Heard he got hurt yesterday...anyone know how bad? I did not see the game, but I know the Steelers need him for next Saturday...

Walking boot after the game. Up in the air for sat with a shorter week. My gut says he's out but returns the following week if we win

Initially I thought it was very bad. Then later in the game he ran back onto the field which means x-Rays were negatative. MRI this morning so we should know later today. Steelers can't beat Cincy without him. Steelers got lucky last time they played Cincy with Dalton going out in 1Q. Maccaron has done a nice job for them the last few games

Steelers most definitely can beat Cincy without him (most definitely could lose WITH him as well)

If Pitt beats Cincy, it will be because Roethlisberger/Brown/Bryant and company light up the Bengal defense (and both teams know that coming into the game - with or without Williams) and if the Steeler D can harass the guy with the former "hot wife".....enough to prevent AJ Green from having a big day.

If McCarron can fumble this away:

th

I don't think he can be trusted on Saturday.

...heard Dr. Chou after the game say that the fact he was in a walking boot and not on crutches after the game was a good sign...
...also that the amount of swelling overnight would be a further sign of the severity of the sprain...

Also good to get an insider's opinion... what position do you play?
I need some help and clarification on this one, pandaczar. Given your comment, I suspect you (think you) are just person to ask.
  • Is a coach allowed to say "we" since the coaches don't play a position?
  • What about others like conditioning and medical staff? Can they say "we"?
    • They definitely help the team win so I think they might be okay but you seem to have a stronger opinion on who can say that.
  • What about administrative staff on the team? They probably think they are part of "we" but it gets harder with them. Some of them receive rings when their teams win a championship.
  • Are owners allowed to say "we"? They don't play but they do, in fact, pay for a lot of the operations and they are the first to receive the trophy if they (or is it "we"?) win the championship.
  • Which leads us all to the fans. Is there anything wrong with fans considering themselves part of their favorite team? Do they help the team win? Some people think the home field advantage can be very significant and a lot of that comes from the fans. I think that helps "them" (or is it "us") win more home games.
  • For college teams, can fans who went to a school refer to the team as "we"? Is there a minimum time before a lifelong fan can the team "We"?
Please help...
(or don't nitpick about someone using "we" when talking about their team ... although it isn't really "their" team ... I guess it is really their favorite team )

For the record, we think that in addition to being a bit too sensitive, that you have too much time on your hands... but here are the answers you seek since you are begging for help:

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, No, Generally Yes

You're welcome.

Walking boots are a precautionary measure that have no bearing on a players status for the next game. Williams is day to day, but I would think that if he feels up to it and can go through the walk through on Thursday, then he's a go for Saturday night. I think he plays, but even if he doesn't, we throw the ball 40 times against the Bengals and if we even play reasonably well defensively, I think we advance. On the other hand, this team is wildly inconsistent. The odds say the Steelers are going to play well, they've played two poor games in a row, and I don't think you see a third.

No, the real problem is Mike Tomlin. We've needed to draft a left tackle and corner backs for years, but he continues to pick OLBs. OLBs who are not smart or are under sized. Then they waste second round picks on 5'8" DBs who they know will need surgery and can't play this season (Golsen). It boggles my mind...

Also correct. The organization is so deeply guarded that very few people even know if this is a Tomlin or Colbert though...While it might be early to call Dupree a "bust", he has faded badly and was never much of a factor to begin with. It IS NOT early to call Jarvis Jones a bust though, he is a total, complete bust. It just boggles my mind how the Steeler party line continues to preach that bullshit about "whatever we do we cannot reach in the first round". I talked to Chris Hoke and he ran that same bullshit at me, about how we always pick in the early 20's or lower every year, and how nobody is left and taking a db is a "reach" and Ike Taylor and Willie Gay and bla bla bla bla bla.

