Campbell improved its NCAA point total by 350% from 2018 to 2019 (3.5 pts, 45th place). Seriously though, Campbell did have a great season placing a school record six wrestlers into the NCAA Championships. Head Assistant Coach Mike Evans was almost impressed. The Camels had an abbreviated dual schedule going 7-1 with their only loss coming against UT-Chattanooga. They didn’t have any ranked teams on their schedule. Campbell placed 5th at the Navy Classic, 24th at Cliff Keen and 10th at Midlands. The Camels edged out Appalachian State 95 to 92.5 for their 2nd SoCon championship in three years.
Campbell should improve upon their success with all six of last year’s qualifiers returning. In addition, two former qualifiers (Perez and Heino) are coming back from redshirt seasons and another former qualifier (Mason Smith) transferred in. Campbell has already released their 18/19 schedule which features a much more difficult dual schedule than last season. In addition to the other 6 SoCon teams, Campbell’s schedule includes Harvard, Ohio, Oregon State, Iowa State, Arizona State and Pitt. Their tournaments include the Navy Classic, Reno and Midlands.
