Carter officially returning!

Last match on Saturday night..Star vs AJ. Theoretically could be most amped up final since Taylor/Dake

Hopefully AJ can get on that mat and not be a clown again this coming year
Unless he's wrestling a set of weights on Thursday and Friday there's no way Ford Escort makes the finals.

Got a comment from a friend who is allied to another D1 program. He thinks it is unfair that Carter gets the only chance anyone will ever have to be a 5X NCAA champion. He does have a point although you can't blame Carter for jumping on an opportunity that is made possible because of the decisions of others. It was the hastily adopted Covid rules that brought about the circumstances. I wonder how the Birdman and other rabid Iowa fans are reacting to the news.
Carter is going to share #5 with Cenzo and Hall

5 years in a sport isn't new, but it is new when the athlete is a 4 timer. It's a special little situation that I would have been okay with either option (come back or not). Carter very clearly is a special athlete physically and mentally and I am not surprised he wants to be the first (maybe ever) 5 timer.

100s of wrestlers had the chance to be 5 timers.

I agree the COVID year is F'd up. Especially when you consider that Hall and Cenzo got only 3 chances. I'm guessing 83% of the transfers are guys trying to cash in on their extra year. Carter just happens to be in a position to benefit the most possibly.

I can't blame any of them, but hopefully, the portal will calm down once the 6th year ends.

Specifically, AJ Ferrari. Total divergence since their respective true freshman titles. It is moments like this when I truly appreciate Starocci’s sustained excellence and dominance, not to mention how much Albert has squandered over the last 3/4 years.

Out of conference bout? Ok State is the only one I can figure that would be able to sell it out.
Only chance of a sell-out is if they do what Iowa did and have it before a football game. Then, though, it's less about the opponent, and more probably about the weather, the football team's hope-o-meter that late-season, etc. We have the Buckeyes at home on Nov 2, which is the safest weekend weather-wise. I'd guess that.

Not only did Bruce have an exemplary record as an athlete; he's served in multiple administrative and executive positions since the end of his career.

Burroughs has a long way to go to match what Baumgartner did FOR wrestling. Maybe he'll transition to coaching/admin/executive positions. Time will tell.
I totally agree how many yrs did BB rule the heayweights? MANY MANY

Every true freshman in 2021 had the same opportunity. CStar is the only one who had the talent to take advantage of that opportunity.

If AJ could prove to Iowa AD Beth Goetz that he isn't nor will become a huge and ungodly embarrassment to the university, by the time the NCAA finals rolls around Carter will have dominated AJ in the dual and Big10s. If AJ Ferrari were to double bird his way into the championship finals the only section of the wrestling population who will still find the outcome a mystery are the delusional idiots watching from the GIA ward in Carver.

Tell your friend that dozens of true freshman took the mat nationally the year Carter was a freshman. All of them had an opportunity. Only one of them won an NC that year.

It seems unfair that a couple dozen 3 timers were not allowed to wrestle as freshman in college, and they aren’t considered “greatests “ because they only won 3.

Put an asterisk by it. Who cares. He will still have 5. (Provided he wins)

Two true freshmen won a title at 2021 NCAAs. One of them just subsequently imploded.

Didn't Uncle Carmine's nephew win that year too? Unfortunately, he squandered the opportunity to get dominated by Brooks and Dean (sounds like a country band) the past few years.

I stand corrected. And Carter still stands.

The "he's the only one with an opportunity for 5 titles" narrative is going to be short lived when the NCAA is sued for applying arbitrary limits on eligibility.

Now that these guys are making big money legally, somebody is going to take this to court. "As long as I'm a college student, why shouldn't I be able to play NCAA sports as well?"

as if arbitrary limits aren't all around us already except, curiously, term limits for (most) politicians and judges

LOL 2 of the best ever it would be a great match and think it would be very close!
TWO of the best ever??? With AB winning 4 national titles and then beating the defending World and Olympic champion to make the US Olympic team, he just might fall into that category.

AJ, on the other hand, won only one NCAA title and has subsequently squandered his career through a combination of reckless and anti-social behavior.

And let's not forget that in 2002, Iowa State had a pretty decent guy competing at the same weight class as AB and AJ.

Burroughs did a lot by the way he spoke and represented USA wrestling. Bruce was not nearly as prolific of a speaker.

LOL I fixed my mistake I wouldn't want to see Ferraro wrestling anyone!
