College basketball rule changes approved

awesome changes IMO.

Highlights:
Shot clock reduced from 35 to 30.
1 less 2nd half timeout.
Restricted zone under hoop expanded from 3 feet to 4 feet (so less charges)
Wish they would actually make the players dribble the ball rather than carry it. Game is not what it used to be.

No need to dribble when you can travel on every possession. I'm with you, the game is a lot easier when you don't have to follow the rules.

All good moves. Hope they cut down on fore-arm shivering..err..hand checking

Yeah, when I was still playing basketball, all the young kids were carrying the ball. They don't call it at any level of organized basketball that I've seen.

Used to piss me off in high school, some refs would call it and others wouldn't and some would only call it some of the time or against one team and not the other. We had one game where our coach went Bobby Knight and threw a chair because the ref called it like every possession against us, meanwhile the other (home) team was carrying and taking up to five steps on drives without anything being called.

Like all of the rule changes. Would love basketball to eventually just to go to the universal 24 second shot clock. The timeouts have got to an insane level and any curbing there is good by me.

Traveling though I think is past the point of return. It's so ingrained at EVERY level, mens/women games, boys/girls. It gets called on a lifted pivot more frequently than on additional steps. I think it is basically just an accepted part of the game now. You will rarely see a breakaway dunk where there wasn't blatant walking anymore

The one thing I get a kick out of is when some official takes it upon himself to call a "palming". It happens EVERY possession.

Believe these are still only PROPOSED changes.....still need to be formally approved.

The worst traveling violation nowadays is the "jump stop". They now land one foot and then the next but they jumped before they landed so it's considered a jump stop.

What we need is better shooting inside the 3 point arc by everyone! Fewer time outs would also speed up the game. Every 4 minutes we get a 2 minute media timeout. The rule change on timeouts will help but not that much. Limit media timeouts to 2 per half unless a team timeout is called within 3 minutes. Also, at end of games, last 2 minutes, foul shots are worth 2 points each and fouled in the act of shooting, get 3 shots to make 2.
