Hated to read this story. The story is very short on details at this time.

Ryan Joseph, 16, a sophomore at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, has been unable to breathe on his own since the accident on Wednesday and is being treated in the ICU at John Muir Medical Center

"The guy took him down and put him in a hold, and then the ref shook him off and he shook his head like, 'I can't get up' so he just laid there and the ambulance had to come and take him," Adam Samhan, a friend since kindergarten

That's terrible news. So, so sad.

He has a C4 spinal cord injury. He's a sophomore, and was wrestling a JV match at 160.

His father, Tom Joseph, was a hall of fame football player and wrestler at De La Salle HS (Concord, CA). His uncle, Mike Halket, was the wrestling coach at Dublin HS (Dublin, CA).

The injury info and class and the type of match are from a KRON-TV report. This info about his father and uncle is from the Fresno Bee.

Wow, let's all pray that this kid makes a miraculous recovery. This stuff was always my worst nightmare when my own kids were competing. What a horrible thing for all involved.

Thanks for the added info Tom. Any mention as to how such a catastrophic injury occurred? I'm thinking he landed on his forehead and his head either snapped backward or forward.
