Cael's postmatch thoughts

Not really. Won a few but lost to unranked Tony Dallago (0-2 at NCAAs that season of Illinois, got majored by Steinhaus (8th at NCAAs that season) of Minnesota, and got pinned by Travis Rutt (7th at NCAAs that season) of Wisconsin. Pretty awesome improvement from Q in the last 2 weeks of the season to win BIGs and he did it by beating Rutt in the quarter finals, Dallago in the semi finals and Steinhaus in the finals.
You gotta think Jammen was talking serious Steinhaus trash back in the day

Definitely curious about the lineup change comment. We all know Cael is notoriously guarded with the media. For him to make that comment, to me suggests something might be happening soon. Who knows what?
I'm just asking so please no blow back. Did I see Beard at the match Friday night? And if so has that been the case all season? Him traveling I mean. Thought maybe we'd see him at the Edinboro tourney but to me it seems strange that theyd rather have him travel instead of wrestle..

Yes, Beard was suited up Friday. My read is that he is being entered "into the motions" in case Contingency Plan C has to be implemented.

You did.

Cael has done this before with other guys, expose them to the routine and environment of big road matches before they need to compete in them.

Quentin Wright says hi.
Was Quentin Wright coming back from a pretty significant injury at the time of his struggles? Also pretty sure that at the time Wright didn't have the long injury history that Rasheed current does. Finally, talent-wise Wright was on a different tier than Rasheed.

Other than that, it's a decent comparison.

Allowed 3 "extras" for travel to away duals, for single away dual weekends, 5 "extras" when there are two away duals, such as next weekend. The 2-dual weekends are infrequent - once, maybe twice each season.

Others were right on. We can take Beard traveling as a reward for doing things right, a way to get him used to the rigors of the Big Ten (and some of the arenas we wrestle in), among other reasons.

Completely hypothetical and unrelated but if Berge does get back in there and finishes the season 5-0 to get in the coaches rank. With his win earlier against Humphreys, would that qualify him for bronze standard?
Bronze Standard is determined after the conference tourneys, and opens up to six (6) criteria. If anyone has five bouts in after their conference tourney, they shall have a Coaches Ranking. The Humphreys win would be Berge's second criteria, as the Lehigh wrestler will surely earn the EIWA a slot. Best if he has more going for him than that, so finishing the Big Ten tournament one placement spot below automatic qualification would be huge.

All is predicated on Berge going of course, which isn't yet a done deal, even though we're hearing some cautiously optimistic news.

Yes, dislocated shoulder at the Nittany Lion Open the first week in December that season. I don;t remember Q having any other significant injuries prior to that.

Yep. I don't see any comparison. Q was a gifted wrestler, healthy, and at his correct weight class. Shak is a very good but not as gifted wrestler, wrestling up a weight class, not in top shape, and injured.

I'll take cautiously optimistic. Thanks for the info Roar.

Also nobody is hoping Shak can be as good as Q. People are hoping Shak can be as good as Shak.

Using Q against Shak is more than a little silly.