Meanwhile they have ignored it for TEN YEARS. TEN YEARS, and they have not addressed the need. If it is so vital, so all important to the exclusion of everything else, that they don't "reach", then they need to address the need through trade or free agency, because the 11 busts that they have taken in the past four years, clearly show that neither Colbert, nor Tomlin, have the ability to successfully draft that talent "without reaching".

For christ sake REACH. Because you sure as hell aren't doing the job right in your scout department.

I think they've made some horrible draft picks...the 3 rd round particularly has been a waste and Jones is a bust but they've made some nice picks and have done well the last couple years. The real impressive thind is Villuava a te cut by the eagles is starting after one year at L tackle. I think he is as good and will be better than beachum, who is a nice draft pick.

While they've made some bonehead picks they've grabbed some studs. I agree though I want to see a big time corner taken 2 yrs ago at least.

Well, AJ Green will be out there this Saturday night, and if Tomlin puts 41 on him, we'll need 38 points. Could happen...but that's what it will take if Tomlin continues to play his boy, instead of Boykin.

Amen! Preach it, brother!

"Dupree had the highest grade on our board." Please! How can a guy who is dumber than a bag of hammers, and not in a position of greatest need for you team be the highest grade on your board? If that's true then whomever put your 'board' together is an idiot. I would assume that your coach and your GM had some input into your almighty 'board', and someone had to pull the trigger on the picks. So the dumb and dumber act of Tomlin and Colbert continues, and the ONLY reason that we are making any playoffs at all is that we are relying on Ben, a sixth round 'reach' in AB, and the horrible NY Jets...who've been horrible for 37 years.

Well, here's news for us Stillers fans: Ben will not be able to play forever. And when he's gone we're done. Not just average done...but done. I'm talking 2-14 done. I'm talking Browns level done. The defense is horrible. The Offensive line is Offensive. Without Ben we're a 2/3 win team this year.

Uh, maybe a BIT of an exaggeration? Ben missed 4 games in October and the Steelers went 2-2.

No doubt they need help in the secondary, but there are quality players in the front seven, and the O-line has improved (with coaching by Mike Munchak) to being a good overall unit.

Actually the offensive line is damn good: One of the 5 best in the NFL.

The defensive backfield is atrocious. Beyond atrocious. The outside linebackers, with the exception of Harrison, is not able to play every down or even every series, are poor.

We are in the playoffs because right now Ben is playing lights out. Yes, he has played poorly the past two weeks, but that isn't happening three weeks in a row. I like our chances this Saturday night in Cincy.

I disagree. Our OL is bad. We can't open a hole for a RB if your lives depend on it...and they do. Ben makes this offense work. We can't line up and convert a third and one running the ball with this OL. We have to throw the ball. That's on Ben and AB, for the most part. Can they get in the way of DLinemen for a few seconds on quick pass plays? Yes! Thank Munchak for getting them that far. But a GOOD offensive line? No! FAR...FAR...from it.

Back to the original post...
Just out a little bit ago.

"Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams does not have a fracture or any major damage in his right ankle and has an outside chance, albeit a small one, of playing Saturday night in a wild-card playoff game in Cincinnati, a team source confirmed to the Post-Gazette." http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...laying-in-wild-card-game/stories/201601040168

This is deja vu from last year, when we lost Bell in the finale game as well. Left Tomlin squandering for a quick fix replacement since Blount had played his shenanigans and quit on the team weeks earlier,.

I hope Williams can play or this week's game could look exactly like playoff loss last year. One dimensional, Ben was ineffective in the red zone. Remember Pittsburgh played minus Bell, out with a hyperextended right knee. Fill-ins got just 43 yards on 15 carries losing 30-17 to Ravens., and the big plays were a miss., as Ravens focused on the WRs.

The Steelers averaged 4.4 yds per rush, which was 8th best in the league, and did that without Leveon Bell for most of the season. They finished 3rd in passing offense, and 3rd overall in offensive yards, at 395.4 yds/ game.

So you don't exactly support your points with facts.

I'll be pulling for the Steelers in the playoffs, too.
