I had quietly pondered the similarities of our current squad vs 2005 edition leading up to Saturday night. Seems pretty obvious now. While I think people are easily connecting the dots between the two wins (and what it might mean moving forward), there were a lot of similarities leading up to it. New and more mobile QB, coming off two "disappointing" seasons, media calling for coach on the hot seat, offense not quite clicking early were a little familiar back story. But look at the last three games:
1) Minnesota - an impressive come from behind win that looks like it turned the tide (Northwestern '05)
2) Maryland - coming out and playing first complete game in some time (Minnesota '05)
3) O$U - what else needs to be said here. Even the biggest play of the game came from D/ST (recall Calvin Lowry's interception)
I hope we have the same trajectory as that '05 team, it certainly feels this way. Now the prior version was more senior-laden and had some different circumstance, i think we all want to feel the same about this team. Not saying there's a big Orange-Bowl like game in our immediate future, but if they finish out the season like that team did....man oh man are we in for some fun.
Looking forward to seeing how the start against Purdue. I think the first 15 min will say a lot about this team and how they prepared (not terribly concerned about a let down, but there's a non-zero chance). Strap in your seat belts and let's enjoy the ride!
