So if Penn State wins next week in the championship game, and has beaten Ohio State head to head, they will make final four, right? Of course not, because this is really just a sad version of Olympic judged figure skating where the team (Ohio State) that doesn't win their own conference or even head to head to the conference champion is deemed the best team. My question is, who is the East German judge in this scenario?

A: Thomas Boswell

I watched an ESPN debate on this subject this a.m. George Stark, the ex-Skins lineman, took the side that Penn State should get the nod if they are conference champ and beat OSU head-to-head.

Among other things, College football is about money, TV ratings and the huge build-up to a national championship. And OSU, with its one-for-the-ages win over Michigan and its huge run-it-up-wins on weak teams like Maryland, has the glamour and the drawing power.

If it comes down to your scenario, Penn State is toast, imo. It's nice that the program has righted itself. But the Paterno-Sandusky scandal -- which still seems like it happened yesterday -- isn't going to warm people's hearts toward the idea of PSU having a shot at the national title so soon.

Omfg. So let me get this straight:

The media conflates Joe's role in anything Sandusky-related to ensure a juicy clickbait story, creating, with our very own leadership, a story and narrative that is completely false.

Then, the same media who created this in the first place, decides that PSU, mind you there is NO ONE here from that time and the men who have been charged are being adjudicated, cannot participate because of the very story they themselves created and sold?

This is a joke. Sandusky had NOTHING TO DO WITH PSU FOOTBALL until the MEDIA made that the case. Eff him and anyone that thinks this way.

What a piece of sh*t.

But the biggest thanks of all goes to our wonderful, never-gift-that-keeps-giving BOT.

Just f*ck everyone.
Fortunately Dr. Barron has issued this strongly worded defense of Penn State's culture along with the check for the $2.4M in Clery fines.

As the Department of Education was compiling its final report, we appreciated the opportunity to provide context and perspective where we disagreed with the findings. Despite that, we have accepted the fines and will continue to focus on our ongoing Clery compliance.

So now the team's resume has to include anything that happened that pisses of the committee members or may not be accepted by the general public. So I guess if ND has a great season they won't be in the discussion because of having their wins vacated...fat chance of that happening. Funny, they were never slow to embrace Ohio State after their sanctions.

When I read that column this a.m., I tried to remember any other pundit who thought that Sandusky would have anything to do with rankings or bowl selections. Sure, some have rooted, and are rooting, against Penn State for that reason; others continue to blast the school for Sandusky related things that wouldn't pass a fact checker; and some claim Penn State football deserved the death; but play on the field seems to be the only factor being debated by selection committees and most analysts.

Maybe openly debating, but how many are being motivated by it as their reason for campaigning against PSU getting in?

The last part related to Sandusky and Paterno is something I've been wondering about. What level of impact, if any, figures into the AP and Coaches polls (neither matter but still...) and the CFP. I find it hard to believe that it has zero impact although I don't claim that it is a significant issue either. Just curious if how the rest of the country would react will be a discussion point.

Mmmmm hmmmmm. From the assclown who was sure that Brady Anderson's 50 dingers was not an aberration (nor PED-aided). I guess the takeaway is he just gave us the opposite of the Beano curse.

Click-bait is all this is. Need to wait until the game is actually played. If PSU wins, then we can start all of this chatter.

Hopefully, it's the thinking of only this particular a**hole.

I could care less about the "playoffs". Just happy to see Franklin get some credit for the job he is doing. Despite many of the "experts" on this board.
He is PSU !!!!!

No - we should be upset about this farce IMO. Wisconsin should too. Goes to show the committee is fine with their impartial metrics to select teams for the play off as long as those teams are ones they like. Bigger issues here than sour grapes. This thing is rotten.
