Was listening to a podcast this morning (Rupert). He interviewed Cam Wood, AA State champ at 220. He recently committed to Lycoming College even though he had Div 1 offers. Wood mentioned that Jake Varner contacted him from Penn State, couldnt offer any money, but more of a preferred walk on type thing. I was interested in why he made his choice over multiple Div 1 offers. He mentioned that he was very firmiliar with Crebb's obviously. Also, he got his offers late and due to the Rona he didnt get to take any visits.

Depending on your financial and academic situation, D3 "offers" can be more financially attractive than D1 offers.

Additionally, although there are many that don't really get this, perspective matters. Wrestling isn't always the driving factor. Picking the right school that offers the most of what your looking for - wrestling, degree, setting, geography, etc. - that's what is important. For 99+ percent of wrestlers, wrestling is a path leading to a non-wrestling future. The lessons along the way may be valuable but it's rare to be on the mat after 22 for most all these guys.

Definitely, not saying it was a bad or a wrong choice, just unusual. I was interested to here him talk about. Lots of guys end up there after finding out that the Div 1 route isnt for them. Cool to see a kid realize that up front and act on it.
