....it woukd take HUGE/Lefty Driesell calling a last second play for his son Chuck vs Carolina (that was blocked) balls to run a play for him. Wasted body on the court. Would have rather seen him on the trigger.

Oh well. We turned it over w Kanye, missed front end w Seth and still had a shot to win (but didn't even get a shot).

Credit Purdue, and our guys for scrapping. Missed Seth at the end.

Beat Texas A&M!

pickett was missing shots from one inch away in the 2nd half. i don't think he gave us the best chance to make the shot

dread should have just shot the ball. the pass got tipped and the play seemed a little botched

Not at all--this is why I want a 24 team playoff for college football like the FCS. These games matter. A playoff is never a glorified exhibition. It's win or go home. A bowl game is just an exhibition for TV to make money.

The worst is the days long crappy insisting he is right and every single person needs to acknowledge it.

News Flash…… not everyone is going to agree with you. Make your point, defend it once or twice…. And then move on.

I think Thursday's win over Illinois was considered but probably not Friday's win over Northwestern and definitely not last night's win over Indiana.

That just doesn't seem right. PSU won 22 games, 7 quad 1, and came down to a final possession over #1 Purdue.

Iowa had 19 wins and 4 quad 1 wins. They're an 8 seed.

Michigan state had 19 wins, 5 quad 1 wins, and they're a 7 seed.

Illinois won 20 games, only 2 quad 1 wins, we beat them THREE times, and they're a 9 seed.

Indiana had 22 wins like PSU but they only had 5 quad 1 wins and we beat them head to head TWICE.

As far as games we should have won I think the 2 losses to Wisconsin plus the Nebraska loss at home hurt most. Rutgers hurt because we blew a large lead.

Playing 4 very tight games in less than 4 days had an impact on shot accuracy. This is a very good and very gutsy team. Missouri will not be anxious to play them on fresh legs. They are a problem for all teams because their offense is unique, their defense tenacious and their xs and os coaching is better than most.
We don't play Missouri. We play Texas A&M.

Illinois bad record vs quad 1 plus losing to us 3 times makes me think this committee was just asleep at the switch. if that was us we'd be going to the nit

Not really that puzzling. It the continued screwing we get from the Big10 since 1993.

Not even close...you're just refusing to dig deeper into their resume (or putting stock in the things that matter most)...there is a reason that Illinois came in as a 9 seed on the Bracketmatrix...they landed exactly where people that are in the weeds with this stuff expected them to land.

I realize there are factors other than total wins and quad one wins but I am convinced that PSU's last couple of games weren't considered. Why would 19 win teams like MSU and IA be seeded higher? It makes me wonder what would have happened if Wynter's last second attempt would have gone in. Anything?

Nothing…the big ten title game is meaningless unless there is potential for a stolen bid. We see it year after year.

Quad 1 wins are a hit topic and easy to talk about at a high level, but the committee digs much deeper and treats a win over 5 on the road much differently than a win over 75…and a win over 76, while now quad 2, isn’t different than that win over 75.

Illinois had wins over the 5th and 6th teams in the field (neither at home), and their worst loss of the year was to us. To think that could be an NIT resume isn’t remotely realistic (though I’m quoting you, I know you weren’t the one that said it).

And obviously nothing for beating Indiana on Saturday night. Indiana got a 4 seed so the loss didn't hurt them and the win didn't help us.

that is the one that bothers me. we probably got up to a 10 after beating Northwestern. They seeded us like IU won. We beat IU twice and fairly easily too. So either we are IU's kryptonite or they are not really that good.

Fir what it’s worth, we ended up as the second best 10 seed…A&M landed as the strongest 7 seed, so they just missed the cut.

shouldn't they put the strongest 7-seed against the weakest 10-seed? What is wrong with these guys?
That’s not how it works…geography is top priority, assuming that everything ends up balanced (which really just applies to top 4 seeds).

I think we got out of the play-in by beating Illinois then in the discussion for 9/10 by beating Indiana. I really don't think we were nearly as high going into the Big Ten tournament as many think--see Rutgers.

It seems, as @Erial_Lion said many times, the tournament playoffs make little difference….especially the title games. Their work is already done, the brackets are already set by Saturday night. Which seems cray.

So how’s about have Selection Day be on Monday. Give them time to consider tournament title games. Have the play-in games on Wed.

Another issue is that every game all season are all considered equal….which is crazy.……especially with the portal rule and all the transfers involved. Most teams get better as the season goes, especially ones with a lot of portal players and/or freshmen. Teams that improve should be rewarded for their hard work.

Divide the season into four quadrants then statically weigh them so the final 25% out weighs the rest of the season. Say give the first 25% a value of 80%, the middle 50% 90% of value, and the final 25% gets 100% value.

Oh wow. Indiana at 15, above even Virginia. What a coincidence that the process was being run by a former IU guard.
At the Bracketmatrix, which has nothing to do where someone graduated from, Indiana also ended up at 15th. Seems they fell exactly in line with the consensus.

Seems like they are way too high. Look at all of the teams between 15 and 25. Indiana should be behind most of them

One of the talking heads on BTN just predicted a Penn State IU rematch! Of course, he was likely pandering to his audience…..🤪

Yeah, not buying any of that. There's lots of people involved. I don't have an issue with Indiana as a 4. If they were boarderline 3/4 then I'd question it but they were a solid 4/5

I predict IU does not win a single game.

We kicked their butt in January and led by 14 with 3 minutes to go yesterday.

We had far more difficulty with Rutgers, Maryland, etc.

They aren't that good.. They aren't well coached.

They have two wins over Purdue, right?
Indiana has a lot of wins of teams in the tournament. They may be (like are) overrated but can definitely win a game or two. Could go out in the first but probably 58 teams could lose their first game.

I mean, they won at 4th seeded Xavier, swept a 1 seed in Purdue, finished in a tie for second place in the Big Ten, swept Illinois, etc. They are a pretty good team...look at the other 31 games on their resume beyond the two against us.

Their quad 1 & 2 record is 12-11. Same as Penn State. Penn State beat them twice in two meetings. I don't see the justification for putting them at 4, and if you are going to do it, we should be much higher than 10.

And Kentucky had 6 quad 1 wins and a Quad 4 loss as well as two Quad 3 losses and they’re a 6 seed. Not to mention they lost the first game of their tournament to Vandy.
