Does anyone know what prompted Sickels 1st half suspension? nfm

Apparently Coach Franklin has a team rule that you are not permitted to miss class without authorization. Franklin said originally violated a "team rule" and then revealed that the team rule was missing a class without authorization. You might not think it's a big deal, but you aren't the Coach and you don't make the "Team Rules"....

If this is true I now have a greater respect for JF. I think this is the way it should be

It was not due to missed classes.

Dude, Franklin said in his post game press conference that it was for a missed class during the bye week. You keep saying that it isn't, but are not providing any alternative scenario. If you were privy to information that is sensitive/confidential, then you shouldn't be saying anything. If you keep up the "no it isn't" routine without saying something like its for a parking ticket, you are just making it seem more dramatic than it may actually be. Franklin said it was a missed class and unless someone else provides an alternative reason, this is what I will believe. It's likely best that you take this secret with you to your grave and just let us all win the argument.

Not only did Franklin say it was a missed class, but he also took the opportunity to say that Penn State isn't all about winning. He said that they do things the right way at Penn State. So in making those statements, Franklin lied about Sickels' transgression?

Let's assume for a minute that Sickels was suspended for some other reason. What's to stop Sickels from coming clean at some point and therefore making Franklin look bad? Why would Franklin go out of his way to cite a missed class and say that Penn State does things the right way if he is in fact not being truthful and could be outed at some point?

Also, why is it only 'ro who claims to know something else? There is no buzz on twitter or in the media about it being something else.

Why is it that 'ro creates this controversy and has consistently made negative comments about Franklin last couple years? Mere coinky-dink don't you know? Yea, 'ro and slugger (another well-established Franklin-slammer) know more about what happened here than Franklin himself and should be permitted to effectively call Coach Franklin a liar on this board by it's administrators....mmmmhhhhhhmmm, what's that based on???

Franklin did not tell the truth. For a reason.

Not really a bad thing but it's not for missed classes.

We all appreciate the details. Really.

There have been other instances when Franklin has chosen not to disclose details regarding a player. Why not just say "This is between Garrett and me"? The media might not like that answer, but since there is nothing in the police blotter, it would probably just go away. Why give a false reason and risk being outed, while saying that Penn State does things the right way?

Also, why do you have "inside information" and no one else does?

Honestly, there are few things worse in message board world than posters who make these cryptic posts in an attempt to appear as some super secret insider who holds the key to all knowledge. The guy's an anonymous Internet poster who's best known for posting pictures of scantily clad women. Seems like he's desperate for us to think he's the new Deep Throat. Stop the drama and either tell us what you think you know or please, just shut up.

'ro has generally been a good poster, but I've put him on my Ignore List. I'm tired of his bullshit.

Obviously he shouldn't blow smoke (lie). If he really knows something but he can't divulge it for some reason, then he obviously shouldn't say anything. I've lost a lot of respect for 'ro over his bullshit games here. The coach tells the media that it was a missed class and, in doing so, says that they do things the right way at Penn State, but we are supposed to believe 'ro who has said nothing.

suppose CJF let them go home for the weekend, but they were suppose to be back for a team meeting, say Sunday night. And lets suppose he missed the team meeting. Now lets say he had class at 10 am on Monday morning, but didn't make it back until Lunch time (you never miss a meal). CJF wants to know why he wasn't at the team meeting, and the kid tells him he had a transportation issue and he was back at noon. CJF says ahah, that means you missed your 10 am class. so we you are suspended for the first half for missing class, that will be my story. If you want to make yourself look in a worse light, and say you missed a team meeting, okay by me, but my story is you missed class.

I am not saying this is what happened, its a possible scenario. It turns out to be a win/win for everybody, CJF looks good, academics first etc, the kid looks good, he learned his lesson etc etc.
How would CJF even know this quickly he missed class?? I don't know that there is someone going with him to every class, and I doubt his team mates would bust him. And you really think a prof would be that pro active?? I don't, especially if they were tenured.

And for the record, I've been supportive of CJF. Just because you question this or that doesn't make you not supportive. The last thing we need is another coaching change, and Ive always said that.

If, if, if...

I don't mean to offend you, but this entire thing is stupid. Franklin gave an explanation. We go with it in the absence of any other real information from a credible source.

none taken, I just have a hard time getting my head around be suspended for half a game for missing one class, especially if he is in good academic standing (and I don't know if he is or isn't). Really, why harass the kid? Even at E=MC^2 Jr college they got 4.

Why claim Coach Franklin's lying? LMFAO.

Sometimes the simplest explanation.....

Franklin has mentioned missed team meetings in the past as a reason for discipline; why would he change now? Furthermore, I believe he has someone on the staff who has the specific duty of making sure players are attending classes, or at least he did in previous years. It's something he mentioned either last year or his first. That would pretty much answer the question of how he knew. As for "this quickly", in your scenario, the class would have been Monday morning. When was the suspension made known? Saturday was the first I heard about it (although I'm sure Sickles and the team knew earlier).

This is now a 3rd mystery to add to the two ongoing ones that have cost me a lot of sleep over the past 20 years....Why didn't Kevin Thompson play in the Alamo Bowl, and why wasn't Mo Humphrey on the plane?

because CJF is a reasonable man. It doesn't seem reasonable to me that 1 missed class would cause a half game suspension. The real reason may put the player in a bad light, and he wanted to avoid this.

The "real reason".....blah, blah, blah You crack me up - now you're the self-declared arbiter of "reality"....good stuff when mixed in with all your other ramblings regarding "reasonable-ness". LMFAO!

Really? What's the "mystery" - Franklin provided a very complete explanation for the first half suspension. Here it is since you apparently missed it the other multiple times it was posted:

“Garrett’s been a model citizen for us for three years. We just had a situation where we had a bye week and some guys wanted to get home early for the long weekend. He ended up not going to a class,” Franklin said.

“I’ve been in a lot of places where you put the right guys on the field regardless, so there’s nothing better when you can reinforce that type of message and still win. That carries a lot of weight. He came out and played with his hair on fire, and then he’s the first person to grab me at the end of the game, and tells me he loves me.

“A win like this, it helps everything.”

bushwood, I can't speak for Erial_Lion, but while Franklin's statement has been posted here several times, the issue in this thread is that psuro is trying to assert, with no real information, that Franklin's statement is not accurate.

Yea, I got that - there is no actual "basis" for 'ro and sluggers claims. IOW, that's what is known as "rumor" or "gossip".....as in the "rumor mill", etc....

Agreed, but 'ro has been asserting his position, again with no real information to back it up, for a couple of days. That is not like him. If he knows something, he should just tell the whole story. Otherwise, he should have never said anything. He has lost credibility as far as I am concerned.

Maybe you only "think" he was a good poster in the past and maybe his ethics relative to his own agenda are different than what you believe. Very difficult to discern "hypocrisy" on an internet message board although it generally ultimately shows itself over time.
