anything cool to do here? Went the the D-Backs game tonight, going to Sedonia tomorrow, Taking a train from Williams to the Grand Canyon later in the week. Any recommendations?

Some random thoughts...

Sedona is awesome...just enjoy the scenery, take a pink jeep tour, they're pretty cool. As for the Phoenix area...if you are into hiking, hike up Piestewa Peak or Camelback Mtn. Also, head to South Mountain Park. BUT since it's mid-June do this stuff early morning if you can or, if you have a head lamp....do it at night. The views of downtown are great. It's too damn hot the rest of the day this time of the year.

There is a cool Fiesta Bowl museum that's free, right in downtown Scottsdale.

Go to Joe's BBQ in Gilbert....great food! I also like the Tortilla Factory in Scottsdale. Also north of Phoenix there's a neat restaurant called Different Pointe of View at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs. Sit out on the patio and have a couple of drinks...spectacular view of Phoenix area from that vantage point.

Definitely hike up Camelback. Get there as early as you can, as it gets crowded, and hot.

Snooze is a great breakfast spot, and I like their breakfast cocktails!

I love The Mission for latin fare, Maestro's can be quite the scene, expensive steaks and cocktails and amazing butter cake.

Little Miss BBQ is another really great BBQ place (in Phoenix, but not far from Scottsdale)

That sounds pretty good. Not sure how long you will be there, It sounds like you have a pretty full plate but if there is anyway you can cram a trip to Monument Valley
in its well worth it.
Sedona is gorgeous. If you want to do some hiking I'd recommend the Oak Creek Canyon trial.
Here are some pics around Sedona and specifically the Oak Creek Canyon trail (they're the ones that have the small slot canyon and stream in it).

For food There is a diner called the Red Planet Diner. Its all Extra Terrestrial themed and the kids would probably like it but the food was pretty good.
There is a restaurant called The Cowboy Club Grille and Spirits that has decent food but offers amazing views of the colorful mountains and cliffs.
The Cowboy Club and the surrounding area is pretty touristy.

If you want to try a vortex trial (I didn't notice anything different) the Coffee Pot Trail is very nice and very easy so if you have kids
its a good trail...Heres a link...

When you get off the train, walk up to El Tovar, just a short walk up the hill from the train depot. Tremendous views of the Grand Canyon and El Tovar is a nice place to start. Go into El Tovar and check it out also. Depending on the time you have, catch the buses that go out along the rim towards Hopi Point. I think they are still free and run a regular route out to various stops along the rim. Each stop provides a great view and some history along the way. Take your camera and a spare. Catch the mule corral if the mules are going down to Indian Gardens. Walk down the canyon about 1/2 mile on Bright Angel Trail, don't go too far. It's an uphill walk all the way back. Enjoy the once in a life time adventure.

I was in Sedona & Grand Canyons recently (April of this year) for my second time.

Great photos BBrown! I wish I had an eye and talent like you for photos! I would also suggest if its within your budget to book a Canyon air tour while in Sedona (assuming the weather is good). We did that for the first time, and while expensive, it was a thrill. I am now able to say I've seen the canyon from the land, sea, and by air!

Great suggestions for Grand Canyon Fayette. The buses in the Grand Canyon Village area do run free of cost along the various overlooks. I would highly recommend taking the loop out west towards Hopi Point as well. Some of the overlook stops are close enough that you can walk / hike along the ridge (if your not scared of heights, or have little ones) between stops and take in the scenery. Assuming you have time in the canyons, definitely take the Bright Angel trail down as far as you can. Just keep in mind that you will have to assume at a minimum 2x the amount of time for the return trip as you took going down!

Have fun!
