I'm not saying that he's not a very good player. However, I would bet that there are several defense ends who put up better stats than he did this season; I thought that the one Auburn defensive end was the best defensive player whom I saw this year. However, he was the product of the Fox hype machine when Gus Johnson did the first OSU-Wisconsin game. Moreover, how can a kid be rewarded like this when he was suspended for two games? That'll show him.
I agree it's disappointing. Then again, Jameis Winston was awarded the Heisman. Chase won't be.I'm not saying that he's not a very good player. It's very illustrative when you realize that Navy is honoring a true scholar athlete this weekend, Roger Staubach, through their uniforms. How times have changed for the worse.

I think you should re-read my post in context. If it helps, the prior poster was speaking to the message the Downtown Club is giving by including Chase Young in the Heisman ceremony despite being suspended for breaking the rules. I pointed out Winston as precedent for showing the Downtown Club doesn't care about that message. It included a player with far more serious character concerns and awarded him the trophy. Please tell me you're not comparing Chase Young (who took money from a family member, that he PAID BACK, so he could fly his GF to his bowl game) to Jamis Winston (who was accused of raping a woman)?
I'm so sure if Chase Young whore blue and white instead of scarlet and gray or if it was Penn State's Antonio Shelton that was a finalist for the Heisman, you'd fill the same. LOL.
Bottom line is that some of you people are just so full of HATE when it comes to anyone who does not wear blue and white that it’s sad. The fact of the matter is you’re no different than the douchebag fans who refer to Penn State as "Ped-State". Don’t fool yourself by saying you are; you’re not.
Personally I don’t get it. Maybe it’s from all the Sandusky BS we all have had to endure. Maybe it’s because you are so entrenched in all things Penn State that it has blinded your judgment. Maybe you're just so jealous that's it not Penn State. Either way you let your emotions become distortedly out of proportion when dealing with mistakes made by COLLEGE ATHLETES. Now I’m not talking “Jamis Winston’s mistakes”. But when it comes to what Chase Young did… give me a break. The kid made a mistake, owned up to it, APOLOGIZED, paid the price, and now is back. Yet some of you still want him to be punished, taking this once in a lifetime experience away from him, just to satisfy your own insecurities.
So sad.
Ok, how about this...in two of their biggest games Chase Young was completely nonexistent therefore he should not be invited to the Heisman ceremony....you know, like when Barkley got overlooked because of a couple of “poor” games (but only when they didn’t count his receiving and return yards). At least Barkley still played well in those games, Young did next to nothing against Michigan and Wiscy. Is that okay to feel he shouldn’t be invited to the Heisman ceremony? Does that meet your disagreement criteria or is it just hate too?I'm so sure if Chase Young whore blue and white instead of scarlet and gray or if it was Penn State's Antonio Shelton that was a finalist for the Heisman, you'd fill the same. Say what you will, but "hate" has nothing to do with this. You are trivializing the word "hate" when you do that.I'm so sure if Chase Young whore blue and white instead of scarlet and gray or if it was Penn State's Antonio Shelton that was a finalist for the Heisman, you'd fill the same. LOL.

He didn’t really pay the price for it, that’s kind of the argument. And I’m not buying the story they’re trying to sell. I’m not sure how naive or dumb someone has to be to believe it.That's not the issue/argument. You have every right to be of the opinion that Chase Young is NOT a Heisman finalist because of his play on the field. LIKE I DO. But to want a kid not to be a Heisman finalist because of a mistake he made, that he paid the price for, well shame on you.
That would make as much sense as not having Barkley as a finalist...oh wait.If the Heisman is an award for the best CFB player you can’t have that award and Chase Young not be a finalist. It wouldn’t make any sense.

