Dallas Cowboys doomed

Just signed Dak to the largest ever contract. Here’s to several years of empty stats and “deer in the headlights” performances in the playoffs.

$60 million per year is pretty sweet. A lot of people get upset when Fortune 100 company CEOs make $30million. I guess the same can be said of college football coaches being the highest paid people in their respective states.

Not bad for a guy that’s never won shit. What a joke. Pro salaries are out of control.
He may be tied with Kirk Cousins in number of meaningless 400 yard passing games he’s put up. It would be interesting to put together an all-time stat padder list

For the Cowboys, the amount of the salary is irrelevant. The impact on their salary cap is the issue. And Jerrahs been stupid with this in the past…

The league could replace every single player with their respective backups and the NFL would still make billions
What if all those players were in another league?
And...truthfully...I dont think there's enough backup QBs that would be decent.

There is no other league.

No one would care if they are decent.

It's the brand not the players.
So, you're saying if all the top players in the league were simply told you don't matter we wouldn't quickly see a league created by someone like Cuban? The Networks wouldn't lose their minds. You're not making any sense.

The NFL is what it is because of the caliber of play.

Look at the amount of $ Desean Watson got from Cleveland! I'm betting if you asked Browns fans, they'd have an interesting opinion on the matter!

You are worth what someone is willing to pay you and not a penny more.

Who cares if Jerry pisses his money away? If he overpays a crappy QB it means can’t afford good players elsewhere. Result is Dallas sucks. Looks a win to me.

They'd probably gladly pay Dak 60M to get rid of Watson lol
Well, to be fair, CLE played without their two starting OTs and lost a second-teamer in the first half. So the were down three OTs playing against Micah Parsons. A way to combat that is to establish a running game but without Chubb (who will probably play around mid-season) their running game sucks. One D returned the punt for a TD early in the second half that game was over. I should also note that Watson's father died last week as well as one of his former Clemson teammates, receiver Deondre Overton.

lots of angst in CLE as Mayfield played well and the fans wanted to keep Flacco. Front office will be all fired if the browns don't do well this season.

Honestly, I don't think a league of Gardner Minshew's and Boston Scott's is making billions.
Brands are built by performance, not the other way around.

Even with all backups you have 100% college superstars on the field.

CeeDee Lamb with a big contract, Dak at the top of the pay scale, and still have to do a deal with Micah.

How can they pay the rest of the roster a fair amount?

Maybe their top-heavy payroll is a big reason for limited post-season success?

Jerry Jones paid $150m for the cowboys. The franchise is now worth an estimated $11B. So he's made $10,850,000,000. I think he is going to be OK.

Years ago, somebody asked Lamar Hunt if he was concerned that his son, Clark (worth $200m), was losing $1m a year on the Kansas City Chiefs. Lamar said "Yes, in 200 years, he'll be broke."

BTW, he bought the Chiefs franchise for $25,000. They are estimated to be worth over $6B right now.

Yeah, I get the incredible personal wealth that Jones and many other NFL owners have achieved.

My question is more about -- how can the Dallas Cowboys negotiate the salary cap to have a deeply talented roster considering the big bucks they are paying a few stars? Are they serious contenders for the Super Bowl?

Ya all those teams would take Dak over him. We know you are Pittsburgh fan and dislike ravens and Dallas as you continue to bash their QBs. However there aren’t many better then those two.
I don't believe that. I don't dislike the Ravens or the Cowboys. CeeDee Lamb is one of my favorite players. I'm one of the few Steelers fans that don't have the Ravens. I'm just honest about Lamar. And all of those teams could have signed Lamar if they felt he was worth it. Not a single team wanted him. No one. Then the Ravens caved and overpaid.

Their continued playoff and big game failure is comparable to Cousins. Call a spade a spade.

Lmao

There are at least 20 nfl teams that would love to have Dak as their QB. He was far from reason they lost playoffs last three years.
Cowboys fan since 1972. You would be incorrect. While the defense was lousy for sure against the Packers, you simply can’t throw a pick 6 directly at a defender when the team is already down several scores. His playoff record is 2-5. Strange how so many are quick to defend Dak for his lousy playoff performances but would be all over him like flies on you know what if it was Romo performing like that. Exhibit A is Aikman who continues to support Dak despite saying that he spoke with Dak after the Packer debacle last year and said that Dak told him he was breathing heavily during the game. Here’s a clue for you Troy—sugar coat it as much as you want but that is choking.

If Gardner Minshew were playing in a league with a bunch of backups, then would he still look like Gardner Minshew, or would he look like a star? Would the average fan be able to tell the difference?

The defense cost them last year no doubt. I think defense will be better tgis year with Zimmer. The two previous years San Fran was just better team. Like I said Dak is a pretty good qb and a lot of teams would want him.

I've been to a DIII college football game. The lesser athleticism is noticeable. A league where Gardner minshew is the flagship talent (vs Tom Brady) might still make money, but a drop in talent will necessarily drop interest and therefore profit.

You may be right, but there's quite a difference between NFL backups and DIII.
