Coaching changes 2024

Yeah Bainey broke my kids elbow when he was about 10, I never forgave him for that yet!!

Lol, it did happen my son had a close match with him that time and I was ecstatic. Bailey had my son by the ankles while in a standing position so my sons arms where extended keeping his stomach off the mat, nothing looked out of the ordinary but my son started crying and the ref said he heard a pop. I tried like hell to get him to finish the match but the ref, trainer and WIFE over ruled me. So Dubois hospital we went, just a fracture on the growth plate in his elbow, he is healed I am not it was a great match! 😋

@Delcolion915 was referring to the area code, there aint no way edinboro is 814, i live close to @johnstownsteel
Erie is 814

814 covers more land area than any other I think in Pa. It goes through Centre, Clearfield, Jefferson, then all the way up to Venango and Erie. I might be wrong because 717 is also huge. What do I know though, my girlfriend asked me about 14 questions during the Carr/Mesenbrink match and I promptly blamed her for jinxing the tournament....the one we won by 100 points 😂
They did an overlay of 814 and 582 a couple years back because they ran out of numbers.

He's going to do really, really well there. Close enough to homebase, beautiful campus, away matches in the ACC close to homes and his personality/work ethic. This will be a big blow to NC State and VA Tech.
Considering he spent a year with Koll at Stanford, Koll knows what he is getting with Cenzo and Koll has always surrounded himself with guys who helped him succeed.

Hearing Bloom may land a whopper...
Would be very welcome news.
Been wondering about Bloom as I am an alumni. Have you heard any names? If they intend on getting a higher profile coach than they need to start putting resources into the program, that IMHO have been lacking for a decade or more.

Yes, I've heard names. Specifically, a name and some who will come aboard as staff.

No, I don't feel comfortable posting them. It's not my place to steal that thunder. I'm pretty sure you will be happy - the name is high-profile and new to this type of conversation. Hope that's good enough for a couple of weeks.

Yep. It's been Kem from the start pretty much (from someone who was a part of the initial hiring search)

And apparently there's a big donor ready to step up and fund it to the tune of millions.
Kemerer is going to be a tremendous head coach.

It's a shame wrestling is a sport where personal accolades might block him from getting strong consideration for the Iowa HC job one day (and this is not a knock at all on him but let's be honest, it's reality, those jobs go to the guys who won a lot domestically and internationally) because I think personality, technical knowledge, business savviness, you name it (anything you need to be an elite HC) Michael Kemerer exudes.

did you think either of the Alton bros would be good coaches? Thought one of them was at F&M? Guess the point I'm trying to make is that there are a lot of really good coaches - just without the right resources of some sort

Kem puts himself in the discussion if he's outstanding at Bloomsburg.

What a foot in the door, he and Spencer are super tight..
So Spencer leaves Iowa and his Olympic dreams to asst coach for Kemerer? That would create an awe inspiring hypernova in the cesspool. It may actually kill it. I'd contribute to that happening for the giggles alone. We should crowd fund this.

Not a person wouldn't be happy if Kem succeeded in the wrestling world. He's a great guy. Without the accolades, he'll have to do it the harder way, but just look at Tom Ryan. He never won a personal national title either but has won a team national title as coach.

Not a bad comparison though I’d even add Kemerer is obviously much more likable than Tom Ryan lol

I’m not so sure about that. Yeah I know Ryan says some oddball stuff that goes out on public media, but I’ll bet if you spent some time with him personally, you’d come away with a completely different impression.

FWIW, I used to think that Metcalf was a bit of a loose cannon after that shove when Caldwell beat him and the weird look he would get in his eyes when competing. I know now that I was completely wrong about him. Iowa State was very lucky to get him on their coaching staff.

Dejavu all over again. I could swear I have read that same post someplace before. Weird.

I heard a few names quite a while ago and if they landed them it could have been a game changer.
I just wish the edinboro's, Clarions, Blooms, and Pitt could get something going.
I hope Pitt always struggles. Trash fan base. Gavin came in with hype but - blips aside - they pretty much finish in the 20s every year. With their location, that is atrocious.

We’ll see what Rosselli brings as an assistant, but he fizzled out at OU.

Rosselli was the motor running the Ohio RTC. They declined when he left. TBD how much of that he can replicate at Pitt without having to be the varsity head coach like at OU. Donors gonna have to step up much more than they have in the past.

That program was in terrible shape when Gavin arrived. Lots of disciplinary and academic issues. The room was worse than my HS room, split levels and multiple posts. The PWC was a youth club with no resident athletes. It's not what it should be, but it's far better than what it was.

Hilarious that they've gone full circle and hired Rosselli as the RTC coach, because the AD's obsession with Rosselli cost them Santoro and Flynn and a couple other candidates. Gavin is doing no worse than Santoro since then, but Flynn is kicking their butts from Morgantown.

Willie said today Kemmerer was basically a done deal but now hit a snag, not sure on which end. Still could happen.

Kemerer to Bloom would obviously be a huge get for them. The program has been an afterthought for a while now.

To tie in a post @Cstroke made earlier that mentioned Boro and Clarion, they’re under the PennWest banner now (still not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing). But both Clarion and Edinboro are in two very different places as programs.

I think Coach Ferraro has a pretty decent thing going at the moment. He’s got very strong local ties and continuity in the staff. They’ve hovered around .500 in the past decade. Obviously, that’s nowhere near the seasons Bob Bubb put out, but considering the landscape shift since Bubb stepped away, it’s not too shabby either. If Ferraro stepped down and they could get an alumni like Frankie Edgar or Kurt Angle to step up with their checkbook, they could entice an attractive candidate to sign on the dotted line.

As for Boro, they’ve got a long way to go. Flynn leaving along with Port, Moore and the mass exodus of transfers, was as close to a death blow as that program could take. Then, Bruce retired and it’s been worse. The alumni don’t seem to be hovering as closely around the program as when Flynn was there either. However, I do think the hiring of AJ Schopp will be a good shot in the arm. He was known to be a hammer on top and he’ll benefit Baney, Burgos, etc. immensely. I could see him eventually being tabbed as a HC for Boro. Whether Flynn’s eye for under the radar talent rubbed off on him remains to be seen.

Good or bad. You're going to see a lot more consolidations of schools in the upcoming years.

For now, the PASSHE schools are merely under common management and offer students the ability to cross register, do the consolidations are a bit of a veneer. Plummeting birthrates and a growing belief, that many degrees offer a negative net present value make make future consolidations more like the corporate kind.
