Bo Bassett announces @approx 8:30 pm Eastern

The $5 million number is bananas, a high school wrestler is not becoming the 2nd highest paid college athlete. A million I can see absolutely but Bo is not getting paid more than Cooper Flagg or Carson Beck.

If he goes to Iowa, I certainly won’t take shots at a kid for making a college choice, but I will root against him fervently as I do for all Hawkeyes.
I'm really gonna hate driving by the Bassett house every day seeing a Hawkeye cover over their grille....

Flashbacks of seeing it at Murins house for the past 6 or so years... lol

On the bright side, if it’s Iowa, they’ll teach him to slow his pace down and learn the importance of tying up, not shooting, wrestling the edge and to enjoy the thrill of being tied 1-1 going into SV.

Wish it wasn’t Iowa, but theres a top recruit every year. No ill feelings towards him at all. Curious to see if they can actually handle a top recruit’s career over 4-5 years without getting him seriously injured, blowing his redshirt at a meaningless dual or tourney, screwing up his postseason seed, changing him into a pushing machine that never takes a shot, etc.

That is why the 5 mil probably isn't accurate.

If psu gave basset 5 mil, how much do you think it would cost to keep the rest of the team happy?
5 mil to a recruit who hasn't proved anything at the collegiate level.

Rest of team should get... 5 mil per national champ. 3 mil per AA. It might cost more than the O$U football team this year.

They can't certainly not in the middleweights.

So it’s def Iowa now and not okie state?? Dang they going have a nice young core wit Angelo, basset, Arnold, kueter, most likely Melvin miller+ portals.

Basch and Willie's show dropped earlier. Talked about the PSU dual and about the Ross and Bo announcements. Basch said he trying to do a live reaction show Tuesday and have Bo on it.

Personally, I don't understand the big hype around Bassett. He's a good HS wrestler and I don't blame him for enjoying his moment in the sun while everyone is trying to obtain his commitment. But let's be real about things too. I remember about 6 - 7 years ago, everyone was on pins and needles waiting to see where a certain highly sought after PA wrestler would go, and it didn't turn out to be Penn State. He did become a decent college level competitor, but didn't do anything that was considered earth shaking. And on top of that, his participation didn't do anything to significantly boost the status of his selected college program.

So if Penn State lands Bassett, fine. But if we don't, I seriously don't think our overall program is going to be diminished in any way. Our coaching staff seems to do a better job than anyone else of getting the best out of the guys who do end up in blue and white.
History proves we didn't need Spencer, but I would have loved to have him. I personally believe he would have been a 4x and a Gold Medalist but that's just me. If Bassett goes there, I expect similar experiences.

Can't get them all I guess. Not gonna break my heart especially after getting a just as possible (if not more) 4×er and Gold medalist Duke and then adding another in Blaze. If the two spent as much time and effort building a brand like Bo did, they'd have been hyped just as much if not more. Hell, I still think Jax is the number 1 recruit for the 26 class...just laid back and unassuming.

Need? Depends what you mean by need. His points would have helped us win the title over Iowa in 2021.

I mean, if you want him to go to a place where he'll have the least impact, that's the place.
Yeah bc we know Matter doesn’t want Bo there.. he’d hate to watch Bo wrestle from his seat in Jersey Mike arena… he much rather Bo go to Iowa or Okie state to give his PSU team a better challenge in the future. U got ur wish bud ;p

Every report seems to indicate it’s $5m over 4-5 years. As crazy as Slumlord Bob is, $5m for 1 year makes no sense. There is probably only 3-4 college football players in the entire country making multiple millions a year, and they are most certainly QBs.

Reports say proven 1 year rentals in college wrestling are getting $500k+, so blowing a wad on a social media star/excellent wrestler isn’t out of the question. How much do you think Bob spent this year on Parco, Teemer, and Buchanan? I’d argue $1m+ is better spent on a 4 year starter with championship caliber. It’s a better use of funds than 3 one year rentals who at best have you fighting to avoid 3rd place.

Add in the desperate need to gain any sort of momentum after getting bitch slapped by PSU, and OKST stealing your top in-state recruit and I understand it. Do I think it works long term? No. But I’m happy for Bo. I’m not a fan of his social media stuff, but he seems like a good young man. I say take that money and set yourself up for life.

Make no mistake about it, this move isn’t about catching PSU. It’s about fighting off DT & OKST for 2nd.

Just hope the board doesn't get nasty about it. He's a good kid...it's his decision. Will I be a fan? Why would i be... he'd be wrestling for the enemy. It sucks since he's a local kid I'd rather cheer for but....ya know..I'm an Iowa Hater. Lol.
So incredibly sad that Iowa's only hope is lure recruits with bags of money. That will not be a foundation for long term success. It's almost like they are admitting they are admitting they simply cannot compete.
