Big 12 Thread

I'm with those who appreciate a place to catch up on the Big 12 tourney (or any other conference championships for that matter)! Nice to see AJ Nevills with the #3 seed!

I wondered about that name. Brother or other relation?

141 is crazy tough. Is Heil simply not quite as good this year? I think he certainly showed some vulnerability, but I won't be at all surprised if he wins the weight class at either of these next two tournaments. I wish I could be as excited as Ban is, but the Cyclones are simply not very good while UNI is a really nice team. I remain cautiously optimistic about our prospects moving forward.

As Whitters said. AJ initially committed to PSU and I think hoped to wrestle 197 for PSU, but he got too big and at Hwt would have had to go against his brothers.

ISU isn't very good this year, but with that coaching staff that they have they are getting in top recruits and will be tough in the near future. UNI is also getting in great recruits, but we're getting really mixed results from them so far on the collegiate level.

As for Heil, he's still good, in my view. He looked very good, as far as Heil goes, against Alber when they wrestled a month or so ago. I do think he'll be more than in the mix come big show time. We can like or lump his style, but a two time champ doesn't do that by accident.

Doug has proven he can coach and did one heck of a job last year having guys ready at the NCAA. Foster has been one of the better development stories in the country. I too think ISU hired a good staff and will slowly improve every year for sometime. We are just so bloody bad it may not show up in box scores for a few more years. We will not much more in years 3 and 4 what kind of a job he is doing. I hope for a top twenty finish in 2020 and a top 15 in 2021. This would be solid progress.

Are Big 12's streamed on the interweb or does flo own those rights as well?

I will interpret your use of the phrase as well to suggest a negative implication that “hey maybe this whole monopolizing rights to niche sports isn’t such a great thing for consumers after all”. For that, I shall grant you an upvote.

When you say "we," are you referring to ISU? So, are you an ISU fan, as well as a PSU fan?

Just an interesting tidbit about Schwab. I was curious, as I always felt that Penrith was a product of being perceived as doing a bad job, versus actually doing a bad job. So, and as I guessed, I compiled Penrith's record versus Schwab's after both of their seventh seasons, and Penrith had better results, on all fronts. HOWEVER, and this was my point, it was by the seventh year that many started calling for Penrith's job, yet Schwab is perceived to be doing an incredible job. I find perception fascinating, to say the least.

With all of that said, yes, I believe that both are doing/did a great job, and maybe Schwab has a bit of an edge with recruiting.

I attended undergrad at ISU and was a member of the wrestling team, so yes I am an ISU fan first and foremost. We (ISU) have been terrible lately and my favorite wrestler of all time left and started coaching at PSU. I watched PSU out of a grudging curiosity initially, but became a fan after watching the style of wrestling. Doug looks really good compared to Brad because both Iowa and ISU are but shadows of the teams Brad was compared against. ISU becoming a national bottom feeder really helps perception...I once felt bad because I had no shoes until I noticed a man who had no feet!

I didn't know that, and I admire you for still sticking with ISU, as I did with UNI during our leaner years. Yes, it becomes a thankless job after a while, but I never had any choice as my team was my team and I couldn't jump ship.

Good point about how Iowa and ISU helps to feed that perception.

Are you still an Iowan then?

Meredith now up 3-2 after period 1. I can only follow it on FloArena. No TV connection. How is the scoring going?
