NFL finds a way to come clean on these things. They just paid out a ton to the city of St. Louis and it didn't make the news.

Regardless, this may leave a mark.

Morris, bienemy, leftwich, ryans probably all will get interviewed this week if they haven't already. Would think two of them will get a shot somewhere.

FWIW, I'm a Dolphins fan and I thought Flores firing was a big mistake.. The team seemed headed in the right direction even though Tua doesn't seem to be the answer at Quarterback. Tua's passing has a lot to be desired, not very accurate and misses wide open receivers.

That's great that as a Dolphins fan you feel this way. But the fans don't own the team. And it seemed pretty clear he wasn't well liked by ownership, players and other coaches.

That's a recipe for a disastrous 2022 season

He has a message from Bellichek stating he heard he got the Giants job.

Before his interview.

Implies Bill got the wrong Brian and the job was Brian's already.

I don't quite understand the Federal suit though. The Rooney Rule is a NFL standard. Not a USA standard.

Does he want money, or does he want to coach in the NFL? He might get a settlement of some sort, but this seems like a bad move if he wants to coach again.
Well he said he understands that this lawsuit basically ends any chance he may have to ever coach in the NFL again but that the suit was “larger than that”. Will be a very interesting case but he is taking a huge risk here especially since he previously got an NFL head coaching job notwithstanding his race.

Dolphins fan here, I feel bad for Flores getting the shaft but I dont know if this is the right approach. He supposedly is an intense guy that rubbed too many people in management the wrong way. You can be a jerk if you're winning, but Flores hasnt made the playoffs in three seasons.

Does he make a claim that the owner pressured him to tank games for draft position? If I heard that right the NFL has problems. Gambling runs the league, so a proven instance of tanking is a big problem even though we all know it happens.

The Rooney Rule is why he feels like the Giants interview was a sham. It was a sham. The Giants knew who they wanted to hire but they had to interview someone they weren't interested in.

His only really valid complaint IMO is being fired by the Dolphins but that's sports and the profession he chose.

I wouldn't interview him or hire him after this but we'll see what the league does.

Are we pretending teams didn't want Trevor Lawrence and to lose games?
I don't see any issue with tanking--none. I think teams will be tanking next year for Stroud and Young. Hopefully the Steelers are one of them lol

Especially considering that he isn't ever getting a "whistleblower" multiplier in any court award.

A brief review of his charges don’t scream racism to me. For example the broncos offered up proof his story about that interview was wrong. The belichek texts aren’t racist. And being paid to lose games isn’t racist. Maybe a lot of incompetence but racist? I don’t see his evidence. Maybe the number of black coaches but the league had several two years ago.

Yes we pretend. The Penguins tanked to get Lemieux and Crosby and it worked out pretty well.

However a documented case of an owner directing a coach to tank games has not been seen yet as far as I know. What if the owner was betting against his own team after giving the order? The NFL will try to disappear this case quick and lock it up in the vault with the Belichik tapes.

He will try to show the teams don’t really follow the Rooney rule and offer Belicheks texts as evidence. The question will revolve around how mandatory the rule is first, and second whether flouting the spirit of the law violates the rule and indicates racism. The Rooney rule seemed like fluff to me when it came out but it got Tomlin an interview and he beat out two internal candidates. Has it worked well anytime else? That will be part of the case.

It will be a tough lawsuit as far as the racism allegations, but the current political environment dictates anything can happen. I bet Gooddell applies some pressure to get jobs for at least 2 of the black coaching candidates.

Yep..."racism" is the real pandemic these days...
I posted this back when the NFL started bombarding us with all the politically social justice messages after George Floyd's death. Specifically, I said that instead of lecturing us about the subject why doesn't the NFL ACTUALLY DO something to better the lives of blacks and other minorities, such as hiring them as head coaches and giving them meaningful front office jobs. As a lawyer, I am not making any judgment on Flores' claims until the evidence is heard. However, given the number of black NFL coaches and front office personnel, the optics don't look good for the NFL. Moreover, when Flores says the owner paid him to lose games and tank in order to get better draft picks and the Dolphins flatly deny that, someone is lying.

