I came across this a great compilation of Cael &PSU Wrestling admiration/criticisms outside our board.

http://board.themat.com/index.php?/topic/15092-ive-got-some-criticisms-about-psu-and-cael/

My top 10 favorites include:
1) He pulls off the bald look way better than me
2) There isn't enough cow bell
3) His wrestlers don't pin every opponent - in the first minute!
4) He killed national duals and took the mats home with him.
5) Cael is the only wrestler to have been known to be able to put on both socks at one time.
6) I bought a pair of his wrestling shoes when I was in high school and they got scuffed up after a few practices. I still hold Carl personally responsible for this.
7) I purchased and consumed his sponsored snack food products from beundefeated.com prior to each of my matches. I didn't go undefeated. I hold Cael personally responsible.
8) My olympic Cael bobble head doll broke.
9) Chuck Norris and the Boogyman both check under the bed for Cael before going to sleep each night.
10) Cael doesn't do pushups, he pushes the earth Down.

At least some of them have a sense of humor.

Any you think they missed?

Did the OP ever chime in. They started the thread but opted out of providing anything specific. Typical The Mat posts when it comes to anything PSU.

That "OP" makes Jammenz appear like PSU alum. I think of him as the Roger Stone of TheMat.com just without any results.

The OP is one of several Cornell fans that post on themat.com and sometimes here who just HATE on Cael, mainly because we won the team title in 2011 when they thought they were going to win.

I have to apologize to all who found this thread unfunny. I suppose my sense of humor found it hilarious that there is so little to criticize about Cael and his program even his "critics" are in awe to the point where they literally have to make something funny up to deal with his awesomeness.

I viewed their thread more as a variation on the old Chuck Norris jokes that tried to celebrate his greatness with humor, like:

Chuck once fought Superman and the loser had to wear his underwear over his pants.

Absence of drum rolls on the internet makes humor tough sometimes, sorry, no offense ever meant to the man or program.

For a empathy check of what the competition has to deal with, name another sports program with as much success that was run by a great human being. UCLA & John Wooden is the only one I can recall that is even in his league.

I didn't think it was unfunny. I thought it was great. The OP on themat.com was trolling as he always does and it backfired as there really isn't much to criticize.

He left 5 Championships and 153.5 team points up for grabs at Nationals this year...........mediocre at best.

No need to respond to other teams fan's rants. It's a badge of honor really, awarded to the top dog at the time, and should be embraced. Iowa was "it" for many years, and the Cowboys before them.

I'd rather be "disliked" or hated, though, because we're winning, and not because our fans act like jerks. Take the high road, and let the program speak for us.

People who actually knew him would disagree with you.

Bill Walsh, former Head Football Coach
"Coach Wooden's own life is the embodiment of enduring American values. His priorities are, and always have been, correct - family, faith and friends - and he never veered from them in spite of professional success and celebrity of the highest magnitude.

Denny Crum, former UCLA assistant & Louisville head coach
"I believe his longevity at the top of the basketball ladder was no accident. His willingness to listen to the ideas of others and his lack of ego allowed him to change and keep up with an ever-changing game. His life away from basketball was dominated by his family and church. I have never met a nicer or more dedicated family man. To try and emulate him both on and off the floor is very difficult to do. He is such a wonderful person in every way. I can only pray that I have half as much influence on the young people I coach as he did on me.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
"The wisdom of Coach Wooden had a profound influence on me the athlete, but an even greater influence on me as a human being."

Bob Costas, NBC Sports
"A man of John Wooden's accomplishments and integrity would stand out in any era,.. His understanding always went beyond the moment; his thoughts and actions guided by enduring principles.."

Sounds an awful lot like someone we all admire for the love and commitment he shares with many as he carries his greatness through life.

But hey, as we can see in those that attack Cael's greatness with unsubstantiated claims, just sling mud and some of it will stick.

actually, the claims against Wooden are not unsubstantiated .. dont take my word for it, just ask Bill Walton

“UCLA players were so well taken care of – far beyond the ground rules of the NCAA – that even players from poor backgrounds never left UCLA prematurely (for pro basketball) during John Wooden’s championship years.

