Saturday night's 5 for 5 ranks as one of the best collegiate performances I've ever seen on the big stage in any sport. I was trying to think of similar previous efforts.

The closest comparison, and I had to go back over 40 years for a basketball equivalent, was Bill Walton's performance in the 1973 NCAA championship game. He went 21 of 22 from the field and scored 44 points in the game as UCLA won its seventh consecutive national title. It's also way underrated, imo. It's just ridiculous to miss one shot of 22 in that environment, just like knocking off two two-time champs on your way to championships in five consecutive bouts was. And it's also kind of parallel in that UCLA won its seventh straight title and Penn State got its sixth in seven years.

Any others come to mind?

For longevity of excellence for a team, the U Conn girls. They have not lost 2 games in a row since 1995. No where has a team had a run like that. Guess where Geno is from?, Pennsylvania. Played basketball for West Chester.

The other final event that was near perfection in college, was when Villanova upset Georgetown in 1985. Sports illustrated called it the perfect game. Nova shot 22 for 28 (78%) from the field. Most teams don't do that from the foul line. It was 1 night of perfection, just like what we witnessed on Saturday.

no hitter in the playoffs for Roy (although it should have been a perfect game as he struck out Rolen on "ball 3" prior to the BB).

perfect game was during the regular season. it was actually the same night as game 1 of the Flyers/Blackhawks Cup Series.

He was arguably better in the playoff no -hitter, as the hardest hit ball all night came off the bat of Reds pitcher.... a soft liner to RF

2005 NCAA Wrestling Championships. 5 for 5 in the finals, 7AA total, 153 total points.

I know, wait until next year!

Ladies and gentlemen you have witnessed the greatest wrestling team in history based on many factors. First of all the Big Ten is the unquestioned best conference with 7-8 of the top teams from the Big Ten. The parity do to wrestling exposure not only in the US but globally. PSU destroyed every team it faced this year. Don't forget they destroyed Ohio State away at OSU in front of a record crowd. They destroyed Iowa away with a sold out crowd of over 15,000. They destroyed Oklahoma away in front of a record crowd. I would guess that this team scored more bonus points than any college team in the last 50 years. If someone could research that it would help. They had 5 wrestlers in a row win National titles. Never been done before. Tied the record for 5 National champions from one team. Tech fall at 149, MD at 157, pin at 165, decision at 174 and 184. We have one more year of Zain, two more years of Bo and Nolf, 3 more years of Nick,Mark, and Vincenzo. Vincenzo pins the 2 X Nat. champ, Bo beat the 2X Nat. champ. Mark beat the #1 rated wrestler at 174. Nevills took 5th. We have Berge, Manville, Bravo-Young and Westlake coming in to learn to be great. There has never been a greater recruiting tool than what PSU did at the 2017 Championships.
