Did Saquon lose the Heisman tonight?

It's impossible for him to get the stats he needs when he's 5 yards off the LOS, nearly a second of a play has run, and he's getting handoffs with no running momentum behind an ok OL. The speed option or sweep are the only plays where he gets some momentum going, and we barely ran either tonight.

Sadly, Barrett may have won it.
I wouldn't have an issue inching Barrett above Saquon based on that performance. He was flawless, but put more of Barkley's performance on an OL outmatched vs. best DL in country.

Probably easier for Barrett to lose it the rest of the way though. Schedule lightens up considerably for PSU while OSU still has to deal with Iowa, MSU and Michigan.

PSU can respond well next week and get back on track.

Next week is huge. Can’t have a let down. A loss in the last 3 games of the season would be a massive...massive let down.

Barrett like Sanchez and Darnold played the best games of their lives against us. JT will not repeat this performance.
The Heisman, it's a jinx.

If you take a hard look at SB's numbers, they just aren't Heisman level. He benefits greatly from throwing the kick return numbers in. He was not a factor in the last 40 minutes of the biggest game of the year. He is amazingly talented, but the numbers aren't there.

Just like those that said he had already won it I think its still too early to say he lost it.
He has some really big games coming up that will all be getting national attention.
If he goes on another tear who knows.
I will tell you right now who the dark horse coming up fast is going to be and thats the kid from ND. Media already seem to be in love with him and its ND.

And to think that had it rained, it would have benefited us far more than we realized. 16 completions in a row. Damn it.

Heisman is a touch overrated. Barrett can't make those throws without his OL blocking like they did. Barkley is the best back in the country, but this scheme isn't doing him any favors. His Achilles's heel is his failure to just take what is there sometimes. He's a 3 down back who has the tendencies of a scat back/3rd down back.

coaching staff keeps running the read option which does not work, and it is costing Barkley big time!

Kickoff return was great, but he lost a lot of yards on his own trying to do the impossible.
Plenty of football left for Barkley to win it or Barrett to lose it. Barkley winning it has always been a long shot though because he plays for Penn State....just look at all the other Penn State Heisman winners. Whichever of the top 5 gets the hottest through November will win it.

Very possibly yes. But, it's not the end of the world for Barkley( who will soon be very rich) .

The Bates effect for Saquon:

With Bates: 11 carries for 58 yards and a TD. 4 rushing FDs.

Without Bates: 10 carries for -14 yards and not a singe rushing FD.

The rpo is a horrible offense for a feature tailback. Besides his 36 yd td run, Barkley had 21 carries for 8 yards. A DE will simply crash the backfield all day against the rpo, as OSU did. Barkley gets the handoff from almost a standstill, and that's fine against Akron, but not when your oline is getting shredded against a defense like OSU.

Its going to be an uphill battle for him but not impossible. He has to put up some huge numbers in the next several games and hope Barrett has a couple of mehh games or gets hurt. Defensive coordinators have learned how to slow him down and that makes his task much more difficult.

In a Wisconsin type offense Barkley probably averages 200 yards rushing a game and wins Heismen easily. PSU run game is deplorable. Half the defense is in Barkley face as soon as he gets the ball. It’s ridiculous.

Exactly. His rushing stats are just so-so. Running backs who win the Heisman continuously pump out 150 yard days.

I'm sorry, I watch real football in the SEC. Whom do you speak of? Never heard of him. So, chances are pretty good he was only in the Heisman race in your heads.

Reminds me of Clemson and a player named C.J. Spiller a few years back. Ohhh they loved him in Fake Death Valley, propped him up for the Heisman all year long and to his credit, he did put up UNBELIEVABLE numbers........but I kept warning the delusional Tigers that the competition he was playing against was only ACC competition and that was like the worlds tallest midget. They didn't like that at all. But at the end of the season, despite ESPN trying desperately to prop ol' CJ up and Clemson trying to prop him up and his all world numbers.......he literally wasn't even invited to the ceremony in NY. LMAO. He didn't even make the cut for the trip to NY.

So again, I'm sorry, but who?

No. The yards Saquon lost behind the LOS had a whole lot more to do with poor play calling and blocking than anything Saquon might have done or not done.
I agree that the TFLs are not Barkley’s fault, but people won’t see it that way... it will hurt his chances for the Heisman. The only way he wins the Heisman now is if he gets 200 yards rushing per game against the remaining opponents.
