Think about who he didn't wrestle in those two years

2010:
Jenkins, Taylor, Ruth, Wright
2015:
Megaludis, Retherford, Nolf, Nickal, Nevills.

All but Nick have won titles, 4 multiple titles.

Both teams would have made a run in those years, too.

He has been a masterful planner with his personnel. Just one brilliant decision after another. He is truly the greatest coach in the modern sport, just as he was the greatest wrestler in the modern sport. His staff is the best in the nation. His ROOM is the best in the nation. He hand picks his wrestlers based on how they work in his system: It is not, in any way, similar to what the haters keep yelling about, how it's all recruiting.

It isn't.

Cael recruits a specific, SPECIFIC kind of wrestler for his program. Then, when they arrive, they are welcomed into the family and the culture, and from there, they are developed better, FAR BETTER, than any other room in the country. This is why we are great.

He recruits a family. It starts with each wrestlers family.

Would love to hear their comments on the PSU way.

in 8 years at PSU cael has seen 16 kids (20%) become title winners, 27 into the finals (34%) and 43 have become AA (54%). In addition he has qualified >80% of his wrestlers to the NCAA tournament.

in his 11 year coaching career he has coached 18 individual titles and 58 AAs.

PS- he is only 37yo w 6 team titles too

Cool! In other words, even ignoring the program's upward trajectory, every year we can expect 2 national champs, 3.4 finalists, 5.4 all-Americans, and 8+ qualifiers.

I sat next to Cortez's parents at the Army match. They were thrilled with their son being at Penn State - very enthusiastic with a lot of great things to say about the staff and other wrestlers. Before the match I had a brief conversation with Suriano's dad. More of the same.
