Today was huge and fantastic for most PSU wrestlers.

Joseph & McCutcheon had amazing days, taking 3rd and really set themselves up nicely for strong NCAA seeds.

Nickal & Nevills fought back to win both matches and take 3rd.

Bo's effort should earn himself no lower than a 3 seed and away from Dean.

Mark Hall had that match in hand, but it's part of the process. He'll win that match next time around. No shame in that loss. Getting out of bottom is usually the toughest thing for true freshmen.

Zain & Nolf. Wow.

Once Suriano gets his ankle back in gear, we're rolling in St Louis.

And I hope Jimmy gets things fixed to add a few points. Every point will be critical.

Fantastic tournaments for Zain, Nolf, Joseph & McCutcheon. And Hall & Nevills.

Thank you, Jeff Nelson.

I'm with you digger. Team fought gallantly and but for two close losses with the buckeye boys at 74 and 84, PSU wins the tournament with zero from 125-141. Pretty amazing it was as close as it was because O$U had an incredible tournament and hats off to them for seizing the opportunity and capitalizing on it.

Will both efforts repeat themselves in two weeks? I'm not expecting much for 125 in St. Louis, sorry to say. If he was still gimpy after two weeks not sure what another two weeks will do plus this is the wrong time of year to be inactive. Bo will rebound. But, there is something clearly wrong with Jimmy. After five years, as up and down as he has been, he has never looked so out of it. I only hope he is OK because that was not the Jimmy we know and love.

Let's roll, guys. Lick your wounds and work harder. Your ultimate reward is still in sight.

Job cannot be done with 8 kids. Not this year.

I don't like the phrase "something is wrong with Jimmy". He's had a tough career. If we know it, he certainly knows it. Mental fatigue may have taken its toll and I'm not sure this tournament isn't hangover from Stillwater. At this point, I have more faith in the fact that JG will land in St. Louis with his head on straight than I have faith in Surianos ankle.

When I was a kid, one of our PSU wrestlers lost in the Nationals. He was a 3 seed but he lost in the semi's. I was bummed out because the PSU guy was like a local hero where we grew up and he was so close, but Iowa had a future gold medalist and Michigan had another olympian.

I actually came up to Coach Koll with some of the parents, just to listen, and Coach Koll said "He wrestled as well as he could".

That goes for Jimmy. Sometimes it's that simple.

The job will be done with 8 guys or less by every team except okie st. Is it in the bag for okie state in your mind? tosu will get nothing worth mentioning at 125,157,165. That leaves 7. PSU will get nothing from 133 and perhaps 141 and 125 if it doesn't heal quickly. 7 on 7 with the buckeyes. I can't even venture a guess why you see things this way. Should they just give Toggs the trophy and skip this thing?

Sorry, I meant 7.

7 kids who can score. You need 9 this year. Did you watch the Big Tens?

Hah. I did. And I maintain that we don't have "kids" to send. Apparently you missed a good portion of the tournament. Penn State is sending hammers to NCAAs, not kids:

+1 especially "At this point, I have more faith in the fact that JG will land in St. Louis with his head on straight than I have faith in Surianos ankle."

We hammered everyone today. We had a great tournament and our hammers maxed out on points, and Ohio State still lapped us. Good god, the myopia on here.

His performance killed his seed. He'll be matched up with a top 8 guy in the first round, and then have a tough consy. I don't think he scores any points.

This movie played two years ago, the same story. We finished 6th then. I think we do better and maybe take a third this year. But no, it won't happen with 7 on 7 vs Ohio State when they go murderers row from 74 to heavy.

Digger. I agree 100% well said. A healthy Suriano and PS wins. I thought most of the guys placed where they should have. Also, the bonus points scored from Zain,Nolf, cenzo, hall, Nikal and Nevils was incredible. I cannot wait for the NCAA's

Edit - I was typing just as you brought up your 7 v 7 scenario:

---------
So how many points did Rodriguez, Burcher and Ryan contribute at Big 10s that you'll think they'll contribute at Nationals? It like the Kade Moss at Scuffle concept.

Leaving the Cowboys aside for now, it's going to essentially be 7 on 7 point scorers against the Buckeyes with Nick hurt.

Snyder, Moore, Martin, Bojo, Mojo, Pletcher and NATO against:

Zain, Nolf, Cenzo, Hall, Nickal, MM and NN.

Seeding will play a big role.

I'm really curious to see what the committee does with Joseph and Jordan. 1-1 head to head, I wonder though if Joseph's early season loss to Subjeck will be the decider.

Well Jimmy is a Sr. so he better damn well make this the best tournament of his life !!!! He can beat anyone when he puts his mind to hit...But guys are going to be looking for him to have his head down or a throw since he got pinned 3 times this week on all guys that he beat before....He need to look for his angles and move his feet a lot more....

B2G's:
Rodriquez, Ryan, Burcher = 15, others 124.5
Suriano, Law, Gulibon = 3.5, others 126.5
Carton, Gunther, Holloway = 3, others 109.5

but to say nick's injury is the only reason, is not correct. They out wrestled us this weekend.

That and the nationals is a different animal. Sets up much better over all for us than tOSU. Getting Nick back at all would be huge but still think we set up for a strong run at the title.

True, they out wrestled us this weekend, but there is another weekend coming up and I and others on this board think the results will be different. Given that this is already your 100th post to that effect, we got your message - most of us just humbly disagree.

Call me crazy, but I don't think Jimmy getting pinned 3 times in the tournament by wrestlers he has beaten before constitutes wrestling "as well as he could".

Boom! Ryan and Burcher might not even qualify. Rodriguez is an early out

With the number of byes gave up in the first round, yes. They quite literally outwrestled. Won't happen again in St Louis.

I really don't understand the scoring on byes. It's something that happens off the mat and, essentially or at least potentially, penalizes higher seed guys who get the bye. You should get the maximum number of points for advancement and bonus if you are forced to take a bye.

Forget about the 16 seeds and random draw?

Jerry was a helluva wrestler. He still looks like he should be carded before someone serves him.

The irony of course, being that the family patriarch business, is beer distributing, haha.

Also, incredible that you knew who I was referring to based on that limited information I put out there. Hats off to you.

Just so ever body knows. 13 days and Penn State wins number 6 out of 7.
It has been pointed out, Ohio State wrestled a perfect weekend and it was barely enough.
Congrats to the Bucks for a great performance.

Burcher will get an at-large
How? He's 16-16 with 1 win over an opponent ranked top 20 by either Flo or Intermat -- Gunther this weekend. He also lost to Gunther in the dual.

I find it very hard to believe the committee can't find 4 more worthy candidates. And remember that Gunther didn't qualify either.
