Coaching changes 2024

They’re starting the process next year. I’ve been told they’ve got a bunch of guys in the portal now because of the postseason ban during the transition. I’d imagine they’ll participate in the NCWA championships in the meantime

At Nebraska they are hiring Miss Manners to teach Marky Manning how to use Twitter and exit an arena without being a douche. Tough task, so pay will be premium and rumor is they are hiring AJ Ferrari. I know what everybody is thinking, what!? The reasoning is that despite AJ continous childlike and criminal behaviors that he will be able to teach Coach Manning to do a split and the athletic administration will then be able to disengage his head from his ass and his Twitter and arena exiting skills (and manners) will improve.

Word is this big news is Pitt adding former Oklahoma head coach Lou Rosselli to their staff.

Rosselli previously ran the Ohio RTC when the Bucks had their run at/near the top. If true, it's a huge hire for Gavin.

these smaller schools cannot keep up money wise with the big school NIL has just made things worse!Schools will be dropping the sport!

Last week, I made it clear that in my mind G/R should not be classified with F/S wrestling - enough of that topic!

I realize after watching way too much F/S wrestling the last month or so - folkstyle is much more exciting to watch! Even Lewan!

3-4 leg laces and that's exposure - dumb as hell to me? The guys are sitting on their asses and rolling to keep their knees from being torn!

I've never been leg laced - have no idea if it's painful or not - Beau went around quick when Alirez pinched/crossed his knees -

dropping to your knees prevents the 1pt step out or you see a caution offered for fleeing ... maybe caution and 1 ... what the hell? You are out of bounds, knees or not? Award the point! Keep it consistent

body locks and exposures when you clearly are taken down is dumb - the initiator gets penalized for the elementary school roll thru ?!?! <--- really DUMB

Folkstyle is understood by every wrestler / wrestling fan in the USA - Top/Bottom/Neutral -

Interesting/scary that we might have been close to losing Cael to Ok State if the change of AD hadn’t have happened. (Per @smalls103 and Fellers on their podcast).

Can you imagine losing the GOAT and all he’s built because of that simpleton, Barbour?
What's the back story with Barbour??
All i can find is that Cael and Franklin didn't love her...

Thanks in advance.

No idea. @smalls103 may know details.
For one, she required coaches to submit weekly reports for review of the programs. Russ Rose spent an entire flight from Philly to Atlanta sitting next to my best friend explaining how he spends more time explaining his program's needs and goals to Sandy than he did coaching and recruiting combined.

There was the one summer he would not sign his contract until the negotiations for his assistant coaches' pay was taken out of the AD's hands and negotiated to Cael's satisfaction at a level way above Sandy's pay scale.

Sandy wasn't the vaccine problem, but the closest I was ever aware that PSU might lose Cael was over the vaccine.

Classic bureaucrat. Not enough of a people person to effectively fundraise or to lead execution of a vision that she didn't have anyway.

She's the reason PSU fell so far behind the pack in NIL that multiple alumni splinter groups popped up to fill the void ... and overlapped and caused confusion because of the leadership void. Too much inertia.

Also the Facilities Plan, coach/assistant coach/staff salaries, etc.

Her reign at UC Berkeley wasn't notable either. Probably PSU hired her to bring stability and be on high-profile NCAA and B10 committees ... which is settling for 3rd place behind Ohio State and Michigan in football, and worse in hoops and most Olympic sports. And is the wrong approach during an dynamic industry-wide upheaval such as NIL.

But it could be worse. At least she wasn't Trev Alberts or Sharon Taylor.

Think this is probably a good summation. Not a disaster but nothing clear of aggressively fine at best.

Sharon Taylor was Satan. I had to sprinkle holy water on my computer because of your post. Now it doesn't work. Thanks man.

Beating the dead horse here the 100th time but what angered Cael also was he was seeing roster damage. The Evan Wick fiasco was awful, him getting into Cal Poly no issues made it worse. Sandy didn’t lift a finger to helps him. Sandy being completely behind the 8 ball for NIL also cost PSU Suriano. Both of those pieces at the time looked like it could tangibly cost them the 2022 national championship. Similarly RBY’s “I’m done” statement related to his frustrations with not being allowed to even participate in his own deals for NIL but luckily that was fixed in time.
Correct me if I'm misremembering, but IIRC a big part of the RBY issue was that PSU had no NIL guidelines or advising in place for the athletes, and rejected RBY's deal because it potentially violated PA law that PSU failed to help him acquire or advise him on.

And that's the Barbour Athletics Dept in a nutshell. PSU had to set up a committee to study the issue. PSU athletes were left on their own to find deals without fundraising or legal help. Meanwhile, other schools studied the issue while it was still before the Supreme Court, had proactively set up NIL support infrastructure, helped shape their states' laws, and were off to the races.

Though to be fair, that's also the PSU approach to most anything.

Ah, the difference between management and leadership. One manages by the book. The other creates the book.

I can't remember if their is an actual thread in here about coaching changes or not but news about to break that Hayden Hidlay is heading to Stanford.

I found the other thread
