Clarion Open

125 a crapshoot this year. I give a healthy Howard just as good as shot as anyone in this field.

How was Bouzakis ranked 8th? He was on redshirt last year and the only time I saw him wrestle he got mauled by kid from Virginia Tech
That match was up at 141 so they probably disregarded that, other than that he was undefeated and beat Biscoglia who made the blood round

I think that match was at 141 but you are right. Not sure why he was ranked so high. Barely had any results last year. Just looked and he was 8-1 last year. Big name though and he placed at worlds so that might be why

What’s everyone’s take on Feldman? I was pretty high on him coming out of hs but I’ve cooled on him a bit. I think he’s a low AA at best this season. Am I underselling him?

Santa absolutely housed Bouzakis on their feet. 3 TD- 0

Cannon a true freshman from Colorado. He has been really good but seems to have jumped a level in college already. The wrestle off between him and Mendez was closer than expected
Canon was very good in at Wyoming Seminary before he got cancer and basically lost 2 years to it. He was like top 15-20 overall in his class at one time.

Hard to say but he was already beating these NCAA level NQ's when he was a HS senior. His neck surgery definitely set him back or at least stopped his development.

He was never going to be better than Kerk, Hendrickson, Davison, Schultz, and Elam. So that caps him at 6th, 7th if Cass returns.

He was better than Pitzer in HS, and while Pitzer is definitely improved now, that still puts Feldman in the low AA/R12 range.

I didn't see the finals, but Feldman's opponent went 1-2 at D2 Nationals last year (with both losses by bonus). You'd think Feldman would've put it on him. Wondering if Feldman wore down. That would definitely be a factor in his placement in March.

Went back and watched Blaze/Ramos. Blaze's scrambling is second to none, really impressive! Especially when considering he's still a HSer.

Question for the group. With 1:00 left in OT, Ramos had Blaze up on his shoulder. He looked like he was trying to trap the low leg to complete the TD. Blaze clung to Ramos, and Ramos threw himself straight back and dumped Blaze on his head. Blaze didn't really seem phase by it, as he kept wrestling through, but it seemed like it could have been called an illegal slam. I'm glad it wasn't, because it would have sort of tarnished Blaze's win, but I've seen far less than that called. Thoughts?

Yup, was the most impressive HS kid in the tournament. He has really made some strides lately. When he gets to a leg, he finishes. That really wasn't a strength of his in the past.
Interesting kid. You'd think getting caught twice coming in on consecutive takedown attempts would shake someone a bit. Very tough mentally and a no-quit motor. He always avenges losses too. Really good at game-planning, I'm sure his Dad helps with that.

Great question.
No slam in my opinion.
I think Ramos took it too easy on the kid during the match and it bit him in the ass.

He will not stack up well against the NCAA elite.

Blaze was at PSU a few weeks ago but literally the entire Ohio State team was in his corner against ramos

Rocco Welsh (red shirting) and Jesse Mendez were really the only 2 kids who looked good today. D'amilio, paddy gahleger looked ok, Karchla Tweaked his knee and honestly the rest looked to be on the Ohio State descent plan.. not impressed

It was nice to see Sammy today tho. Medical waiver and Olympic shirt gives him 2 years to recover, but I honestly don't think he will. I know it hasn't been very long but he was really struggling by 6pm and for the last 2.5 hours of the tournament.

Beating the guy who beat the sixth place finisher at NCAA not really note worthy.
After an offseason of one unprecedented disappointment after another, Iowa has to endure its first in season kick in the nuts!😉 Having the guy who pinned their self proclaimed “GOAT “ get beat by a high schooler has to be extremely embarrassing, at the very least.

Maybe he will and maybe he won't -- but what exactly did you expect?

Him being there at all is remarkable. And if he's struggling in the last few rounds, Ryan yet again ran out of lunger bricks.

That is called a slam every weekend in HS.
You leave your feet AT ALL during the mat return and by the book it is a slam.

Im glad it wasnt called and really glad Blaze didnt fake an injury. Also it is perfectly legal in everything except folk.

Show me in the rule book where it states what you wrote please.

And you know that this was a college wrestling tournament, right?

Some of the refs that were in Clarion shouldn't have even been there or even in a HS gym.. lol the one ref was way more interested in pissing off Jaggers then he was even watching the match.

Yeah. you're underselling Feldman if you don't think he'll be elite soon. This was his first tournament of any kind since JR Worlds last year. He's going to be. For reference - Carl was absolutely obsessed with him. Never stopped recruiting him until he officially committed. I'd say he's "next." Not good enough to beat Kerk or Hendrickson this year - but will likely be the guy after. He's unbelievably athletic.

Blaze dove for the ankle while he was being returned to the mat.

Ramos didn't drive his opponents head area into the mat.

I see Feldman having trouble with more than Just Kerk and Hendrickson, I think he will have trouble with the majority of the top 10. I make this call on watching his match against Meyers from Clarion who was a horse.

This first few days of the college season was wild.
I didn’t get to watch at all yesterday. Just getting caught up.
Feldman is really good! Rocco Welsh looked tough. 125 and 133 were the deepest weights with the most nationally ranked. I was pumped to see some D4 make their debuts. Wirnsberger did well and made the semis. Scott Johnson looked sharp early then Basset tf’d him in the second. Scottie bounced back and beat Witmer. Nasedo and Hayden both had glimpses of progress

Blaze and Bassett blew my mind. Let’s get all this straight, the Spencer Lee gets decked by Ramos. Then Ramos comes out this year as the #1 and loses to a HS kid. Blaze has great shot defense but doesn’t score much. Extreme talent and would great in blue and white. Bassett beats two kids who beat Bouzakis is again blowing my mind. Nic was labeled world beater coming out of HS. I still think he is very good and will AA this year. Spent a year in the college room and takes fourth at the Clarion open where a HS kid wins it. I guess Gonzalez had him in deep waters at the wrestle off and Basset beat him 11-1. tOSU was thinking they would see that Nic/Gonzalez match again.

The greatest recruiting class ever is going to take a hit if Nic B doesn’t improve significantly at folk
