Bo Bassett announces on Tuesday

so he wants to be a game changer for the team he goes to no matter at iowa they will still finish below PSU!
There's another way he could be a game changer that nobody has considered. He could show up at Iowa and after one semester put his name in the portal and tell TnT and Slumlord Bob to take their NIL $$$ and shove it. That would be a REAL game changer. No top level recruit would ever consider Iowa again.

if true...$5mm is a lot of cash - enough to be a significant emotional event for anyone receiving it. That causes me pause in many ways. Millions may make one wonder what the islands are like in the dead of winter ... or if I'm getting burned out with all of the work being put in... It's not like a nice gift but rather one could say a lifetime of retirement... Bo is still young - running at a 100 mph with all of his activities. Hope he keeps his nose to the grindstone regardless of choice.
Still think one could make a change (after realizing it "wasn't all that").

5 million is life altering, the sacrifices his family has made etc...
Iowa needs to throw anything they can at him to put another bandaid on the bleeding.
They think it will change the tides, it will alter it but not change it as everyone other than the hawkeye faithful see.
They keep running into that same wall and are surprised when it doesn't move.
They need to throw a pile of coin at their RTC and get some new blood in there to run it along with the regular wrestling program if they want long term relevancy.
If Bo goes there I see his impact much like Spencers, bringing a few guys and bringing them a bit of joy to the Hawks. But to catch up and pass they need more than that..
To be the best he can be I think Bo made a mistake if he chose the Hawks.
Im thinking the Brands Bros threw in a life time of snow shoveling for the Bassett family and THAT is what sealed the deal.

What is his NIL income from social media right now? It's got to be a pretty penny. For him, the monetary end really has to be where he will maximize his own brand value, not who's offering the biggest bag. That's just temporary income, not a lifetime stream.

But I do enjoy tikk10's earlier jab about Cael training up a lesser-known recruit who stops a Bo title run down the road.

Can't help but think about other wrestlers with astonishing youth accomplishments who were guaranteed to be multi-time nat'l champs only to fall short of that expectation once they were in college. Dayton Fix is one who comes to mind.

If it is indeed "all about the money", it's interesting to me to see someone who has been so publicly professesing to be very devout in their faith, quoting Bible verses, and holding Bible studies, all of a sudden flip their script and so easily and conveniently get caught up and ignore what the Bible says about "greed", not to mention "hypocrisy". If that's the case, so much for any "religious" gimmick. Hebrews 13:5.

Careful brother. Making this a religious/spiritual thing feels a bit out of bounds and over the top to me. Matthew 7:1.

There are lots of other possible reasons behind Bassett's decision that could have nothing to do with hypocrisy or greed.

At days end PSU offers more to BB than BB offers to PSU
Would not shock me one bit this is true. Not that Bo isn't GREAT. Just that it is what it is, the systemic advantages PSU has today will still be in place tomorrow.

I also don't believe that his actual recruitment, even in his own mind, is over tomorrow (and that is true even if he picks the good guys).

After pondering on this while shoveling snow this morning here is my take on things.
He watched the match Friday night and decided one of two things.
1)PSU has everything a program can offer for being successful unlike any other and there isn't a need to prolong his decision. PSU it is.
2) He's known for some time that he was going to Iowa. After getting throttled by PSU in the dual of the year he figured he better commit now to help the appearance of the Iowa program. In hopes that when this year's mercenaries are gone his name will assist with building a team around him.

even Slumlord Millionaire can't keep throwing multi-million dollar offers at everyone he wants. Expect either a blow up among the Ferrari camp or the faucet is going to run dry pretty quickly with two millionaire kids running the show there.
Sure he can. The money faucet will never run dry for some, their NIL commitments paid from interest-only on other balances, or from a money pool so deep, millions are but droplets. Quarter, half and full billionaires exist, some with egos as large as their fortunes. They’ll continue paying and chasing the pleasure of assisting/touting a favorite college’s athletic success. Given what pro sport owners pay top athletes to pursue pro titles, what NIL kings (including ours) spend chasing collegiate ones shouldn’t surprise us.