The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. The winners of the trophy epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. The Heisman Trophy Trust’s mission is to ensure the continuation and integrity of this award.....hmmmmmmm
So you're writing a general statement to all of us about why we feel the way we do on so many of these type matters. And you don't get it. Perhaps you are unaware of the last 50 years of being crapped on by the media and the public, and that started long before Sandusky. Myself and many others are just tired of the hypocrisy that exists and seems to be getting worse. This is all factual, not just crazed fans believing in a conspiracy against PSU. Other schools and players break rules left and right and it has no bearing on anything, and they are still rewarded, either by an honor or a large, lucrative contract. Or no sanctions, loss of scholarships etc. Sorry you don't seem able to see all this.
We’ve been screwed more than any other program in terms of national championships. We’ve also been screwed in terms of Heisman winners (Carter, Johnson, Barkley). But we shouldn’t get mad when another program who doesn’t get screwed beats the system yet again. It’s kind of funny some of our fans lecture us about that.So you're writing a general statement to all of us about why we feel the way we do on so many of these type matters. And you don't get it. That’s quite a stretch to make a ridiculous point. I know quite a few players who didn’t cheat. You have no idea what the timeline was for McDuffie so you’re assuming a lot.I guess you messed the part where I said some of you: "Bottom line is that some of you people are just so full of HATE ...."
As for other schools breaking the rules and get away with it. They ALL BREAK THE RULES and get away with it.
TRUE STORY: I'm at the G-Man on Saturday night in January of 1993. Not exactly sure of the date but Penn State's season had just ended (lost to Standford in the Blockbuster Bowl) so it couldn't have been more than two weeks. As i'm sitting at the corner of the bar, closest to the double doors, and a brand new GMC Syclone pulls directly out front and out steps OJ McDuffie. Again, the season couldn't have been over for more than two weeks and here's OJ McDuffie with a brand new 40K truck. It didn't take more than an hour before word got around the bar that his agent bought it for him.
Now we all know that the NCAA prohibition any talks or agreements with agents until after the last game of the season. And being that the season was over McDuffie technically did nothing wrong by accepting the truck. But you'd have to be "naive or dumb" if you believe McDuffie had not had some type of communication with his agent before Penn State's season was over. Like I said: They ALL BREAK THE RULES and get away with it.
By the way... you can call me a lier... BSer... all you want. I was there and the story is true. (By the way.... to be specific... it was a white GMC Syclone!)

Wait. Since you were one of few remaining CFB fans to still believe (or assume incorrectly) the loan was from a family member, do you still think it doesn't matter who the lender was? You know, the one with money to lend who befriended a prized 5* recruit after he signed with OSU? You know, so his girlfriend could do with an athlete what most college coeds could only dream of doing? That's not the issue/argument. And let’s not forget the punishment for what he did is four games...but the NCAA bent their own rules to let him play early. Only a handful of schools would have received that treatment.Wait. Do you not notice variations between programs when it comes to rules, enforcement and things related to integrity ? Chase Young this year, Urban Meyer lying about his wife-battering assistant last year? "Not playing school?" Tressel and tattoogate? Gamesmanship around Fields' waiver that few other players and programs (not named Michigan) received? The timely suspension with NCAA taking a quick appeal, reducing the penalty just in time for the PSU v. OSU game, even where the rule has clear monetary guidelines they'd already concluded were broken?
To be fair, much of the above has nothing to do with Young personally. Mush as to do with OSU and the NCAA. Young might be a great kid at an institution where rules are flexible. But do you seriously find no cause for questions surrounding integrity given this pattern as the identity of the "family friend" remains a mystery?
Last sentence of second paragraph. And let’s not forget the punishment for what he did is four games...but the NCAA bent their own rules to let him play early. Only a handful of schools would have received that treatment.
Great minds and all that.Last sentence of second paragraph.
So to bolster your point that PSU has always cheated, you cite a player in a new car 2 weeks after the bowl game? WTF sense does that make? I lived w/ a guy who played 12 seasons in the NFL when he was a senior. He got an advance and bought a Bronco before he was drafted. Before that, I gave him rides or he took the bus. He missed out on all the cheating I guess.TRUE STORY: I'm at the G-Man on Saturday night in January of 1993. I may have posted this before but I am willing to bet that after the playoffs and Young is selected early in the draft and signs his big contract, additional information will come out which confirms his college eligibility should not have been restored. Anyone other than die hard Bucknut fans want to take the other side of that bet?
