Bill Connelly's SP+ Rankings

Why are you here posting logical nonsense on a Sunday? I thought you would be busy hawking that overpriced cheap trash you sell over at the local flea market. Aren’t Sunday’s your busiest day?

Ahem!
Those who have the means to dress in Gambit do not frequent flea markets and even if they did, perhaps just to see how the other 99% live, they would not be seen there on a Sunday.
On Sundays they do brunch in the Hamptons.:)

The problem is if we lose one...that’s where the rankings matter. If we go undefeated, yeah we’re in....if we lose two, we’re out. Problem is almost no one goes undefeated and only Bama, Clemson and Oklahoma can suffer a loss without it killing their chances at getting in.
True.

Hampton VA or Hampton SC?
The Hamptons on Long Island, where a home like this is considered a bargain at 85 million.:)

If you take previous years out of the equation, it’s not hard to see tOSU and Auburn ahead of Bama and Clemson at this point.

Define "struggle"

First downs 22-14
Total Yards 429-357
Time of Possession: 42-18

You are right, we dominated, oh wait.....You are like many of the special people on the board that likely never played/coached/officiated sports at any level of consequence in your life.

Wonder what the players/coaches of Penn State would say about how they feel the game went.
You can analyze all the stats you want. And obviously there are things that could have gone better in that game (which is to be expected for a young team in game #2).

But the only numbers that matter are on the scoreboard.

First downs: don't matter
Total yards: Don't matter
TOP: lease relevant stat there is

SCOREBOARD

My top 10 based on simply the scores of the games thus far and the opponents SOS. Rankings before week 7 are generally fairly useless as there is not enough statistical significance and correlation just yet.

However, computers will really like us if we can get through Iowa unscathed.

Penn State
Wisconsin
Ohio State
Alabama
Auburn
Oklahoma
Georgia
Clemson
LSU
Notre
Don't expect this to be reflected in the AP or Coaches Poll.
Based on what I have watched and who they have played, I would say:
Auburn
LSU
Georgia
Ohio State
Oregon
Oklahoma
Alabama
Notre Dame
Wisconsin
Penn State

There should be four B1G teams in his top 10. Anyone with any kind of sense and watched Jim and UM DESTROY Rutgers yesterday realizes that the Wolverines definitely belong in every top 10. His poll is just total BS.
You are awesome. The shit that comes out of your mouth is comedic gold.

Would probably say they didn’t play very well in the first half, but dominated in the second half and won big.

I think that is accurate, but would also add that whoever is the 2nd best team in the $EC in a given year it also doesn’t kill their chances of getting in. If L$U beats Bama then they will stump for Bama and L$U to get in. If Bama wins out and faces Georgia in the $EC championship game then they will stump for the runner up to get in. It doesn’t matter that the league is completely top heavy and outside of a game or two the top teams have no prayer of losing. The presumption must always be that the $EC is the best league outside of the NFL.

It is why I think any team struggling and winning a game should almost count as a positive. Every team, as long as college kids are playing the game, is going to have a game or two where they are not at their best. Fighting through your off day and getting the win is all that matters. The pressure for teams who are not the chosen ones is to be perfect and that is a lot more difficult than being given one free mulligan a year.

Crooked refs letting Wisconsin OL hold all day ! Ridiculous BS !

Come on man get a grip. Michigan was constantly out of position defensively. Even the former Michigan commentators said that. This is the height of excuse making.

We may even be looking at three teams from the SEC this year getting in unless Oklahoma continues to look good. Three SEC teams and Clemson...boy, wouldn’t that be exciting?

Total Yards leaders last year.

1. Oklahoma
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. UCF
5. Alabama

3 of the 4 playoff teams in the top 5 and as much as I hate Ohio State, they would have destroyed Notre Dame as well.

Would seem their might be a correlation between total yards and performance.
I guarantee there is a better correlation between scoring more points in every game than your opponents and winning a lot of games.