Bingo! I remember a good recruit who came to Penn State about 15 years ago. He was a decent wrestler, but I don't think he was considered a top level guy at that time. If my timeline is correct, he was recruited by Sunderland but CC&C did something special to help him reach his real potential. His name is Ed Ruth.
As a high school senior, Ed Ruth was the top-ranked prep wrestler at his weight class. Pretty sure he was a top 10 P4P guy. No one was necessarily expecting a 3X NCAA champ, but Ruth was definitely a top level recruit.

Too much has happened since then to remember all of the details. Am I correct that Sunderland was the coach who recruited Ed? I also read somewhere that Quentin Wright had a lot to do with convincing Ed to come to Penn State.

Not trying to derail this thread, but I think Ed is a great example for any potential PSU recruit who wants to be an NCAA champion, including Bassett.

I take all the money talk with a grain of salt. Paige Bueckers of UConn Women's bball stayed in school partly because she is making more money with NIL than she would as a professional bball player. Bo can make plenty of cash on his own at this point. I have to believe he's got the long view in mind or that people advising him do.

I keep going back to my timeline of events posted in this thread a couple pages back. What happened over the weekend that would cause Bo to accelerate his process so dramatically? PSU stomping Iowa at BJC. Is it possible seeing that match convinced Bo that his wrestling goals (and his NIL goals) would be best served by going to the Nittany Lions - especially after being on a team with a lot of the guys from PSU on the U20 team last cycle? It doesn't seem too outlandish to me.

And I get the point that Penn State will be fine either way. But are you telling me that a kid sitting in BJC and watching Friday night's match says to themselves: "After watching that match, I know I want to go to Iowa so I can be on the losing end of these beatdowns."

on flo Bo said that the money was comparable between all the programs and that the online postings about nil were just not true. He again spoke about being the best person, the best wrestler, and his after college aspirations.
If you take him at his word, it would seem that psu and the osu's would be the most likely.
My blue and white lenses think it will be psu.

Am I wrong to be ok with Bo going anywhere but OSU?

More concerned for the drag effect, than just his individual contribution. Jax, his siblings,...

No matter we will adjust and excel anyway. I would love to see what Cael could do with him.

If he really wants to make an impact how about eyeing undefeated 4xer, and being the face of a program full of goats.

There is a lot to be said of being the best of the best, the best ever at PSU, .... there will only ever be one!

Now that's a goal he should be able to chew on!

Only thing I could think of is Slumlord Bob giving him a time frame..hell, if I was throwing out the kind of money that's rumored, I'd want an answer

Might have been more of a Cenzo thing. Chance obviously had other challenges, and Nolf, Joseph, and Hall were still hurdles even in the absence of those.
Cenzo was a year later, and was at 149 for his true freshman year.

By the time Cenzo was our 165 starter, Marateller had already transferred to Lock Haven, had that unfortunate incident, and entered rehab.

Cenzo did OK though.

Is anybody seriously concerned about Iowa if they land Bo? I’m not when we can roll out lower weights of Luke-Davis-Blaze-Van Ness-Kasak/Duke next year.

I was thinking the concern was DT getting Bo and Jax, then our competition looks real.

I was “what” after hearing the numbers tossed around for QB Manning at Texas. And that was considerably way less, curious it surpassed his Uncle’s NFL salary? But $5 Million for a wrestler?

If I was a hedge funder, Penn State athletics would be one of my “charities”.

A lot has been said on how much, where he’s going, reasons, and on and on. Wherever he chooses he’s still going to be the same kid who puts in the work day in and day out. Hopefully he’ll be successful (not against PSU for PSU) and does well for himself.

Wait, so Mineo put out information that would feed Iowa hope that proved to be incorrect? 🤔 🧌
Someone on Twitter replied to Mineo's first tweet that it has to be Penn State, and Mineo quickly replied it's not. He then deleted that comment that it's not Penn State.

Whatever Pat's information, I believe he has actual information, and I believe it doesn't point Penn State's way.

Again, though, things change and move quickly. His info could have been accurate yesterday and inaccurate today because kids change their minds.

Or it occurred to him that the Tyler to RU rumor wasn’t true and the PSU middle weights look pretty stacked and crowded.
Tyler is 2 seasons in. Van Ness is 2 seasons in. So is Mesenbrink. So is Levi. Bo could redshirt and take over when any of them graduate. I don’t think a recruit like Bo is worried about making varsity.
