Aaron Brooks And Will Lewan Break Into Top-10
This was not an easy big board to do. Aaron Brooks has thrust himself to the forefront of the conversation of best prospects in this class. Gable Steveson is basically locked into Number One, but there is a real conversation to be had about the second overall recruit.Ultimately, after factoring in Travis Wittlake's win over Brooks, as well as the landscape of 184 moving forward, Wittlake moves into the No. 2 spot. Brooks' Fargo and Cadet world title runs, combined with the fact that he is very clearly not a finished product, puts him third overall.
We were a little harsh to David Carr after his UWW Junior Open loss to Joe Lee, but his run at UWW Junior Trials and Fargo proved he deserves to be back in the Top-5, along with National Prep champ Michael Beard. Will Lewan slots in at eighth after his Cadet World title.
It has been over a year since Gavin Teasdale had a big win, and there are some questions about which weight he goes in college.
With Lewan and Brooks having superior credentials at Cadet Worlds, Teasdale drops to No. 9. Michael Beard and Gavin Hoffman will settle the top 197lb prospect at Who's Number One, and along with Jacori Teemer and Mason Parris round out the Top-10.
Perhaps it is recency bias, but not seeing Parris since FloNationals as well as going over his resume again warranted him going down to 6th.
Mitch Moore emerges as the top recruit at 141 and Pat Glory at the top of the heap at 125. Joey Silva and Lewan are the highest rated tandem of prospects committed to a school that isn't Penn State.
Zach Elam is a big mover after winning Fargo and slotting him in as a 197, he rockets up from 82nd to 31st overall. Peyton Robb and Alex Lloyd continue to make strides and give South Dakota State two recruits in the Top-21 of this class.
As always, it is important to remember that the Big Boards are different than the weight class rankings. Wins and losses certainly matter, but these are meant to be a projection after high school. Being a top recruit includes factors like big wins, body of work, consistency, grades, work ethic, upside, and many more.
