Big Game James...7 more years!....

I’m pretty patient with coaches, but all that elite tripe he spouted a few years ago echos in my ears.

He is not delivering on his own promises.
Be glad you have him. In the current NIL era plus recruiting geography this isn’t the Penn State of yesteryear. Highly doubt during this time period we could find someone who could do better than win 21 games in two years. He coached today with one hand tied behind his back.

And the clown show continues I see. Let me guess, if Penn State won the game it would be a meaningless exhibition but now that they lost time to pile on. I probably watched a different game but I thought the team came out prepared and played hard throughout. Mississippi to its credit took full advantage of the fact that both corners and our best defensive player, Chop, opted out. To make matters worse Carter gets hurt on an illegal chop block which wasn’t called. Played with interim coordinators on both sides of the ball. Disappointed but lots of young players got valuable experience.

At least one hand, maybe both.

the contract is what it is. he is delivering disappointing seasons but financially they are probably very successful. and 10-3 is enough to keep us relevant in the rankings and feed the recruiting cycle. the rubber will hit the road when there are about 3 years left on the contract. then psu has to decide whether to extend him again for recruiting reasons, or start over

as the state's richest employee! Money well spent!
Suck it up buttercup. 4 or 5 All Big Ten/All America players completely , or almost completely opted out of this competition. This team was a shell ( just like OSU yesterday) of the number 10 team in the nation. Not because of the coach, but because of the opt outs (with their agents, who have a vested self interest in them not playing), and system that encourages/perpetuates this.

It is highly unlikely that James will get this program to a higher level than it currently stands. It is quite rare for a coach to have his peak success after being at one place for more than a decade. Joepa may have been the lone exception, but even his peak may have occurred near the start of his career in the late 60s-early 70’s.

Bullshit. We can get 6-29 from ANY other coach. Pull the trigger and fire this fraud.

His peak was from 1981 to 1986. 4 of those 6 teams were elite. He had 3 elite teams from 1968 to 1973. He had an elite team in 91, and in 94. He had disappointing seasons in 97 and 99, and then had 2 more great teams in 05 and 08.

He did not turn the corner in his career until he changed how he coached, and began to value the offensive side of the ball and the passing game. That was in 82. His 86 championship team was an anomaly and was actually the final championship team to stress defense over offense. His 94 team won with an average defense but an elite offense.

I will theorize that unless Franklin changes the way he coaches, as Joe did, he will never turn that corner.

He will most certainly not do it with Drew Allar: some kids just aren't equipped mentally to play well in big games.

Exactly. But you should know by now it’s a waste of time trying to use logic on the haters. I thought the team came out ready to play and played hard the entire game; they were simply over matched on defense with all the opt outs and then Carter getting hurt.

Couple of things.

No way Ole Miss passes like that with Chop, King, and Dixon in the game. Olu didn’t play and Wallace barely played. All major factors in the outcome but the game was over at 34-17…. But, Ole Miss sat on the ball in the last 8 minutes as PSU played with urgency but the score was not indicative of the game. It was a beat down.

Nevertheless, what was most troubling is the inability of PSU coaches to adjust. Ole Miss did immediately after the first possession which is what good coaching staffs do. PSU was simply out coached yesterday.

So if I’m covering Randy Moss and he keeps beating me, then it’s the coach’s fault for not making adjustments? Did the FSU coaches not make the right adjustments against Georgia?

Are you surprised?

Yesterday was a similar result of the previous decades ineptitude against top competition under his watch. All I hear are excuses as to why this time is different from the previous decades worth of failures.

This is a recurring theme for CJF. Garbage time TD’s to cover the true story of an otherwise uncompetitive game against premium competition.

take out your calculator…..or abacas. Franklin has been here barely a decade. Half of which were under effects of severe sanctions and bad PR projected by media hypocrites…… and there STILL was success.
—Perspective— Suggesting you put away the microscope, and take a 30,000 foot view of the ever changing environment.
— This is currently a “Harry Potter moving staircase” environment. Changes all the time…. Not for the better.
Probably one of the worst times in history to be a coach….. or student ( unless you’re well principled/anchored /focused)

I don’t disagree with you. I think JF is a good human. But I think he’s a lousy football coach.

Players screw up or are playing like crap and Jimmy gives them a hug.

The team quit in the end of the 2nd. Coach has always had a hand tied behind his back. He FREAKING TIED IT!

Franklin is 21-20 in games decided by 7 points or less…. And 10-8 vs. teams ranked 11-25!
JF is 1-14 against top 10 teams since the end of the 2016 season. That lone win came last year against Utah in the Rose Bowl. 12-25 against top 25 teams since he arrived at PSU. 6 of those losses came in his first two seasons. So he’s 12-19 without counting the first two seasons.

Franklin is 5-22 at Penn State against teams in the top 15. His teams lose 4 out of every 5 games against the top 15.
