Doc Rivers fired

Rivers has lost more game 7s than any coach in NBA history. He did win a title back in 2008 though. This year was the 3rd straight season the Sixers lost a game 7 in the conference semifinals and one of those seasons they were a #1 seed.

76ers simply collapsed this year in game 7. Hardin, who had the same rep in Houston, didn't show up in the 4th quarter of any of the last three games. Embiid plays too much on the perimeter.

To be fair, the shot the fell versus Toronto was a miracle shot and it could just has easily fallen off the rim as falling in.

While Doc is only an average coach the so called league MVP went 14/37 combined in the closeout games along with Harden 7/27. Sometimes its on the players.
Maybe. But I hear a talk show report he’s lost 5 (or 7)playoff series after being up 3-2. There's a common thread there.

And Harden came through in game one, then disappeared! Will he ever win a ring?
Does he even want one? Doesn’t act like it. Word it is that Jay Wright has zero interest in the role and loves his life and TV gig. The early frontrunner for the role is the fired Milwaukee Bucks coach.

They blew it at home in game 6 and collapsed in game 7. Gotta blow it up.
Team had 2 of the better playoff wins in team history in Games 1 and 5. Also had 3 of the worst in Games 2/6/7.

Hate to say it, but Boston deserved it. Rivers is not the only issue- but he is the first domino. Blown chance- just as easily could've gone the other way. Classic Choke.

Agreed, but having 4 players stand still while Embiid has the ball 18 ft from the basket allow for easy help. When they had movement, they had more open looks.

Yep. The NBA has a "second season" that is entirely different from the regular season. While it is great to have your center be able to stretch the D by having an outside game, you really want him defending the paint on D and getting offensive rebounds on O. And that ends up in needing a very physical presence inside. Celtics, Knick and Miami are built for the second season. Denver's Joker is simply dominating the post season in the West and no team seems to have an answer for him. And as physical as he is, he didn't have his first foul last night until late int the second quarter. Yikes.

the 76ers are "soft". Embiid is great but you can't be on the ground the entire game. A 76ers friend told me that he was on the ground 26 times in the first half of game 1 or 2, can't recall the exact game. He's got to stand in the and fight. Hardin is just soft mentally. He's had a history of disappearing in key moments (like the Cavs' Donovan Mitchell). That is a bad combo.

Embiid will never be the typical low post guy because of load management. Going to the block every trip adds 15 ft every trip. Over the course of the season with some one as big as him, wears his knees down. That is why he is rarely down there. It sounds dumb, but it is significant with his potential leg issues.

Not sure if Doc gets another gig or even wants one. He probably will but it will be a bottom feeder team. That 3rd quarter of game 7 was ridiculous, outscored 33-10. He was losing his job whether they lost by 1 or 21 but when your team just gives up, that is inexcusable. People remember that.

Harden is so non clutch it is comical. Never seen a supposed "superstar" come up so small in big moments as he does.

There is a common thread with Doc. He can’t be blamed for the game 7 disaster but I think he did a bad job of getting the team ready for game 6; they came out like they were sleep walking. That’s when they lost their chance to beat Boston. IMHO. Having said that, we all know it’s easier to fire the coach or manager than the players. The three biggest mistakes the front office made was not keeping Butler (although in fairness I think he wanted to go to Miami), drafting Fultz instead of Tatum and drafting local guy Bridges and immediately trading him for a guy who never played in the NBA. But hey this is the team who went into a draft with Moses Malone and the No 1 pick and traded all of that for a guy who was bone on bone in his knee and a couple of other stiffs.

How much coaching is there at this level. There are no secret schemes or special plays. It comes down to players. We have lost to osu repeatedly because they have better players not because of schemes

Agreed to an extent that it is a very fine line. The Boston Coach was heading for the axe after not calling timeout to set up a play in game 4, and then the game 5 blow out. Rivers even defended the guy after game 4.

Then in game 6 he makes an adjustment with Williams starting, Horford makes some shots and Tatum woke up in 4th qtr while Harden/Embid watched PJ Tucker and Melton shoot the game away. Game 7 choke by Philly, Doc fired, Mazzula moves on.

Ala Abdelnaby on the CSN Philly home broadcasts does a pretty good job analyzing plays/patterns/ in game adjustments. When in doubt: what's the sign of a good coach? Scoring out of a timeout. Doc shouldn't have to fire up players for game 6 or 7- but clearly he didn't give them confidence from being prepared either. I think he is done coaching. Maybe a front office job somewhere...but bench time is expired.

Now that I've been watching Miami win both games in the Eastern finals on Bostons home court, I'm even more disgusted!
