David Corley could be a shortimer at PSU

This guy hasn’t done anything to put on the map. Don’t know what you people are seeing

Maybe. The total package at W & M for the current coach is in the low $300k neighborhood.

If I'm an AC looking for a steppingstone I look for a more prominent program which translates into more money. On the othjer hand, some guys might want nothing more than to be HC at a place like W&M for their entire career.
You mean like Jimmy Leacock??(sp?)
Who I've hAd a chance to talk to over the years. Seemed like a good guy

That “drop” was on 9, ball was low and behind 12 who was cutting across the field. Trace’s deep balls were on point Sat night but many of his intermediate throws were not.
You’re joking right? Trace made an unbelievable play to even get it off and it was a bit low but definitely not behind a wide open #12 for an important first down. Hippenhammer and any other receiver on scholarship has to make that catch 10 out of 10 times damn it!!!! I’m sick of the drops this year!! You have 1 Fvckin job as a receiver!!!

Mike Tomlin? I beleve he went to w and m. Obviously I’m kidding but there are prob some steeler fans that would love to see him leave...
That would probably be an upgrade for him right now. He wouldn't have to worry about prima donnas holding out.

I guarantee that Hippenhammer would agree with you. He would acknowledge that he has to make that catch.

I don’t know much about Corley but I trust JF’s ability to identify coaching talent. As for Gattis, my sense is that he was a really good coach. You don’t move from the receivers coach at PSU to the co-offensive coordinator at Bama unless you are pretty special. I heard Saban talking about how he was impressed with Gattis’ technical expertise as a coach. Plus, we all know he was a great recruiter.

No, they also have to block and chip and pick and run decoy routes and....you get the point. But probably not. Enjoy your myopic views....Trace ain’t perfect, I don’t want anyone else, but I call em like I see’em, and I don’t wear Blue and White bifocals.

When I played college football, if the ball hit a receiver in the hands, it has to be caught. That doesn’t mean the throw was perfect. When a QB has to move off his mark and make a play just to get the ball out, he often times will not make a perfect throw. That is why teams recruit receivers who can catch anything that touches their hands.

You have every right to call things like you see them. But that doesn’t mean that you understand what a D1 coaching staff expects of its receivers. And people saying that a receiver as talented as Hippenhammer should have caught that pass doesn’t mean they are wearing blue and white bifocals with respect to the throw. Trace improvised and the receiver needs to help him out by making a play on the ball. Making those kinds of plays is what separates championship teams from others. And to be clear, I am not criticizing Hippenhammer. I think he has a bright future and should probably get worked into the offense more than he is at this point. The kid is very talented.

So nobody could catch that ball? Sorry, but I disagree. Not a gimme, but certainly catchable.

How can blame the wr? They are all in the best ever category at Penn State. We had a thread about this. I mean we are WR U. Even more so than Lockdown U with our DB's.

No receiver has ever caught every pass that touched their hands... not even Jerry Rice, Santana Moss, Hines Ward, Antonio Brown... expecting a WR to catch every ball thrown at them is just crazy.

I think Kijanalives point was that WR's have more than just "1" job, like the other poster asserted.

Just curious why you are of the opinion that the W&M AD is a nightmare?

I looked over W&M's sports forums and cant find a bad word about her. Seems like she has hired several coaches and admin folk, and has a five year plan to upgrade the sports programs. Probably many worse places to go and earn your chops as a HC.

Corley isn't getting the W&M HFC Job..... If it were offered, I'm not sure he would take it (unless he was being forced out elsewhere, and didn't have other options equivalent to his current gig - which I think is also highly unlikely).
why do you think a guy would turn down a HC job at a place you can win? Do you think he wants to be a career assistant?

A couple of possible reasons:

1. As a new hire his reputation is inevitably linked to how PSU does this year. What kind of recommendation can Franklin give him at this point?
2. If he's a person of integrity and honor he won't want to leave until his WR room meets the standard he and Franklin have set for it. Clearly, his work is not done and what worthy person want to would leave under those circumstances? Or hire someone who does?

Both of these reasons are so incredibly asinine that it’s difficult to come up with a response. He’d stop being a person of “integrity and honor” if he takes the head coaching job at his alma mater? Get out of here with that.

1) why would that matter? Norm said 'if offered he probably turn it down', so if he were offered, why would he even need as CJF recommendation ? If he was offered,CJF probably already gave one!
2) what is this non sense?

To W&M? :)... a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away.

Useless factoid: Long time PSU track & CC coach Harry Groves, coached at W&M prior to coming to PSU.
Lou had a famous quip after a bad loss.

Something along the lines of “We have too many Mary’s and no enough Bill’s”. That would cause a PC firestorm today.
