Brandon Polk granted medical redshirt

Good news for Polk and evidently Coach Franklin considered him valuable to the program to pursue this.

I can picture a sweep developing with Barkley, the defense flowing toward it, and then Polk on a reverse, with plenty of room to run. :)

First offensive play from scrimmage. Just like against Temple a couple years ago.

IM going to sound like a jerk, but can Polk do anything else besides sweeps? Id like to see some other elements of his game.

this is great news. Love his playmaking ability, he's the kind of guy who can change the momentum of a game at any moment

Does this mean he could have another, regular redshirt year if he got hurt again?

They have to be able to use Polk as a receiver for that to be effective. You can't just put him in the game to run reverses and fake reverses. He might be great for quick slants and middle screens.

He definitely has receiver skills, so it will be fun to see what he can do.

I hope he's in the mix for PR/KR as well.

He's in motion, fake handoff to Polk, fake handoff to Barkley, swing pass back to Polk all alone flying down the sideline. TOUCHDOWN PENN STATE!

For the record, this touchdown drive by Penn State was 1 play / 75 yds.

Flag on the play. John O'Neill: "Number 10 flying down the sideline in anger ... 15 yards ... repeat 1st down." o_O

This is news? It was pretty much a given. Headline should have read " NCAA gets off it's ass; completes Polk's paperwork."

The B1G grants medical redshirts, not the NCAA.

But the point remains.

From what I've read, it's the B1G that grants the medical redshirt. If the redshirt is denied, then the athlete can appeal to the NCAA who may then grant the redshirt.

Nope, 10 Years is correct, it's the NCAA.

NCAA grants 6th years. Conferences grant medical redshirts.

12.8.4.2 Administration of Hardship Waiver. The hardship waiver shall be administered by the member
conferences of the Association
or, in the case of an independent member institution, by the Committee on
Student-Athlete Reinstatement.

What a bunch of cheap, lazy bastards the NCAA are. Rules governing medical redshirts are still those of the NCAA.