“If the UCLA teams of the late 1960s and early 1970s were subjected to the kind of scrutiny (other schools) have been, UCLA would probably have to forfeit about eight national championships and be on probation for the next 100 years.

“I hate to say anything that may hurt UCLA, but I can’t be quiet when I see what the NCAA is doing (to other coaches) only because (they have) a reputation for giving a second chance to many black athletes other coaches have branded as troublemakers. The NCAA is working night and day trying to get (them), but no one from the NCAA ever questioned me during my four years at UCLA.”

Those quotes come from none other than Bill Walton, maybe the greatest Bruin of them all, in his 1978 book “On the Road with the Portland Trailblazers”, which went on to detail how Sam Gilbert, a Los Angeles contractor the feds allege made millions laundering drug money, bought a decade worth of recruits for UCLA.

Yeah, I omitted this 1997 Bill Walton quote from the book Wooden. Sounds like he had no respect for the guy.

"John Wooden is the greatest coach of all time, but what I learned from him had much more to do with living life than playing basketball. He wasn't just teaching us about basketball, he was teaching us about life. Coach gained respect with a very simple method: by his personal example. He worked harder, longer, smarter and was more dedicated, loyal, concerned, caring, detailed, meticulous and enthusiastic than anyone I have ever worked with. You saw how true he was to doing things right, by thinking right. You wanted to follow him and his example. He created an environment where you expected to be your best and outscore your opponent; where capturing a championship and going undefeated was the normal course of events. I can't describe how exciting it was to be part of that - the joy of preparing us for competition. Of course, the real competition he was preparing us for was life (even though I didn't realize that until much later). His lessons were invaluable to me when I started raising a family... After my father, Coach Wooden has had the most profound influence on me of anyone in my entire life. I was touched by Coach Wooden's greatness - he set a standard I have been trying to live up to ever since. He is as positive as you can get. He taught us values and characteristics that could make us not only good players, but also good people. I have nothing but the greatest love and respect for Coach. Thanks for your sacrifice, gifts and patience."

That quote is full of innuendo and nothing more. If that's the worst that naysayers can find on Wooden, his image and legacy are as safe as the gold in Fort Knox.

wtf are you talking about? where did I say he didn't respect him? I didnt ...

i said John Wooden ran a dirty program ... that is a fact backed up by Walton (and numerous others). maybe the dirtiest in ncaa history. i never said anything about people not liking him or his players respecting him

This type of thread cracks me up. all roads lead to vegas hot tubs and a man Named Fixer. The sooner a man can accept this the sooner he can embrace the power of the dark side and realize his destiny.

The underlying problem here is that we are talking about basketball on a wrestling forum. Suggest you guys get your heads screwed back on and back to looking for ways that Cael can be a better coach. Jeez!
Sorry you can't understand that we aren't talking about basketball, but rather about the rarified air that is the greatness we see in Cael as a person and a coach. For there have been many great coaches, but few who can measure up to him on the other side of the scale as a quality human being as well. Wooden was simply an analogy offered.
And while he he may nominally appreciate our help in defending his program against unsubstantiated attacks from critics, Cael hardly needs our help in coming up with ways to be a better coach.

Cute pushback on the clown-faced jackass, but not enough to get an eyeful of the claptrap that is The Mat forums.

That was all tongue in cheek - you were supposed to laugh at...no kidding:)

Uhhh...how about Baylor under Dave Bliss, where the program was so dirty, they tried to cover up a MURDER?

SMU , eh ... that was a brief period of time. a few years and while they were successful on the field, it was nowhere close to the level of success that UCLA hoops achieved

Sam Gilbert was doing this stuff at UCLA for 15 years

word is he paid for abortions (among other things) for players, IMO thats worse than the Luoisville Ass't getting hookers for players. both are bad, but I'd say financing abortions are worse

and as for Baylor, yeah that was awful obviously but that is really a different story than cheating at recruiting & benefits to players. I mean the NCAA didnt even get involved there ... (which infuriates me even more with regarding their actions against PSU football)
