Burroughs vs Valencia event updates/results

I like JB, a lot, but I hope he realizes that ZV would be a distant #3 in the NLWC room.

Zahid was gassed
Agreed. There are 2 things ZV said in his pre-match interviews that he probably wants to walk back about now. First, he disputed that JB's sprint was better than his. JB just laid 8 points on him in the 2nd period to Zahid's 1 point. Second, he said that his plan to become an Olympic and world champ at 86kg is in trouble if he can't even beat the champ at 74kg. Gotta love the self-assurance and drive, but oops.

Just tickling chickenman’s ass with a feather.

Match 6: Anthony Echemendia vs Evan Henderson, 67 kg

Lots of hype around Echemendia. Gotta love his story of making it from Cuba to the US!

Period 1 – Henderson with the TD out of bounds for 2. Echemendia with slick go behind, great defense by Henderson. Both go tumbling out of bounds and Henderson gets 1 for the pushout. Henderson with some very impressive defense. Henderson up 3-0.

Period 2 – Echemendia struggling to get his offense going. Then a sweet low shot. Crazy scramble with weird scoring. Echemendia throws brick. 2 points given to him, 1 to Henderson. Now Henderson throws brick. Loses the challenge. Now Henderson up 4-3 after losing the challenge with 1:30 to go. Henderson with big 4 point move out of bounds!

Final: Henderson wins 8-3
What's going on in Columbus?

District 11 and Buckeye hype balloons deflating
I was actually expecting Henderson to tech Echemendia. Henderson is a really good Senior level wrestler who has a lot of offense. He beat Joey McKenna at Bill Farrell less than a year ago 14-10. The fact that Echemendia was in it at 4-3 with a minute and a half to go is fairly impressive for a true freshman IMO.

I’m grasping for straws given the brutal football season I’m watching.

After finishing out a 17-hour day (It's a shame that youth is wasted on the young) I was just now able to watch the match. I watched it with no audio, and I think I am going to start doing that more often. I found I was less distracted, found watching the match more enjoyable, and I also noticed I was able to much better analyze on the fly what was occurring in the match. I noticed with about 1:55 left in the match that Zahid's body language subtly changed, and I said to myself, "He just got tired." Jordan then started taking advantage of that and the match was over for all intents and purposes. I then watched Zahid's post-match interview, where he said that in the first four minutes he felt good, then he became tired in minutes four through six. I guess the bottom line for me is I am going to start watching more matches with the audio muted. I feel I can trust my wrestling knowledge enough now to not need to listen to the commentators' opinions on my first viewing. I can then watch the match additional times while listening to the commentators, especially Jeff Byers. Gotta' head off to bed as I am starting to nod off! Time to count some sheep. A big shoutout to all of you who make this such an enjoyable Forum to follow. Since 2020 has primarily sucked, one of the few joys I have in life is to live vicariously through all of your experiences, whether real or apocryphal (I must be deliriously tired to pull that word out of my nether regions at 0011 hours!) God Bless, Gaylon 😎 😎

Same! On all that!

But I still openly scoff at mess board pundits asserting Echemendia can either:
a. Actually make the cut to 141 and;
b. Look as fresh, fast, tank-worthy, as he did against Henderson

I suppose it's still possible that Ech is some Cuban branch of the Ruben Valencia bird-bone DNA tree, but count me as extremely scoffy on the matter.
