After sitting out a month with an ankle injury, Glasnow is back.

Since coming back: 27 Innings, 5 runs on 15 hits 5 walks to 37 strikeouts

Last two games: 13 innings - 0 runs on 4 hits.......0 walks and 16 strikeouts

I would expect he would move on from Altoona to Indy soon.

If he maintains this type of command, he will be in Pittsburgh by next June.

That would be quite a jump From AA to being the number 2 starter in Pittsburgh. I hope the Pirates have another plan to replace AJ. His retirement is going to leave a big hole in the rotation and right now there is no clear cut solution.

He would have one more year in the minors than Garritt Cole at that point. I fully expect him to be with the Pirates next June.

Worley (or some reclamation guy) for the first month or so.......then Taillon or Glasnow (once they get past "super 2" status). I'll take those options in a heartbeat.

When does Tallion pitch in real game action again? Thought his surgery was early last season. Usually 12 months to see game action

Taillon has come back from the TJ surgery.....he was working down in Florida, and just starting to get some "live" work in. Then he had an issue arise with - IIRC - a hernia, which set him back until (probably) around August/September.

So, while it was originally thought he could be back for the 2nd half of this year - from the TJ - the new issue probably sets things up where it now makes sense to hold him back from any time in Pittsburgh until 2016.....and given the Pirates typical way of handling new prospects - they would likely keep him off of the Major League roster until his "super 2" time has elapsed (sometime in May, usually).

The good news is that the TJ recovery would appear to be successful - he was throwing with no problems before the hernia issue - and the hernia issue is not typically any long-term concern.

He just underwent a second surgery for an inguinal hernia last week. Is out for the year. Two years with out pitching . We have no idea on how he has recovered from the TJ surgery,

Thanks, figured there was either a setback or another injury other than the elbow. If he doesn't pitch this year he won't see Pittsburgh until 2017. They'll need to protect him from rule 5 draft at that point too.

Actually NorCalc.....he was back and fully ramped up from the TJ. He was pitching "full go" in Florida.

Now, it certainly would have been nice to see him working at least a few "regular" Minor League games (which he was just about to start doing).....but I do think they saw enough to know the arm was back and sound post-TJ. Barring ANOTHER injury issue (and, hey, with pitchers you never know) I would be VERY surprised if he is not back and ready to go full speed in the Spring.

That said, the rash of injuries to the AAA level starting pitchers this year reinforces the old adage that you NEVER have too much pitching depth.

I dont think Glasnow will be the #2 next year, but basically the same process as Cole a couple years ago. Cole, Liriano, Morton, Glasnow and Locke/Worley would be my bet for the rotation at this point next year. That is if the Pirates dont make a trade for a starter in the next two weeks. Jeremy Hellickson is a guy I wouldnt mind getting if they dont ask for the moon.

I would rather concentrate on this season. We need to add a bat that can play first base or right field. Josh Reddick is an interesting possibility. He hit 32 HR's for Oakland a couple years ago and he wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

I agree on Reddick, I also like Zobrist, Jay Bruce and Ben Revere. Revere could spell all three OF, mostly Polanco and be the leadoff guy. Zobrist could spell every IF position and corner OF. Reddick and Bruce supply pop.

Two words regarding the impact of Glasnow: Remember Palanco Minor league stardom may not translate to major league success.

Not writing him off , but he is not what we expected. Many of the media people who cover the team are. He has regressed
Posters are believing that Taillon & Glaskow will step in and be immediate winners. They could or not. You can't build a winning staff based on what ifs . Neither has pitched in the majors.
