Super 32. October 12th-13th

My friend was down there. Said Bachman is a full court press. Hutcherson lost but very impressive for a freshmen. He said he wasn’t surprised to see all the coaches flocking to Forest and Bo’s mats.
Full court press on Fred Bachmann I agree. Hutcherson is a 15 year old freshman at 175 wrestling some fully grown seniors and looked tough

My Super 32 observation;

Cunningham looked phenomenal and will keep getting better in the PSU room. Future AA

It was good to see Dalton Perry have a strong run.

Curious how hard PSU is going after Michael Mocco?

Fred Bachmann is a must get and Mario Hutcherson is one of our future greats at upper weight. Both are class of 2028.

Bassett/Zepeda may have been the best Super 32 final ever.

Jason Nolf was coaching Cade Ziola in the semis. Wonder what the connection is? Did PSU recruit Ziola? He is a Nebraska recruit.

I was watching a different angle of Bo's OT TD against Zepeda and saw that he tried Nolf's Winn Dixie. Bo was able to get just enough leverage by hooking his right leg underneath Zepeda's right armpit, roll through and gain an advantageous enough position to hold Zepeda on his back and get the TD. I love seeing different camera angles of matches and being able to re-watch sequences. Wrestling is such a fast sport that it is so easy to miss details on the first viewing. The match video below starts at the beginning of the TD sequence.

Grove City/Bad Karma’s Chase Karenbauer- coached by former PSU wrestler, Wes Phipps, and current PSU dad, Mark Steen- beat a 2024 U17 World teamer and two 2024 Pan Am freestyle gold medalists just to place 7th - Super 32 is a meat grinder.
Karenbauer beat Keegan Bassett in the 7/8th place match. He is tough.

Zepeda looked pretty good against Bassett. Cormier is putting out some good talent at Gilroy since he took the reins of the program.

Nolf coached Ziola last year at S32 as well, not sure what the connection is. CJ Caines is a young PA wrestler that impresses me.

Caines had a great weekend. He is a tricky wrestler it looks like. He was a little out of his league with Bachmann but the kid had a great weekend.

What's everyone thinking about Asher these days? He's so much fun to watch. He competes like he's play wrestling, and just trying stuff. Seems to let guys get to his legs, and then tries to figure out how to turn it into his own points. I can't help but think if he dialed things in just a smidge, and was more fundamentally sound, he could turn into an unstoppable force. But maybe he should just keep developing his own unique style and it will eventually not matter.

I'm sure Casey has thoughts (that he probably keeps to himself). I've been watching Asher compete since he was pretty young, and it's been fun to watch him jump levels. Will he make the starting lineup for PSU? Will he win titles if he does? I say Maybe and Yes, but it's just a gut feeling.

We have an insane amount of talent at his likely weight range. Whoever emerges, will do well.

Totally agree. He's at weight classes where if you make the lineup, you will be beating out national title contenders in the room and will be one yourself.

Asher will definitely have to learn some baseline defense, he loves defending from the danger zone, which is okay in HS. But the kid has jumped major levels the last year and won some big big tournaments. He is #6 on Willie's 165 ranking and has wins over Perentin and just beat Bambinelli (2 and 5) Others ahead of him are PJ Duke (anyone heard of him?) Joseph Antonio (2nd at S32 2023 157) and Aaron Stewart (Fargo Champ)

I would expect him to greyshirt and spend time at NLWC before enrolling, similar to what Hayden did.

How bad do we think Blaze would beat Vega and PJ would beat Will Denny? Do these guys not enter these events cause they won’t get any competition? Blaze vs jax would always be a good match.

Lots of the kids who wrestled at WNO didn’t compete at super. How did elder Bachman lose twice. He is so tough. That shows you how good USA is. Look at young mocca he lost to a pa boy after dominating worlds.

I am surprised at the number of kids that do wrestle at this event, seems like to many matches over a weekend and with kids getting great competition from all the other events this seems like an easy one to pass on. I just don't see the benefit when top kids have better options without having to wrestle 7 or 8 matches over a weekend

What is Duke's incentive to wrestle approximately 87 matches in 2 days in those absurdly large brackets? So he can re-injure his shoulder?

I’d love to see Blaze vs Vega. Vega has really really impressed me of late. He’s super tough and funky. I think Blaze wins but that’s absolutely a tough match. Duke on the other hand hammers Denny

I am guessing he will be at 174lb for High School this season. Could he grow even more in college? I would also think he jumps over Stewart in the rankings.

Duke and Blaze have nothing to prove at Supee 32. No reason to go after just going to Olympic Trials and Worlds. Bassett is all about building his brand so it makes sense why he went.

Blaze is on another level than Vega. He would major him.

Blaze is incredible but no way do I think he majors Vega. Blaze doesn’t usually light up the scoreboard against top competition. He pretty much always wins but relies on his defense. I see him winning by 3 or 4
I would take Blaze by major..at worst 5-7pts he wins by. Vega is very good but I just think Blaze would be too much for him.

I refuse to participate in Facebook wrestling groups or whatever, but there’s an allegation that there was an IV business outside the arena after weigh ins? Is the cutting at S32 THAT bad?

I can barely get my guys to sniff their “season” weight at Regionals/Fargo lol. Who’s making/letting kids cut wild IN OCTOBER?

I see far more “I’m gonna get bigger and go up” than “I need to get down to such and such weight”. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but sometimes I think it’s the boogeyman, when reading online accounts.

yeah. not sure about the mobile IV trailer.

But yes. dudes make big cuts for Super 32. With day before weigh-ins its pretty much a given and a must.

Didn't see this coming: Bechtold beat Mocco in the finals 5-0 on an escape and NF4.
Bechtold is an absolute hammer. I swear every time I see him wrestle someone he lost to previously he reverses the result. He is better at folk than free and a hammer on top, he looks like a future NCAA superstar to me.
