And the progression continues. Starting with winning the recruiting battle over the years, to compiling an impressive run of team and individual national champions.

Creating a world class Regional Training Center as a foundation for attracting and developing elite athletes, while teaching them that wrestling is only a small part of life.

And most importantly, assembling a team of leaders who coach our athletes to be great wrestlers and even better humans.

All of this has been showcased over the past 10 years and was displayed in grand fashion over the past couple of weeks at NCAAs and the Olympic Trials.

And as the world watches, including the next generation of elite wrestling talent, it is obvious there is no other program that can fulfill the dreams of aspiring world champions like Penn State. That’s what we do. We are!

Congratulations to Cael and company for allowing us to share this amazing journey. Still much history to be written, but based on the last ten years and the last two weeks, as hard as it is to fathom, I believe the best is yet to come.

What’s foremost when you hear these guys talk is about their priorities of faith, family, and wrestling. They know that when they step inside that room they are consumed with an incredible sense of camaraderie in the pursuit of excellence. They all have a plan and clarity on where they are going and what has to be done to get there. They all are “in the moment” never thinking too far ahead, very grounded, very driven, but very grateful. This peace of mind seems to allow them to compete at a very high level in a relaxed and very focus state while at the same time enjoying what they are doing.

Possibly but my guess is Casey if Cael elevates to the “chairman of his board” as the empire expands in the next five years. Beyond that yes...

Is DT Cael’s predecessor in Happy Valley eventually?
I don’t think there’s anyone in the country that brings Cael’s pedigree and outlook. For example Kyle Dake is very accomplished but god willing he’d never be allowed close to our coaching staff. Not sure if there is someone in our room that could take the reigns. I think it may need to be someone with the highest international and domestic accomplishments... along with a personality that attracts young kids. When I look across the wrestling landscape Jordan Burroughs fits that the best......

... Jordan Burroughs ...
Good thought! I don’t know how the kids see things, but for me Burroughs has a more mature, tone-perfect sensibility than Taylor. Taylor is a bit awkwardly brash on social media in his trash talking or in posting poop videos. :) When I think of David Taylor, I don’t think of someone who has things 100% figured out.

Does John Smith still roll around with the kids?

Wrestling is one sport where the coaching is literally hands-on for many.
I have no idea what John Smith does. I am sure our staff does to some degree. Having RTC training partners helps along with a loaded line-up. When Cael and Co started, yeah, they did all the work.

I would bet there is a women on the NLWC staff for the next Olympic cycle.

Cael's successor is in the room training...

Cael is 41, Casey 44. John Smith is 55. 20 more years then I will worry.
Cody is the brains behind the program if you listen to Quentin Wright. The joke is Cody would have gone to Cornell but he was afraid his brothers couldn’t get in. :). It’s good to see Cody getting some well-deserved props and manning the corner for RBY, Lee and Gilman.

I have been saying it for years,. There are only 3 'marginally acceptable' reasons for an elite kid to pass on coming to happy valley, be taught by the legend, and leverage the excellence NLWC can provide before and after graduation.

1) An Ivy league education
2) To get a 100% full ride at a top 5 program for kids who don't qualify for grants, & don't want to graduate owing $50k+
3) Strong familial ties to another program.

I say marginally acceptable since I truly believe if the ultimate objective is to become the best you can possibly be, there is only one destination.

I just peeked over there.

They’re going to be enraged when Van Ness destroys their guys in college. They’re leaning hard on a freestyle result when Van Ness had hardly done any free
They won an NCAA title and they are still enraged. Winning the NCAA championship for them was like finally sleeping with the Prom Queen, then the next day finding out she had crabs.