Hue Jackson, who was hired by the browns after something like an 0 and 12 season, disproves the racism angle to a great degree. How anybody can be hired after a tenure without one win, is beyond me. He is responsible for the Baker Mayfield mistake.

On the other hand, the NFL being woke, will ultimately lie prostate on the ground and give two billion dollars to some sort of social justice advocacy organization. Also, it will increase social justice advocacy messages at its games.

I will say that Flores seems to be an exceptionally good coach. Someone would have definitely hired him in the future. Might be better than the Browns current coach

Flores seems to have joined the CK school of job progression.

Get fired, go super woke, get paid.

Actually, the Giants were very interested in hiring Flores. The Giants also interviewed Leslie Frazier and Patrick Graham (amongst several other candidates), which had already satisfied the Rooney Rule. The Giants head coaching job came down to Daboll and Flores. One Giants owner wanted Flores, the other wanted Daboll, and hiring the new GM from the Bills pushed Daboll ahead of Flores.

Interesting. I fail to see how BB's text denotes racism. I also fail to see how the Dolphins tanking denotes racism. In fact, Miami won two games down the stretch so maybe he was fired for not following orders.

The biggest issue I see on racism is the lack of black head coaches. today, we are down to one. But we've had as many as 8 and one time. It ebbs and flows. And if we are going to dictate race in sports, where are the Asian players and coaches? Ask Woopie Goldberg where the Jews are.

Race is such a difficult issue. In a league dominated with highly paid minority players who got there by outperforming others, why aren't head coaches also selected simply based on performance regardless of race?

Crazy times.

Didn't Flores allegedly stop talking to assistants for a month or two prior to his dismissal? That should be enough to get anyone fired, and I'd be unlikely to hire someone who pulled that kind of move.

Its hard to keep up with all the stories about Flores being rude to staff, front office, players. I'd like to think they weren't true because I thought Flores was a good coach, but he was evidently fired for some reason. That and not making the playoffs in three years.

It sounds to me he is claiming three things:
  1. He was put in an untenable situation (being paid to lose) and would have gotten fired if he lost and then was fired because he didn't lose.
  2. That the BB text shows that he was assured of being named HC but was not chosen due to his race. Others, like the Broncos, just phoned in their interview (although the Broncos have offered up documentation and details of their interviews that are much different than Flores claims).
  3. That he is part of systemic racism on choosing and retaining black coaches across the NFL. Back to #1, he was put in a position that a white coach would not have had to put up with. Today, with five positions open, there is only one black HC (Steelers).

An even better idea. Rather than the NFL players kneeing the the national anthem, why not have them do something useful and go into the cities and the black communities and lecture them about stopping the violence. Kneeling with a captive audience of millions is easy, so they do it, Trying to stem the violence in these cities would take too much precious time off their busy schedules.

Just look at what occurred the past couple of weeks: beautiful girl pushed in front of a subway train, beautiful girl stabbed in the heart while working, nurse sitting on a bench punched in the head and killed, female PO from Illinois shot and killed after begging for her life, two NYPD officers shot and killed.

Six wonderful and productive people murdered, for what reason? Stop the violence in these communities.

You forgot the kid murdered by 20 police officers on the bridge In Nashville.

On Shannon Sharpe show, he quotes Hue Jackson as saying he has his experiences to share in a similar vein. That would be a joke because he should have never been the Browns head coach in the first place. See 2:50 of this video.

I agree...but a lot of them do. I know the Browns are very active and available for such public appearances. Myles Garrett does TONS and doesn't ask for credit, which is probably why people don't hear much about it.

I can explain it, shake down and settlement before more texts are released. But you are correct, no crime committed.

We need a lot more like Garrett in cities such as: Chicago, NY, LA, Portland, Memphis, Atlanta, Baltimore, etc. Even a small city like Trenton who hosted an Arts Festival where 17 people were shot, and a Birthday party at a firehouse where 8 people were shot, a "Freaking Birthday Party."
