It's probably early to speculate but you have to wonder about what makes sense for Christian Hackenberg after this year following what at best has been a slow start. There are a lot of factors affecting his performance from coaching changes to the quality of the offensive line play, to the weather, to relatively inexperienced receivers to player injuries but he certainly hasn't had the statistical success he and everyone else envisioned. There are a lot of reasons to love Hackenberg. He has shown remarkable class and leadership given the situations he has faced.
You have to wonder if it might make sense for him to stick around for another year. Their current players would benefit greatly from another year of experience and the infux of new talent would really be a boost. Penn State would probably be able to put the best personnel on the field that it has in years..
I know the talk is still that he would be an early NFL pick, but I'm sure his stock has dropped quite a bit. It would be good to see what he can really accomplish if he had a great line in front of him and another year of experience. If he were to stick around, we might see the best Penn State team since the 2005 crew - and he would have a great year leading into the NFL draft.
