Bishop mccourt going to federal court

Ahh, the rats ass, how is it this even became a thing?

Did someone actually give someone else a rat’s ass??

And while Im here, why do we say “ thats the cat’s ass”?? What the hell is so special about a cat’s ass???
Have you ever watched a cat walk lol

The Zain situation baffles me. Am I correct in hearing the Retherford family moved out of one district and into another, purchased a home in the new district and the district they moved out of imposed a penalty? There has to be more to the story.

There is not really more to the story. The previous school filed the complaint. The fact that they said snywhere but Benton is what gets me. It was personal.
Amazing, whatever school district the Retherfords moved out of should of had no say when the family established residency/purchased a home in the new school district. IMO The freedom to move your family in and out of a school district should never be compromised when property purchases and sales are involved. Sorry the Retherfords had to go through that.

To move them up, when most of the athletes graduate makes no sense imo.
It is actually a points system based on winning the championship and how many transfers in. At least that is what I read in an article about Aliquippa.
PIAA tap dancing around an issue.

Aa much as the disdain is warranted for McCort as they have been repeat offenders over the years, I'll repeat my comment on this situation.

Their one HS transfer - Eric Gibson - was ruled ineligible last season for the postseason and sat out as per PIAA rules. ALL of the other kids we're talking about here came to McCort BEFORE HS.

I get it - their past actions have been shady. But since when has the PIAA stepped in in the case of middle school kids? I'll answer - NEVER.

Honestly, I can't see how the PIAA actions in regards to the kids stand up in any way to scrutiny. The actions against the coach, yes, but who really cares about that. Bassett will just have an assistant be HC for the duration of the suspension. It's a pretty toothless penalty. Which is why they went after the kids IMO - which is wrong on multiple levels.

I could be wrong but as I posted above, my understanding was that the penalties were because of one kid who transferred this year from Forest Hills to McCort, and supposedly nothing to do with the Bassetts, Gibsons or the kids who moved from out of state. But the length of the suspension was in part because they were repeat offenders from several years back or something.

Not much, just the PIAA being the PIAA. To make it even better, Zain was allowed to play soccer that suspended year. Just not wrestle.

This was an instance that I found truly disturbing. If parents pack their family up and physically move into a different school district, it isn't anybody's f#*king business why they did that. That is now the school district where they live and pay taxes, their kids should have access to every activity the school avails to every other kid. To allow some butthurt adult from the kid's previous school to have a say in what activities the kid should have access to is the ipitomy of adult bullshit.

That wasn't back room politicking. PIAA passed rules a few years ago that you move up when you keep winning titles at the current level.
I was vaguely aware of the guidelines.
I would think putting a school up in a classification 3 to 4 times their enrollment size seems to be unfair.

Paraphrasing Jerry Tarkanian, everytime Kentucky basketball gets caught cheating Cleveland State gets hammered by the NCAA.

The PIAA is supposed to govern HS sports, HS sports exist for the benefit of kids. The PIAA should be looking out for kids, not allowing themselves to be used as a hammer to cause harm to kids at the bequest of a butthurt adult.

Line mountain which I would say is a big rival for Benton especially in the post season. It your right should not have been a big deal. Of course I don't know the whole story

That was kind of a crazy year at Line Mountain. Shortly after the Zain fiasco, Martz resigned before the season for "personal reasons ". Only to be hired back on.

Lake Lehman had a similar Zain experience. Jack Davis was originally from LL, he was wrestling coach and a professor at Clarion, he left Clarion, moved his family back to LL but his son was not allowed to wrestle his junior year due to a complaint to the PIAA. Clarion and Harveys lake are 200 miles apart, he didn’t just switch schools for a better program.

But he was able to compete in football and baseball, just not wrestling…

Mike resigned for personal reasons. Once that got sorted out he was convinced to come back.

This board used to have a party to that issue post. That person stopped when the it hit the fan. That person still went to PSU matches and rooted on the lions during zains time. No idea if he lurks/lurked here and I havent talked to him in many years. I presume he still goes to matches and roots on the lions, as he is a very passionate wrestling fan.

There was a lot more to it at the time, but I think everyone is better off for it staying in the rear view.

Like Aliquippa and others, Southern Columbia got bumped up again for football. Which is fine.

There is a long-long history of district switching in the coal region which is probably why it never has gotten to the PIAA level. The zain thing was just different and im very content to leave it there.

PIAA should do exactly that, bump them to AAA and move on. I would assume they wouldn’t care, it would make AAA even better. Case closed, moving on. I don’t think the PIAA wants to get into chasing Ms athletes and tracking all their moves. Hey Zain Train moved, got a year penalty and turned out to be a very good Nittany Lion.

My only thing is how is this different than Becca, NDGP, Waynesburg, Nazareth, etc. I guess the only difference was these guys were quiet and Mcort was loud about it.

I was at a MS event this weekend, wait until AA gets a look at this Faith Academy.
I ran that tournament u are referring to. They are definitely loaded and all such nice, respectful kids. I would have them back any year.

Again, a school telling a family that they can move anywhere but a certain school is BS. The fact that they still live there all these years later kind of proves the decision was crap. If it were all about wrestling they would have left when Zain graduated.
Yep

All of this.

While we all dislike that ruling, Zain wasn't victimized by it. Quite the opposite. Sorensen, Pantaleo, and Jordan were the real victims.

Well ran event. Great work sir.

Can you comment where all those kids came from. I been following wrestling for a while not the youth. Just impressed by those kids and that youngest Harar boy. PA has some young hammers coming up very soon

Then Zain comes back from year off and wins state final against Lansberry from Line Mt.

Don't forget...other victims are anyone else caught in the Bow N Arrow!

I bet they would make that same decisions 100 times over. It definitely worked out for Zain and being in the environment he wanted. Yes Hughes probably did have a huge impact on the decision. I hate mega teams and private schools but parents should be allowed to send their kids to where ever they want. Someone said early let the privates have their own conference and make PIAA all public. Football and basketball would be a lot different then.

Is Waynesburg Central private or public
Waynesburg is public. Central Greene school district in glorious Greene County. Home to 3 of the 13 PIAA 4x champions: Jim Conklin, Cary Kolat, Gavin Teasdale.

Wow! Quite the story. Glad the Retherfords rose above it.

Now the parents will all make up a fancy story that they did not transfer their children for sports. The kids will also have to be in on the lie. Nice example that sets for them. The whole world knows they transferred to wrestle. People in Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America know it, even Australia. Everyone! Most agree they should just transfer to Wyoming Seminary.

The reality is they had no issue with him getting an education there which we all know is the reason for school. They had an issue with him being good at wrestling and not wanting to be in their community.

I don’t know why the out of area kids should even deny that they moved here for sports. The area has M2, Young Guns, The Compound and the RTC within driving distance of it and some very good competition for their sons to go up against. Why not say we moved here for the clubs, training and PA competition and chose McCort because they wouldn’t be restricted in finding a home that they’d want inside a particular school district. Tell the judge, what school their kid wrestles at doesn’t even matter because they get better competition at the clubs and they moved here for what the area has to offer outside of school. I didn’t read the court paperwork but I was thinking this has more to do with one of the local kids transferring to McCort than the out of staters.
