Caleb Williams entering the portal

Wouldn’t it be awesome if Micah Bowens becomes OU’s starting quarterback next year and leads them to a potential College Football Playoff berth? There is still a lot of talent at OU.

Franklin pursued Williams pretty hard when he was coming out of H.S.

Hope he wants to get closer to home and Franklin can get him. There are very few transfers that could put a starting QB like Clifford on the bench, but Caleb Williams is surely one of them.

If the Allar/Pribula/Veilleux era is going to get pushed back a year, may as make it two years and actually have a talent that can take it to the house!

I don't believe Williams would push Allar out the door. Williams is a big time talent, played as a true freshman in 2021, and he'll likely only play 2 more seasons of college football..........

Would be great to get in a scenario if he only had 1 more year of eligibility. I don’t really want him to potentially impact our incoming FR QBs

UCF's Dillon Gabriel bailed on UCLA to go to Oklahoma apparently so yeah...apparently you can portal and then bounce around for a while lol

That’s the thing. If Caleb came here, then Allar is gone. Maybe Villeaux too. Caleb has 3 years of eligibility left.
Couldn't Caleb declare for the draft after next season? Assuming he has a good year he's probably gone anyway. And probably doesn't affect Allar.

Why does anyone assume Caleb Williams will stay in a program for 3 years and not graduate and/or opt out in 2 years. What decade are we in?
During his HS recruitment, Caleb's dad already said he's only staying three years in college. That's been very clear, as are the family's expectations.

{Carl asked each school in the text for a “specific and holistic program” that illustrates how Caleb can become “the 1st pick in the 2024 NFL draft.” Williams said he’d like that to include the school showcasing everything from “development of ability to read multiple defensive fronts” to “some pro-style under-center game stuff, not all spread” and “QB-specific sports science.”}

Well Franklin doesn't have a prayer then.

I guess in the future when kids declare, each hat can represent one of the schools they will attend in their 3-4 year college career....but only have to 'decide' on the first one. While agreeing to some extent what's going on is a reasonable and overdue trend in favor of the player, when coupled with a lack of family and individual values/character it can become a mess for everyone. I watched part of the Netflix QB1 series with the former Oklahoma starter, and caught some of their games before he was demoted for Williams. Besides his performance, or lack of, it seemed the team quit on him. To me, even in high school, he looked like a Mayfield or the 'Tate' kid that bounced around a few years back, athletic but slightly built with a so-so arm who could produce against the best competition at each level if most things went his way.....like Mayfield last night against the Steelers. Coupled with how they rose back up for Williams, there were some not so good dynamics going on. Wonder how their respective teams will play for each next year, and for how long. Football has and will continue to be a game of adjustment, for most everyone....and it for the most part is a team sport.

Honestly , I'm losing interest in the game.

1. He isn't coming to Penn State
2. We have to hope like hell he goes to USC as we don't need him sipping the Locksley Kool-Aid. We need them to have NO MOMENTUM ever.

As much as I wish Clifford had moved on, what does it do to team cohesion when the recruits get jumped in line by portal transfers. When Ebikete came in to the program there were obviously depth issues at DE due to injury, so I conjecture there was acceptance into team. However, If players on the team feel one of their teammates is ready and he gets bumped from his opportunity by a transfer, I think team cohesion can be lost. It is a difficult psychological task...gaging a transfers impact on overall team attitude.

If Williams moves on, then I am hearing

1. UGa
2. aTm
3. UCLA
4. Florida
5. Tennessee

or a return to OU could also happen

But all of this is conjecture.
I don't see Williams returning to OU, especially since OU just accepted a commitment last night from a transfer portal QB who is looking for a sure-fire starting position in 2022.

That swings both ways. Do the players like Williams give a shit if they're on the team one year and bolt, even if not passed up by other recruits? Nope. Pretty obvious they dont. So piss on them. The players demanded money and free agency. They got it.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that the faster college football in its current state folds up and goes away the better. I'm talking stop playing college ball altogether for at least a few years. All D1 schools. Pull all NIL deals, scholarships, the whole 9 yards. Disband the current useless NCAA. The whole system needs rebuilt to normalize salaries (players and coaches), scholarships, etc. Make a set of amicable rules players and schools can live with. The schools that don't like it can go do their own thing.

Supposedly Georgia has offered a 5 million NIL DEAL and he is going to the highest bidder.

I highly disagree about the highest bidder, it's all about draft position.. Did you read the article I linked about his Dad above? NIL money is peanuts to draft position. From the article:

"Carl Williams’ goal, essentially, is to be sure that his son maximizes his prolific talent. He knows that there’s a $20 million difference between being the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft and the No. 15 pick, and he wants to be sure his son is in the best position to snare a salary like Kyler Murray’s $35 million.

“You go to college to get prepared for your next job, right?” Carl Williams said. “So if there's a $20 million gap between being a janitor at here and being a janitor at that hotel across the street, hell I want to be the same janitor at the hotel across the street. It's the same thing. There's such a disparity in money. Who could prepare the kid to be the best?”

Once the coaches started getting greedy and hopping ffrom job to job - contract be damned - for megabucks, there was no valid reason for the players not to have the same freedoms.

I'm all for scrapping the NCAA and starting over - without the hypocrisy. I have long advocated having the players run college football as a club sport, for instance.

I think the NIL deals are here to stay, though, because they provide an end-run around some thorny Title IX type issues. Players from the revenue sports can get NIL deals based on their marketability (has worked for some women's hoops players too), whereas if the colleges just gave athletes a salary, they would probably have to pay all athletes in all sports the same to avoid discrimination issues.

While I don't disagree with with much of Caleb's dad's comments, I will say that being a great pro and getting to be a top pick is more up to the individual himself, not a coach or situation. You either have it or you don't.
Mac Jones was a one year starter, the GOAT Tom Brady sat behind Drew Henson before only being a starter for year and a half and didn't set the world on fire. A lot can be learned being in a situation that doesn't seem ideal on the face.
I think what is being taken for granted here is that grass isn't always greener and the greatest coaching in the world doesn't always make a player better or give them a better opportunity. Just as they though the Oklahoma situation was perfect a year ago, poof it became unperfect in moments notice. The kid supplanted a Heisman favorite in like 5 games and he still isn't happy with his trajectory. Will any situation make him happy?
Does Caleb think his game is so weak that he needs a certain type of coaching to maximize his potential? That would be my question.

OK, this is just getting ridiculous.

I’m actually glad this offer is out there. There is no way he takes the deal, but if he did, it would show what his dad said is not necessarily the truth.

yeah, though in his dad's defense, nil (which this may not even be) did not exist at the time of that statement.

The Portal needs a window.

1. Professional Free Agency has windows , so why shouldn't this. The window is always open but closes 2nd week of January. Therefore you could portal in October and take two months to look or you can portal after the bowl and take two weeks to flirt.

2. Imagine how much fun that window would be. We would then get a crazy signing day in December, Free Agency in January, and the original Signing Day in February.

Batch knows there is no way that Caleb will go there. But Batch just got massive amounts of free publicity for his company. Smart guy......

Agree. I mean right now a player can put their name in portal at anytime, at least that is the way I understand it. Basically opens door to any university to start reaching out and recruit them for weeks or months until said player makes up their mind.
