Comcast Offer

I apologize for another Comcast thread, but I have an offer that in my opinion is hard to pass up. So, the infrastructure for Google Fiber is being put in around Nashville and our neighborhood will have access when it is ready. It has been over a year and it seems caught up in the bureaucratic machine somewhere...long story short, no idea when it will be available.

I have been a loyal DirecTV customer for over 10 years, but I am currently paying $200/month for my service as we get all the movie channels and have all the bells and whistles. We pay $79.95 for Comcast high speed blast internet. So, a total of $280/month for TV and internet. I have the wireless receivers for DirecTV and love the flexibility of being able to move them if I want.

Comcast has been working overtime to try and combat the arrival of Google Fiber in this area (even though it's not here yet) in anticipation of a mass exodus of customers.

Here is the offer they are throwing out: 3 year contract to lock in XFinity Blast Pro Plus Internet and TV (100 Mbps) plus your choice of one premium channel (HBO or Showtime) and access to Streampix (assuming their version of Netflix) as well as On Demand for a total of $60/month for 3 years.

I would be saving $220/month which is hard to pass up, but I've dealt with Comcast before and am wary of making the switch, even given the immense savings.

Appreciate any thoughts on whether this is worth it or not, or if I should hold out for Google Fiber?

Comcast is Comcast, regardless of how much, or how little, you pay. The cost savings is substantial, however, you're locked into 3 years of Comcast hell.

Do they have an out clause, if so how much? It MIGHT be worth it if you know you can get out when Fiber is ready, or Comcast starts being Comcast. It's possible (though unlikely) that they will be better in your market because they're worried about retention. However, I have to think they're just going to lure people in with a cheap price, lock you in with 3 years with no way out (or a huge cancellation fee), and still give you the same crappy service. At that price they're probably losing money and just trying to not to look bad to the market and stockholders with massive defections.

Contact DirecTV, say you will switch to Google, Comcast, Dish mean it. My bill was $96/mo, they gave me $40/mo for 12 months. I'll do the same next time. But I absolutely mean it when I call. Been with DTV for 10 years as well, love the user interface, customer service always been good.

Switch to Comcast. What is the cancellation fee? I have a two year contract and my early termination fee is $180 and reduces $10 a month. I am guessing yours is $300. So your break even is less then two months. So unless you think by some miracle google fiber would be installed in two month switch.
