FB Recruiting Conrad Hussey makes surprise visit to Florida State

Watching that video, recruiting is so icky. I don't know how these guys do it over and over again, where they have to make this kid setting foot on campus seem like the greatest thing in the world.

Cut him and take a portal kid...don't even give him the chance to decommit.
I'm beginning to think that for the blue bloods, it might be a better recruiting strategy to use the portal to get most of your recruits because they are ready-made college players rather than recruiting unproven high school athletes, many of whom never will amount to anything.

I just think you stand firm.....if you are looking then so are we and in that case it probably isn't good to be in a relationship.

How quick we are to condemn. If another school entertains one of our recruits it’s a slimy low underhanded procedure by both the school and the recruit. When we entertain another school’s recruit it’s a brilliant tactical maneuver by the staff showing why he’d be best at PSU. And the kid is only exercising his options. It’s a dirty but necessary part of the business if you want success.

Except the girl you are dating is way hotter than any of your other prospects.

Especially a proven transfer with 2+ years of eligibility? Yes please.

What do you think % of blue blood starters were recruited out of HS vs transfers? 90/10? 80/20 at the worst?

If you think that is anything, you should see what the bonsai welcoming looks like at Penn State. That's nothing.

Good point, as we have a couple guys visiting this week that are committed to other schools.

I am not doubting you. I have to not click on these things so I can pretend it doesn't exist.

I don't believe top 10 teams can fill their roster from the portal and win 10+ games. The top teams still need the base of high4 and 5 star studs to produce the super star leaders that form the nucleus of a playoff type team. The example is the 2022 PSU class that has Allar, DDS, Carter, Shelton and others to build around. And if Franklin would have gotten similar classes that addressed a couple of other positions (WR and DT) he wouldn't be so stressed now trying to fill those positions in the portal....

But teams like Pitt that aspire to win their division and build on mediocre classes sure have to hit some home runs in the portal.

I don't totally disagree, but.......
JF tells kids, don't commit unless you are sure. If you are sure and you are committed, that means you aren't "dating" anyone else. If you decide to date someone else, then that means we are no longer committed to each other.
He doesn't tell kids to not look at other schools. He just sets conditions for a commitment and continued schollie offer.

I understand your point and agree with it but Pitt is a bad example because their division is so weak they can still win it with three star talent.

You can fill a roster with portal players for a one/two year run but it isn't sustainable. As for three star talent, star rating are nonsense. There is so much bias built into them that they are not useful. A 3 star from PA is virtually indistinguishable from a 4 star from Georgia. Good coaches routinely identify, recruit AND develop good players. You need all three. The best defenses we have seen in the Big Ten during the starz era, were built around so-called 3 star talent. They were all 4 star players but didn't have the exposure. The so-called blue chip ratio is complete nonsense. It is a case of confirmation bias. Nothing more, nothing less.

The fact remains there is more talent in the northeast than any place in the country. Not all of it plays at high level programs and diploma mills like it does in the south so it is harder to find but it is still there and more abundant than anywhere else because there are more people.

See Michigan State. Didn't exactly work for them. For a year, yes. But doesn't look good long term.

Hate to say this publicly, but Duzzy has managed to parlay taking some transfers together with developing some under rated players in his normally low rated recruiting classes to be competitive in the ACC. But then again, it's the ACC.......

He's got his next 2 QB's already since transfer activity began on 12/5.... Probably better players than he would have gotten out of H.S.

Never forget. 51-6

48-14 is the "standard"....

The day PSU pushed pitt into the oblivion of college football for 40 years!!

9-3 season with losses to USC, Bama and Miami. Joe should have scheduled more games vs Temple, Cincy and Syracuse.

If you are referring to 1981, it was a rebuilding year with a young QB. Which paved the way to face and conquer a brutal 1982 schedule.

The 1981 schedule was just fine.

Oh, and the only losses in 1981 were to Miami and Bama, with wins over Nebraska, ND, #1 Pitt and USC. PSU beat USC 26-10 in the Fiesta Bowl, shutting down Marcus Allen who had run for 2000 yards that season. USC's only touchdown was a return of an interception. A pretty good beat down of USC that led to PSU domination of their 1982 schedule, which I believe was rated the toughest schedule in the country.

Generally I agree with most of this. We learned early with Quintus McDonald that potential and hype don't always translate to star college football player (or even good in his case).

More bodies = more players is logical, but a caveat that would favor the South vs NEast is how many of their kids are primarily football players vs all sport athletes?

In SEPA we have seen a number of our most athletic kids turn to lax. They may play football, but it isn't their passion. Our school has had a number of our players quit football to focus on travel/showcase lacrosse, with good results as quite a few landed D 1 scholarships.

Football only players are dwindling, at least where I'm at in PA. A guy like Evan Royster used his lax skills- dodging/spinning etc- well for us at PSU, But between concussion fears and "cool" factors, if "All the Right Moves" were filmed today the kid may well be a "Lax Bro." Hockey is another year round sport that has drained football talent too.

Try 10-2, with 6 games (50% of them) against teams that finished ranked in the top 20 (#4, #7, #8, #11, #14, #17).

Maybe they should have scheduled some less difficult games to be like everyone else in cfb.

Exactly, it’s all part of the game. No one bad mouthed the NW kid who recently switched to PSU.

Yet Franklin goes after other teams commits, no?

Yep deservid champion.

Not like Michigan this season, which scheduled the little sisters of the poor fore each of their OOC games this season.

But alas, UM will choke in the playoff anyway.....

If you're gonna leave then just freaking leave. Don't make a damn show out of it. Hate that sh!t.
Reminds me of the Andre Roye situation last year where Roye's decommitment got leaked to Penn State a couple of days before he was going to decommit and it became a non-event on signing day.
